Our President’s Piece
I hope everyone will have a wonderful Valentine ’s Day. Since it falls
on next Tuesday, the executive
board meeting has been moved to
Tues., February 21, at the Sherman
Public Library. All officers and committee members are encouraged to
come.
I am looking forward to the applique workshop Feb. 25,
at Friendship Church, with Shirley Stevenson. Also coming up is the Dallas Quilt Show, which is always exciting
and fun. Thanks for the email from Juanita saying we
have enough to make the bus trip, and about the speakers. I met Trish Steward at the Greenville Quilt Show
this fall, and she is a very interesting lady.
If you need to be on the agenda for the February meeting, please let me know by email or phone before the
meeting, so that I can get you on the list. This will help
move the meeting along at a quick pace. I’m looking forward to the games at the meeting. Don’t forget your 5
fat quarters, and a yard of batik fabric.
See you there !

Furry Friends Community Service Projects
Our next community service project supporting our furry four legged friends will begin in March. The employees of the local animal shelter are very excited to be the beneficiaries of our time and talent. The suggested
wish list items include bandannas, pet toys, bed cushions, and any other appropriate pet related item. I would
like the guild to support the Furry Friends Project through June 2012.
Upcoming Service Projects - I am in the process of researching new projects and considering revising past
projects. Do you have any community service ideas/projects you would like for the guild to consider supporting? If so, please email Cynthia at [email protected].

Batik Event
As part of our Quilter's Olympics program this month-those that
CHOOSE to participate, are to bring one yard of quilt shop quality Batik
fabric and a small pair of scissors. Following our Olympic event, there
will be a challenge presented for the assortment of Batiks that you will
take home. Given the reaction at last months meeting, this is NOT an activity for everyone, as we will be tearing fabric! ;) I understand your resistance, but please allow those that choose to participate to have fun.

Quilt Guild Cookbook
A big thanks to Cynthia Perez who took on a project
to compile recipes submitted
by the guild members. She did
a wonderful job. The cookbook is available on the Yahoo
Group (see last page of newsletter for how to log on Yahoo
Group if you’ve not logged in
previously. Cynthia also gave
out coaster to those who had submitted recipes to
the cookbook along with a prize for the early submittal.
SHOW AND TELL
OH HOW WONDERFUL
Please bring your items for Show and
Tell. This is a favorite part of our
monthly meeting.
FREE LECTURES AT THE 2012 DALLAS QUILT SHOW
This year lectures will be offered free of charge - these are different from the demos that are at the front of
the show, and are held in the rear of the show near where we will enter the building.
Lectures will run about 45 minutes, and both of these nationally known speakers will have a trunk show of
their quilts on Friday.
Friday at 11 am Cindy Erickson will be speaking about scrap quilts. She is one of the judges for the show
this year and will be giving a lecture entitled "Confessions of a Scrapper" She sounds really fun.
Then after lunch on Friday at 2 pm Trish Stuart will be sharing her floral creations as she speaks of her
"Journey of a Quilter". She is a creative delight that you will enjoy.
I know that there are a lot of quilts to see already and SO much fabric that needs a new home, but if your
feet get tired or you simply want to take advantage of hearing one of these nationally known speakers, then
make it a point in your schedule. You'll be glad that you did.
And if you happen to be going to the show on Saturday, Carol Morrissey will be speaking at 11 am on her
quilts entitled " Flowers+Photos+Fabric=Quilts"
I'm really excited about these lectures, as I got to pick them each out : Hope to see you there! (Juanita)

Quilt Makers Guild Meeting Minutes For Jan 26, 2012
Guild Secretary and Sunshine/Shadows
Contact: Tina McDonald [email protected] 903-227-7583
SHERMAN QUILT MAKERS GUILD MINUTES FOR JANUARY 26, 2012
-President, Wanda Wilson, called the meeting to order.
-The minutes were approved as published in the newsletter after a change was made. The date for the TAQG should be changed to January 28,
2012.
-Cynthia Perez talked about our community service projects. Are next project will be for the animals at the local shelter. We are planning on making bed covers for the animals to lay on. She hopes to get an example to bring to a meeting. Let Cynthia know if you have any other ideas for projects for the animals.
-Nancy Miller reported that the Treasurer report was on the front table if anyone wanted a copy.
-Sally Bogatko reported that we had 44 members signed in - with no visitors.
-Juanita Johnson commented on all the new name tags we were wearing. She talked about the bus trip in Marc to the Dallas Quilt Show. We still
have room on the bus. It’s $35 and it includes your ticket into the show. The money needs to be paid by the end of the next guild meeting. Don’t
forget that next month we are having a mug rug swap. It’s “LOVE” themed. That means it could be anything you “LOVE” or something that means
“LOVE” to you…candy, hearts, puppies….use your imagination. The average size of mug rugs are about 6x9, but anything you make will be cherished.
-Wanda pointed out the raffle quilt in the back of the room. It’s the beautiful quilt that is to be raffled off at the Dallas Quilt Show. Get your tickets
tonight!!
-Gwen Moore talked about the workshop on February 25th. Shirley will be doing a machine applique class at the Friendship Church. The cost will
be $25. April will be including a “Back to Basics” class. In June Denise Smart will be teaching another “Bargello” class. The date will be announced another time.
-Carrie Ott talked about the upcoming TAQG rally day on July 14 in Mesquite. Pam Bono will be a guest speaker on the 12th and 13th before rally
day. Carrie also talked about the guild making a rotary mat cleaner for the goody bags at the rally day. There will be more info to come.
-Wanda mentioned there being a quilt show in Jefferson January 27 thru 29. Wanda also showed a newsletter from the Trinity Valley Quilt Guild.
-Donna Park says thank you to all for the prayers and cards. She is doing well after her surgery.
-Juanita and Tammi talked about the upcoming “Quilter’s Olympics” at the February meeting. We need to bring fat quarters and strips (sets of 5) if
we want to participate. There will also be a game that will require us to bring a yard of good quality batik. We will be tearing the yard up into different sizes. Please bring scissors too.
-Tammi Daubenspeck read a quick letter from the VA thanking us for the donated quilts.
-Tammi asked about the garage sale in August or October. She mentioned the tables will be $10. Please sign up after the meeting.
-Tammi introduced Ruth Cox of Bella Fontana Spa. She talked about the services offered at the spa.
-Tammi showed part of a video called “Stretching for Quilters”. The DVD will be in the library and we can check it out just like a book. Please
make arrangements not to keep it the entire month if at all possible.
-2 name tag prizes were drawn and 3 door prizes were awarded to some very lucky attendees.
-Members participated in “Show and Tell”.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Tina McDonald, Secretary

The Yahoo Group was established 6

and maintaining databases along with
providing the e-mail list we use to share

The guild established a website in May 2010. While the Yahoo Group provides some good benefits
(e.g. mail list), the Website is more user-friendly. An individual searching for information on a quilt
guild in Sherman, Texas should be directed to our website. The website provides general information
on the public pages and allows for guild members to easily access current and past newsletters and
membership directory using password protection. The guild bylaws, library listing, and access to related links are provided on the website.
