ATTENDANCE
Attendance is mandatory. There are no refunds for missed classes. Your child may make up a missed class within the
same week it is missed only if you notify the Ballet Lubbock office and obtain permission from the Artistic Director. If your
child cannot take class, then please bring him/her to observe. If your child is sick or contagious, then it is your
responsibility to notify Ballet Lubbock immediately of any illness-related absence. Besides the skill acquisition that
develops from class to class, attendance impacts the entire group’s preparedness for performances. As with tuition
payment, consistent attendance has a direct impact on whether a student is allowed to perform.
Class Attendance Policy
1. The prevention of injury is a priority at Ballet Lubbock. Therefore, students arriving 15 or more minutes late will
be asked to observe class and not participate. This is a preventative step against developing physical injury. If
your student is arriving late, then please instruct him/her to apologize quietly to the instructor before observing
class.
2. If your child has an injury precluding physical activity, then you must notify Ballet Lubbock immediately in writing
and in some cases, provide a doctor’s note to the office.
3. Students are permitted three (3) excused class absences. Excused absences are illness, family emergency, and
any graded school activity. Parents of students who miss more than three (3) classes will be contacted by the
director/teacher. More than three (3) unexcused class absences will be grounds for removal from a
production or performance, at the discretion of the Artistic Director.
Attendance Policy for Performance Rehearsals and Production
To insure the quality of the performance and the preparedness of the dancers, students are not allowed to miss more than
one Nutcracker or Spring Performance rehearsal. Two or more absences of these mandatory rehearsals are grounds for
removal from the production. The decision will be left solely to the discretion of the Artistic Director. Any request for
absence of a production rehearsal MUST be presented in writing and have prior approval of the Artistic Director, Yvonne
Racz Key. Students are expected to perform at all of their assigned performances.
CLASS INFORMATION
Class Observation
Classes are closed. You may observe your student during the last class of each month when the blinds are open.
Students must be able to focus completely on their teacher’s instruction.
Class Cancellations, School Performance
After a period of two (2) weeks into either the fall or spring semesters, any class with enrollment of four (4) or fewer
students can be canceled. If for any reason, a class enrolling four (4) or fewer students is not canceled altogether, then it
is at the full discretion of the Artistic Director whether that class will participate in performances, including the School
Performance.
Schedule
Ballet Lubbock’s 2015-16 School Calendar is attached and can also be found on the Ballet Lubbock website. Ballet
Lubbock has the discretion to cancel classes due to inclement weather. In such rare instances, the Ballet Lubbock staff
will make every best effort to notify you at the contact information you provide. E-mail is the primary form of
communication.
Class Behavior Policy
Students are expected to respect their instructors and peers, and behave appropriately in class. Parent/guardian
communication will be prioritized as behavior issues are addressed, and may extend to written notices. In extenuating
circumstances where behavior issues still do not improve, your student may be dismissed from class for the duration of
the semester or school year.

Progress reports are sent out once per semester (twice per school year). The Fall progress reports are sent out in
December, and the Spring progress reports are sent the week before Spring break.
Note on Advancing Levels
It is not uncommon for students to remain in their ballet level for more than one year in order to advance successfully to
the next level. Students may be advanced according to progress and ability at the discretion of the Artistic Director.
