Director’s Message
Welcome to the Spring and Summer of 2015!
Our Program Staff have been busy during the winter
planning for this year and we are certain that they
have put together a list of Programs and Events that
are sure to help make you and your family’s summer
very enjoyable.
For starters, our spring program sessions will include
swimming and fitness classes, Learn to Programs,
and Youth Activities. In the summer, please keep an
eye-out for our new programs as well as old favourites such as Orienteering and Dragon Boating. These
programs will be explained in further detail throughout the pages of this edition of the Arnprior Life.
If boating is your pleasure, please consider putting your boat in at the Marina or the Public Boat Launch and
enjoy the pleasures of the Ottawa or Madawaska Rivers.
Concerts in the Park will be back on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 pm with music that is sure to please the
ear. So bring your friends and family down to Robert Simpson Park and join us.
Don’t forget that Priorpalooza and the White Pine Festival will both be back for another year, along with a
new Event of a Dragon Boat Festival – hopefully set to take place in July. The regular Summer Programs of
Beach Volleyball, CampWanago, Hockey Schools and our Travelling Playgrounds will all be back in full swing
as well. So please read through this edition of Arnprior Life or check out our web site at www.arnprior.ca to
find out more about the regular programs and the many special events that go on here each summer.
Should you have an idea for a program that you may like to see happen, please be sure to contact the Nick
Smith Centre and one of our staff will be glad to help.
Please accept our invitation to come out and participate and have a very safe and enjoyable Summer!
Glenn Arthur
Director of Recreation Services

Mayor’s Message
On behalf of the Town of Arnprior Council and Staff, it is my pleasure
to present you with the Town of Arnprior’s 2015 Spring and Summer
Edition of Arnprior Life. With the 2014 Municipal Election now
behind us, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newly
elected and the returning Members of Council, who will be working
together for the 2014-2018 term of Council.
2014 was a busy year and I am very pleased to announce that the
Town of Arnprior has reached an agreement with the Township
of McNab/Braeside with regards to both Recreation and Library
Services. I would like to thank Mayor Peckett and the newly elected
McNab/Braeside Council and we look forward to continuing this
relationship, working together to offer the best recreation, library,
and leisure programs in the region.
Arnprior is a community that offers exceptional indoor and outdoor facilities to accommodate a wide range
of activities and year-round events. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some fantastic events
taking place in 2015: Priorpalooza (June 2015), Canada Day Celebrations (July 1, 2015), Dragon Boat Festival
(July 2015), and Sunday Concerts in the Park, just to name a few. We encourage you to join us for these
wonderful community events. Watch the Town’s website (www.arnprior.ca) for further details.
If this is your first time signing up for a Town program or workshop, I’m sure your experience will be
rewarding and enjoyable. We hope that you will be back for more in the near future. If you’re returning for
more fun, welcome back! Arnprior Life continues to be a valuable communication resource for residents to
learn about such things as the Town’s recreation programs and leisure services, important fire safety tips, as
well as important updates and reminders pertaining to Town services. The Town’s website (www.arnprior.
ca), Twitter account (@arnprior), and “Municipal Matters” section in the Arnprior Chronicle Guide also offer
a wide variety of up-to-date information for residents. These communication tools are available for all
residents and visitors alike to ensure everyone is kept up-to-date on local events and community matters.
The Town of Arnprior strives to provide affordable and unforgettable recreational activities for every
ability, taste and demographic. With programs and activities like Swimming, Yoga, Zumba, Day Camps,
and many more, we believe there is a program or activity for everyone. Don’t forget, along with the various
programs and activities that the Town has to offer, we are also privileged to have access to an abundance of
spectacular vistas, parks, waterfront, a diverse collection of local businesses, and other tourist attractions.
Being involved and active enhances quality of life, and also helps build a strong community. I hope that you
will take part in the many events and activities being offered this year!
Kindest Regards,
David Reid,
Mayor, Town of Arnprior

