TO THE OCCUPIER
Date: Friday 8th April
Dear Sir/ Madam
Highway Maintenance Road Treatment Works: Silverstone Road, Dadford
Transport for Buckinghamshire will be undertaking highway maintenance road treatment
works to the carriageway of Silverstone Road between the 30 limit at the south end of
Dadford Village and the southernmost Silverstone Circuit roundabout as part of the ‘We’re
Working on It’ (WWOI) programme. This work is being undertaken to improve the condition
of the road in order to prolong its life and involves surfacing works to the carriageway.
These works are being carried out at this time in order that the roadworks are completed
prior to the major events taking place at the Silverstone Circuit later in the year.
The main works here are scheduled to commence on 18th May at the Dadford Village end and are
anticipated to take approximately four weeks to complete, there are currently no works anticipated
to take place at the weekend.
Information signs will be erected on site prior to the commencement of the works, confirming the
actual dates and durations.
You will appreciate that works of this nature are extremely weather dependant and therefore may
be subject to disruption due to inclement weather. If the works are delayed, the advance
information signs on site will be updated to reflect any change in dates.
The nature of these works requires that they are carried out under a 24 hour road closure to
minimise the overall duration of the work. There will be two distinct phases:
1) 18 May to 8 June – Structural Repairs (in-situ carriageway recycling) – this will be carried out
during the day between 07:00 and 19:00. We will also be undertaking general road
improvements within this closure. During this period there will be no through access to traffic
whatsoever and the carriageway will remain closed overnight. Access to premises will be
maintained, although there will be times as the carriageway is being reconstructed, when
access to individual properties will not be possible for short periods. If you have any particular
times when access is required, please contact me to discuss.
2) 3 June to 12 June – Carriageway Surfacing – this will be carried out at night between 19:00
and 06:00. During this period there will also be no through access whatsoever, and the
carriageway will remain closed to through traffic during the daytime as well. Access to
residents and businesses will be possible during the day.
Due to the nature of these works, noisy activities may occur at times throughout the periods
specified above and we apologise in advance for this. Our contractors endeavour to ensure that
any vehicles used at night are fitted with an innovative piece of equipment that will help reduce
noise pollution. By using a broadband ‘white noise’ sound wave to indicate when a vehicle is
reversing the system reduces disturbance to residents or others in the vicinity.
This work will be undertaken under a full road closure which will be in operation 24 hours
per day, meaning there will be no through access at any time. We will endeavour to enable
residents to access their properties, however I hope you will appreciate that at some times
we may ask that you temporarily leave your vehicle elsewhere and walk to your property.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
It is vital that we ask that whilst works are being undertaken that vehicles are not parked on
the highway and/or footway, as this would obviously cause an obstruction and prevent the
necessary works from being carried out in their entirety. During the working periods quoted
above, ‘Gatemen’ will be provided at each end of the closure to assist and to advise road
users.
The signed diversion route takes road users south to the A422, west to Brackley and along
at A43 to Silverstone, and as we cannot guarantee direct access to properties at all times,
you may be advised to take this route in order to gain access from the other end of the site.
Further information about this work can be found on Transport for Buckinghamshire’s
Service Information Centre at http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/transport or alternatively you can
call 0845 230 2882 and one of my colleagues will be able to pass your enquiry through to
me.
Yours sincerely
Alex Collins
