State Competition Roster: Coaches are REQUIRED to submit a
Cheerleading Roster via online form by the published deadline in order
to cheer at the state competition. ASAA must check student eligibility and only eligible cheerleaders are

Violations of Rules/Roster: If any rules or roster submissions are violated the team could forfeit their
opportunity to compete or result.

and guidelines. If you have questions on what is permitted or not please contact ASAA.

Routine Competition: Competition routine is a maximum of 90 seconds of music, and 60 seconds of cheer
consisting of cheers/chants, dance, jumps, tumbling, and stunting. !
Mandatory Coaches Meeting: All Head Coaches are REQUIRED to attend the coaches meeting held before
the competition. During the coaches meeting all the policies, procedures, schedule, team pictures, music
testing, coaches questions, and more will be reviewed. !
Music: Music for all routines must be on CD AND MP3 player (iPhone/iPod etc). Please bring a backup CD at
least. We can’t guarantee the DJ will be able to play music off your iPod or iPhone. Coaches are required to
test their music prior to the championships beginning, adequate time will be given after the coaches meeting. !
Competition Floor: The competition will be preformed on a regulation floor measuring 42 by 54 feet. No team
can perform off the competition floor. !
Entrance/Admission: Cheerleading groups will not be given tournament passes into the facility. ONLY
VARSITY CHEERLEADERS IN UNIFORM will be allowed entrance into the facility PRIOR to the competition or
their team game. Cheerleaders MUST be accompanied by a coach and in uniform. This is the same process
used for high school bands. !
Coaches Passes: Coaches will receive passes for access into the event and the hospitality room. !
Bleachers/Spectator Area: Cheerleaders are NOT allowed to sit in the bleachers during the competition.
This area is reserved for coaches and paying spectators. !
Hair/Jewelry/Piercings: Cheerleaders must have their hair pulled back and off the shoulders, they may not
chew gum or candy while cheering, and ALL jewelry/piercings must be removed. Please see the NFHS Spirit
Rules book for details.

Basket Tosses: Basket tosses and similar multi-base tosses are permitted on rubberized track and artificial
grass, and competition floors. Twisting dismount skills are also permitted but limited to no more than 1 1/4
rotation. If you have questions on what is permitted or not please contact ASAA.

Sportsmanship: Cheer coaches and athletes must maintain high standards of sportsmanship and
demonstrate positive crowd leading skills at all times. Negative sportsmanship will be dealt with based on
ASAA Code of Conduct. !
School Signs: Schools are allowed to hang signs that are positive and directed only towards the schools
team. Signs will be removed if hung over sponsor signs or other state championship signs. When finished
please remove your signage.

Results: Results will be posted online at the conclusion of the competition on the ASAA Cheerleading
Website section (asaa.org) specifically on the “State Results” page.

Photography/Videotaping (Parents, Yearbook and School/Team Photo/Video: No flash photography.
Fans, parents, coaches, school employees, etc. are not allowed to photograph outside the spectator area.
Designated areas outside the spectator area are reserved for working members of the media and ASAA’s
official photographer. School yearbook staff please contact Fitzgerald Photography to secure photos for use
in your yearbooks which he is willing to provide for free. If present in non-spectator areas, they will be
removed. Only ASAA Credentialed Media are allowed to be outside the spectator area. !

Supervision: Each participating school will be requested to identify an administrative representative who is
responsible for the conduct of its participants, students and fans throughout the contest as defined in the
ASAA bylaws. !
Concussion Information: During ASAA State Championships only licensed medical team doctors with
concussion training or the licensed medical professionals that ASAA provides will have "Return to Play"
capabilities. ASAA Concussion Policy will be in effect. View at: http://asaa.org/asaa/sports-medicine/. !
Awards: Awards are presented at the end of the championship competition. • 1st and 2nd Place Team Trophies for the 5 divisions. Note: A second place trophy will only be awarded
with 4 or more teams competing in a division. 3 or less, only first place award given. • Grand Champion • Academic Award (Must have at least 5 athletes to qualify)

Participation Fee: The Board of Directors has authorized the assessment of a participation fee for all state
championships and festivals. The fee for athletic teams will be $10 per student participant with a maximum
fee of $150 for those teams of 15 or more participants. This applies to Football, Volleyball, Hockey,
Basketball, Soccer, Softball, and Baseball. The fee for individual (non-team) athletic events will be $10 per
student participant with no maximum. This applies to Cross Country Running, Tennis, Swimming/Diving,
Wrestling, Nordic Skiing, and Track and Field. Once the deadline for withdrawals and substitutions has
passed the state meet, the roster will be considered final and schools will be invoiced that amount following
the event.

Fundraising: ASAA approved host school groups are allowed to sell items inside the school. Non-approved
groups will not be allowed access. !
Concessions: The Sullivan Arena, South Anchorage HS, and Alaska Airlines Center on the UAA Campus will
be providing concessions throughout the event. No other unauthorized food providers will be allowed. !
State Merchandise: Northwest Designs is the Official State Merchandise Vendor. NWD will have a large
variety of apparel and feature on-site printing with customized made to order commemorative items. A web
store is also available online at ASAA.org/store.