We are offering our “Arnprior Gets Active” passes again this year! All
students in Grades 5 and 9 will receive a free Community Access Pass
for access to the Nick Smith Centre for free public and family swimming, jr. shinny, public skating, dodgeball, after-school programs and
our “learn to…” programs! Passes will be handed out in all local schools in
September 2014 (John XXIII, St. Joseph’s, Walter Zadow, A.J. Charbonneau, McNab and Arnprior District High School). St. Joe’s High School students are also eligible for a pass, but students must
contact the Nick Smith Centre to obtain a pass.
A Family Involvement Pass will be available to families of Grade 5 students only. It will allow these families
free facility usage for the parents/guardians and the siblings of the student, thereby enabling all families
with a child in Grade 5 to participate in the activities with them. This pass is used to promote family time
and physical activity together. When using the family pass, the Grade 5 student must be present. Any
family member may use the pass to participate in public or family swimming and public skating with the
child. We urge parents to come as a family to take full advantage of the pass program.
To obtain a Family Involvement Pass, a parent or guardian must contact the Nick Smith Centre.
This program is proudly sponsored by the Arnprior Optimists.

Launched in September 2004, KidSport Renfrew
County is a charitable program helping children in
our community play sports. Sports are one of the
few activities where children have the potential to
experience positive physical, mental, emotional and
social development all in the same environment.
KidSport focuses on sport so that all children have
the opportunity to play.
We are pleased to join forces with the Canadian Tire Jump Start Program in helping kids participate in
organized sports. Both charitable programs provide funds to help offset the costs of registration fees and
equipment. KidSport Renfrew County would love to hear from groups, organizations, coaches,
teachers or parents who know someone who is experiencing barriers to participating in sport and
recreation. Or if you are aware of children who are in need of some form of financial support, please pass
along the information. Together we can make a difference in the lives of children and youth in our
community.
Applications can be picked up at the Nick Smith Centre or by calling 613-623-7301. Renfrew County
children between the ages of 3 and 18 years old can apply for up to $250 per season. The Adjudication
Committee meets throughout the year to disburse funds for each season’s activities.
Grant Eligibility:
•
•
•
•
Preference is given to athletes being introduced to sport for the first time.
Grants are for youth 18 years and under.
Grants are available to residents of Renfrew County.
Eligible activities must be introductory-level sport that has a series of ongoing lessons, taught by a
qualified coach.
• Elite Camps, private lessons, travel to playoffs/tournaments, championships, and equipment upgrades
are not eligible.
• Endorsement letters by coaches, registrars and/or directors of clubs/leagues are not acceptable.
• Funding for sporting activities in which the child/youth is already enrolled.
Grant Characteristics:
• Grants range from $50 to $250, paid directly to the sports organization or retailer.
• Grants are designed to help overcome social and economic barriers that have prevented or limited
participation in organized sport.
• Grant eligibility is one (1) per child per season. We reserve the right to limit the total number of grants
per family.
• Applicants for a registration fee grant must submit a copy of the sport club registration form that identifies the specific registration fee for the athlete.
• Equipment purchase requests are limited in value, must be a reasonable cost, and grant requests must
be accompanied by a detailed summary of the items and all costs, prepared and endorsed by the retailer.
• Grants are not meant to replace existing recreation and/or social service funding for sport participation.
Grant Processing:
• Grants are processed by the adjudication committee throughout the year.

“L.I.V.E.”: Lifeguard/Instructor Volunteer Experience
Pool Deck Assistants: This volunteer-based opportunity for youth is designed to develop skills and interest
in aquatic instruction, aquatic safety supervision and to gain first aid knowledge specific to an aquatic
setting. Participants will be paired with our qualified staff and pool supervisors to provide assistance
with instructional program delivery, lifeguarding and general pool operations. The goal of this program
is to engage youth and encourage them to pursue advanced aquatic training which could open doors to
potential future employment in the aquatic field. This program will encourage participants to develop
leadership skills, and provide opportunities to be involved in aquatic instruction and exposure to the
responsibilities and roles of a lifeguard.
Participant Prerequisites: Candidates must have completed Level 10 in the Red Cross Learn to Swim

the direction and supervision of the Instructor
• Participate and assist our staff training sessions as “victims” or as “untrained bystanders” in mock
pool situations
• Act as a ‘Shadow Guard’ at open swims, working with lifeguards to gain an understanding of the role
and function of a lifeguard as well as how to properly conduct safety supervision
• Assist with proper storage of deck equipment and provide support with the general physical
cleanliness of the pool area
• Identify the pathways of Advanced Aquatic Training and a plan of action to attain the appropriate
certifications to achieve employment as an instructor/lifeguard
• Identify with and begin to develop desirable characteristics to be an effective swimming instructor
and lifeguard
Details: There is no charge to participate in this program but registration is required. Each participant in our
L.I.V.E. Pool Deck Assistant program can choose from a number of time frames, both evenings and
weekends, to assist our instructors and lifeguards. Participants will be contacted at the beginning of the
instructional session to co-ordinate their individual schedules. This program provides an excellent
opportunity to explore the world of aquatics and could potentially lead to employment as an instructor/
lifeguard. Sign up and be one of the first members of this exciting club!

intense and rigorous aquatic workout, then this may be just the class for you! It’s perfectly suited to those

with focused and fun exercises, along with appropriate warm-up and cool-down but with less intensity — so
it’s appropriate for anyone. Come and give it a try; we know you’ll love it.

Arnprior Women’s Ball Hockey League 2015
Ball hockey is a great sport that combines aspects of ice hockey and street hockey. Teams are composed of
5 players along with 1 goalie. Players may use only use ice hockey sticks (no helmets, etc) while goalies are
expected to wear face masks, a baseball glove and goalie stick, which will be provided. Ball hockey is played
with a light orange ball and is a NON-CONTACT sport. If players wish to wear protective gear such as shin
guards or gloves, that’s acceptable, but it does not waive the non contact rule.
The Arnprior Women’s Ball Hockey league is open to players of ANY level of experience, from beginner to
intermediate to advanced. This is a noncompetitive league that is open to anyone who would like to join.
Experienced players will be put on teams with intermediate and beginner levels, and should be expected
to help mentor players to become better acquainted with the game and the skills. This is a really excellent
opportunity to participate in a fun and healthy activity and to expand a league that had such great success
in its first year!
The number of teams in this league will depend upon the number of players enrolled. A draft will be
completed, taking into account the experience level of players, so that fair and balanced teams will be
created. After the draft takes place, further details regarding team composition and scheduling will be
provided by team Captains. Each Captain will notify all players of the exact start date in April, likely midApril. Details to come regarding a year-end tournament.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) notes that with the return of the warmer weather, also comes the
return of door-to-door sales persons. While this form of marketing is not prohibited, it can be somewhat
intimidating for some homeowners and there are some important things that everyone should be aware of
if approached at your home with an offer of goods or services:
• You are not obliged to purchase anything or enter into any direct agreement. Door-to-door sales
persons will often express a sense of urgency to make you believe that their offer is time sensitive and
that a decision must be made right away. The use of pressure tactics is never acceptable and you should
not feel pressured into making a decision on the spot. If you are interested in the product or service
being offered, ask the sales person to come back another time to allow you to research the product or
obtain a second opinion. If the company you are dealing with is legitimate, they should be happy to
accommodate your request.
• In accordance with the Consumer Protection Act of Ontario, a consumer may, without any reason,
cancel certain contracts up to 10 days after receiving the written copy of the agreement. This includes
contracts worth more than $50 signed in your home. For more information on your rights as a
consumer, please go to www.ontario.ca/consumerservices or call them at 1-800-899-9768.
Always remember, no one has the right to enter your home unless you have invited them in. No one has
the right to stay in your home once you have asked them to leave. Immediately CALL the OPP at 1-888310-1122 if a door-to-door sales person insists on entering your home without your permission or will not
leave your home once asked to.
Ontario’s Ministry of Consumer Services informs and protects people so they can shop with confidence
when buying goods and services. Contact them for more information: www.ontario.ca/consumerservices

Cemeteries
Albert Street Cemetery and Malloch Road Cemetery (Usborne Street)
The Town of Arnprior strives to provide a cherished public space, created
out of devotion, pride and remembrance at its two municipal cemeteries.
We request that family members, visitors and historians please abide by
the following rules:
• Flower beds are only permitted on plots with a monument with the
beds being no wider than eight (8) inches out from the front of the
monument. The exception being the
cremation section, where no flowerbeds are allowed.
• Cut flowers may be removed at the discretion of the caretaker.
• Dogs must be kept on a leash and the dog owner is responsible for clean-up after their animals.
• The Town is not responsible for loss of or damage to any articles left upon any lot or grave.
• Please help in maintaining an unobstructed, clean, litter-free public space.
For details regarding the purchase of plots, burial or general information, please feel free to contact the Town
of Arnprior or visit the ‘Town’ section of www.arnprior.ca.
Columbaria Information
The growing acceptance of cremation as a method of disposition has generated a demand for an attractive
alternative of memorialization. To respond to this demand, the Town of Arnprior is considering installing
columbaria in both Malloch Road and Albert Street Cemeteries.
A columbarium is a freestanding, above-ground structure with recesses in
the walls (to house urns) for the perpetual care of cremated remains. These
recesses (compartments) in the walls are referred to as "niches". The Town’s
Columbaria would be faced with granite and adorned with individual inscribed
plaques, memorializing your loved one(s).

For further information please contact the Town of Arnprior at
613-623-4321 ext. 1818 or 1819.
The Town's Decoration Day is held for both cemeteries on the fourth Sunday in August (August 23rd) at the
Albert Street Cemetery. The service is at 2pm and seating is not provided so please bring your own chairs.
Flowers placed during the service will remain for one week, and then be removed by staff.

Open Air Burning
Please remember to be considerate of your neighbours and the community around you. Be diligent and
protect other properties from by-products of combustion such as nuisance smoke and sparks.
Town of Arnprior By-Law No. 3058-78 regulates open air burning and can be viewed on the Town’s
website. Applications for a permit can also be found on the website. Completed applications can be
remitted to the fire department during regular office hours (Monday to Friday between 8:30am to 4:30pm).
Although the open air burning By-Law may be interpreted to allow burning of yard waste and brush,
more environmentally friendly and free alternatives are available. Leaf and yard waste (less than 1.5 inch
in diameter) can be dropped off at the Arnprior Waste Disposal Site for free or collected bi-annually at
curbside. For other environmentally friendly ideas on what to do with your yard waste please refer to the
Town of Arnprior’s website or waste collection schedule.
Burning Complaints or Concerns:
• Immediate fire and/or life safety situations should be reported to 9-1-1 and request the
fire department. The Arnprior volunteer fire department will be paged to respond.
• Non-urgent or nuisance concerns should be reported to By-Law.
Municipal Law Enforcement Services: 613-809-7048 or [email protected]
Violations as per By-Law No. 3058-78.
1. Failure to obtain a permit.
2. Failure to confine the fire to an open pit or steel container.
3. Failure to protect the fire with a spark arrestor.
4. Failure to maintain the fire at a twenty five foot distance from any
building, fence or other combustible material.
5. Failure to have an adult (18 years of age or older) in attendance of
the fire.
6. Failure to follow the prescribed burning time (one half hour after
sunrise to one half hour before sunset).

Smoke Alarm Information & Maintenance
Most fatal fires occur at night when people are sleeping. Working smoke alarms will detect smoke and
provide early detection to alert you to the danger. It is the law for all Ontario homes to have working smoke
alarms on every storey and outside all sleeping areas. This includes single family, semi-detached and town
homes; whether owner-occupied or rented.
Recent amendments to the Ontario Building Code have placed additional requirements for smoke
and Carbon Monoxide alarms in new building construction. The level of protection required must be
maintained.
Understanding Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms
“Alarm” Signal: Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms are designed to sound a loud and steady alarm signal
(beeping) if the product it is monitoring (smoke or CO) is present. Note: Due to the sensitive nature of
smoke alarms, steam or other products of combustion such as cooking or smoking may cause a smoke
alarm to sound.
“Alert” Signal: Most Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms will sound an alert signal to advise the owner of
a maintenance issue, such as the battery needing replacement. The alert signal usually consists of a short
intermittent signal (beep). Note: Most electrically operated alarms have back-up batteries that require
periodic replacement.
Nuisance Alarm: Most smoke alarms now have a “hush” button in addition to the test button. If the alarm
was activated accidentally, the hush button can be depressed which will place the alarm in a silence mode
for approximately 7 minutes. During this time you may hear a periodic beep and it should reset after the set
time has passed and the air has cleared.
2015 Spring Hydrant Flush Valve Maintenance Program
The Public Works Department in conjunction with the Town’s Spring Hydrant Flush
program is conducting a Valve Maintenance Program. The hydrant flush will clean
the distribution system by flushing any standing red water. The valve maintenance
program is designed to clean and exercise the valves and by doing so will extend
their life as well as determine whether the valves are operable. The work is planned
for the weeks of May 4th to May 29th, 2015 and will be completed in the shortest
period of time possible. This procedure is routine but it may result in some temporary
inconveniences such as poor water pressure or “red” water. Do not be alarmed.
What you should know:
• If coloured water is detected, please open your COLD water taps to clear the
system.
• The coloured water is not hazardous to health.
• This situation is temporary and should not last any longer than two hours at most.

BBQ Safety
There’s nothing like outdoor grilling. It’s one of the most popular ways to cook food. But, a grill placed too
close to anything that can burn is a fire hazard. They can be very hot, causing burn injuries. Follow these
simple tips and you will be on the way to safe grilling.
SAFETY TIPS
• Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
• The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings
and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
• Keep children and pets at least one metre away from the grill
area.
• Keep the grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the
grills and in trays below the grill.
• Never leave a grill unattended.
• Always make sure the gas grill lid is open before lighting it.
CHARCOAL GRILLS
• There are several ways to get the charcoal ready for use. Charcoal chimney starters allow you to start the
charcoal using newspaper as a fuel.
• If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid and follow product instructions. Never add
charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire.
• Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources.
• There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an appropriate extension
cord for outdoor use.
• When finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container.
PROPANE GRILLS
• Check the gas tank hose for leaks before using it for the first time each year. Apply a light soap and
water solution to the hose and connections. A propane leak will produce bubbles. If your grill has a gas
leak (determined via smell or the soapy bubble test) and there is no flame, turn off the gas tank and grill.
If the leak stops, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again. If the leak does not stop,
call the fire department. If you detect gas while cooking, immediately get away from the grill and call
the fire department. Do not move the grill.
What to do with your empties?
These small canisters can be
placed in the steel bin at the

you keep the green key that
comes with the canister to place
back in when empty.
There are many places in town that will

POTTING SOIL FIRES
Every year the Arnprior fire department responds to fire incidents that originate in gardening beds, planters
or pots that contain potting soil.
Many potting soil mixes on the market contain as much or more organic material as inorganic material. For
example, potting soil may contain shredded wood, bark, and/or peat moss with minimal amounts of what
we call natural soil (dirt). Styrofoam pellets, perlite and vermiculite are some of the other substances that
are often added to the soil mixture, which aid in aeration and water retention. In addition, many mixtures
may also include fertilizers. Some fertilizers act as oxidizers, which may intensify a fire once ignited.
Potting soil mixtures are usually shipped moist in plastic bags from the manufacturer. Most uses for the soil
are in gardening beds, planters and pots during spring and summer planting. Inadequate watering or offseason storage of these soils can support bacterial decomposition within the mix, which can create heat.
This is the same principle that makes compost piles or bales of hay heat up.
If smoking materials are discarded into the soil of these gardening beds, planters or pots; the soil will slowly
begin to burn, eventually igniting the container, the vegetation and possibly your home. You may think you
are putting your cigarette out into “dirt”, when in fact you are creating an opportunity for a fire.
Helpful Hints
• Do not use gardening beds, planters or pots that contain potting soil as a means to dispose of smoking
materials.
• Keep a cigarette receptacle in areas where someone might be smoking around potted plants. This is a
great idea for large shopping complexes or your business.
• If you have dead plants in gardening beds, planters or pots, discard them properly by composting or
placing in leaf & yard waste. Distribute the soil from the pots in your yards or gardens.
• Keep your plants well watered and maintained.
• If you keep your potting soil in your garage or on your deck, do not leave it near any combustible
material.
Emergency Preparedness Week, May 3rd – May 9th 2015
72 hours - Is your family prepared? Visit www.getprepared.ca
Why 72 hours?
Experience has shown that it can take 72 hours or more to mobilize a significant relief effort during
an emergency. The 72 hour preparedness message is commonly used across North America by first
responders (fire, police, and paramedics), governments and relief organizations.
Canadians are encouraged to be prepared to cope on their own for at least the first 72 hours – that’s 3
days – of an emergency. This lets emergency workers focus on people in urgent need. To support their
efforts, the rest of us need to be prepared to look after ourselves.
Why prepare your family?
While governments at all levels are working hard to keep Canada safe, individuals also have an important
role to play in emergency preparedness. By being prepared to take care of yourself, you allow community
resources to be used more effectively during an emergency – and you help keep your own family safe
too. Simply put, emergency preparedness begins at home.
Start today. Prepare your emergency kit. Prepare your family – so in the case of a major emergency like a
flood or blackout – you are ready to take care of yourself and your loved ones for at least 72 hours.

Arnprior Fire Department
Seniors and people with disabilities are
most vulnerable when it comes to fire.
If you are considering a care, long-term care or retirement
home in Ontario for yourself, a relative, or a friend, here are
some important questions to ask the operators of these
facilities:
1. Has the facility had a fire safety inspection from the
local fire department?
2. Is the building well maintained? Are the doors and hallways free of obstructions?
3. Are there fire safety features in place, or scheduled to
be in place, such as:
• alternative exits
• smoke alarms
• fire extinguishers
• emergency lighting
• self-closing devices on doors
• a fire alarm system and sprinklers?
4. Is there a fire safety plan (approved by the fire department) in place and is it reviewed regularly?
5. Has staff received fire safety training?
6. Are fire drills held regularly?
7. Is the room/floor of the building suitable given your
loved one’s ability to evacuate in the event of a fire?
8. Is there enough staff available to carry out an evacuation/escape plan if there is a fire?
9. Are there guidelines for people who smoke such as a
designated outdoor area, separate room, and/or staff
supervision?
You have a right to get answers regarding the fire safety
conditions that affect your loved ones.
If you have any local concerns about fire safety, contact

Lifejackets and Personal Floatation Devices (PFD’s)
PFD’s and lifejackets can keep you afloat, protect you from cold water, and may save your life.
All regulations regarding safety equipment in boats and the approvals of lifejackets and PFDs are under
federal authority and are the same across Canada. These regulations are now administered by Transport
Canada (TC).
In Canada, design and manufacture are tested by the independent Underwriters Laboratories of Canada
(ULC) before being approved by Transport Canada, a department of the federal government. Until recently
approvals were also given by the Canadian Coast Guard. Many current lifejackets and PFD's carry this Coast
Guard approved label and are legal as long as they are in good serviceable condition and fit the person who
would be wearing them.
Note: Flotation seat cushions are no longer approved devices.
KEEP SAFE
• Check PFD’s and lifejackets regularly for discoloration, fading, and tears.
• Check the texture/quality of flotation material and zippers, buckles and straps.
• If you’re in trouble, stay calm, call for help, roll on your back, relax and wait for help.
STAY ALIVE
How do I use the “Heat Escape Lessening Position” (HELP) technique?
• The HELP technique involves holding the inner sides of the arms over the sides of the chest, and pressing the insulation foam material of the PFD to the body. Place forearms across the central chest, hold
thighs together to reduce inner-thigh heat loss, and then raise thighs forward perpendicular to the trunk
to protect the groin area from its high rate of heat loss.
How do I use the Huddle Position?
• This can be performed by two or more people huddling together. People should face one another, press
their own legs together, press their chests together (behind the insulating PFDs) and interlock arms (one
person’s arms under the others). This position allows more heat loss than the individual HELP position,
the huddle is better if the PFD, wave conditions or lack of swimming experience make it difficult to
maintain a stable individual position. Children can also be placed in the middle of a huddle.
• Using the HELP or huddle position while wearing a PFD can help you survive one third longer in cold
water.
• If a boat capsizes, stay with the boat. It will float and support you, as well as reduce heat loss.
• Your PFD will help insulate you.

Emerald Ash
Borer
What is the Emerald Ash
Borer?
Emerald Ash Borer, or EAB, is an invasive, highly
destructive beetle that feeds under the bark of
ash trees. All species of ash are susceptible to
attack, except mountain ash, which is not a true
ash species. Emerald Ash Borer was confirmed
in Arnprior in 2013.
In effect
May 1st—September 31st

Even numbered houses may only
water on even numbered days.

Odd numbered houses may only water on odd numbered days
Will EAB kill my Ash Tree?
An ash tree attacked by EAB is expected to die
within 1-3 years.
What Should I do with my Ash Tree?
If you have an Ash Tree on your private property,
the care and maintenance of that tree is your
responsibility. Dead and dying trees are
hazardous and must be removed as per Town By
-laws.
Contact a local arborist to see what the options
for your tree include. A safe and effective pesticide called TreeAzin™ is available to protect ash
trees; however this treatment must be started immediately.
See www.arnprior.ca/EAB for more information
All downspouts must to be
disconnected from the Town’s
sewer systems (By-law # 6227-13)
Downspouts should be directed to
discharge rainwater overland, away
from your house and onto permeable
surfaces, such as your lawn. Better
yet, install a rain barrel to collect
water for your garden!
Infiltration of rainwater onto your lawn
helps to keep your lawn green and
reduces the amount of water that must
be treatment by the Towns Water
Filtration Plant.
