Dress Code In keeping with classical ballet tradition, The School of the Sacramento Ballet has implemented a full dress code by Level. Summerbella Leotards is the official supplier for the Sacramento Ballet. The Signature Line camisole style leotard will be used in the Annual School Demonstration. Every Intro to Ballet and Level 1-7 student will be required to have a Signature Line camisole style leotard in their level color from Summerbella in order to participate in the Demonstration. Leotard Colors Children’s Division: Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Beginning Ballet I, II & III • Pink Leotard Student Division Intro to Ballet: • Black Leotard Level 1: • Burgundy Leotard (free dress day is the first class of the month) Level 2: • Hunter Green Leotard (free dress day is the first class of the month) Level 3: • Plum Leotard (free dress day is the first class of the month) Level 4: • Dark Blue Leotard (free dress day is the first class of the month) Level 5: • Black Leotard (free dress day is every Saturday) Level 6/7: • Black or White Leotard (free dress day is every Saturday) General Dress Code Guidelines Girls: Leotards: Tights: Ballet Shoes: Each level has a specific leotard color. Leotards can be camisole, cap sleeves or 3/4 sleeves. Leotards may not have any crisscrossed back straps, decorations, attached skirts, shirring, contrasting trim or colors, lace or mesh, zippers or halter styles (Other leotard manufacturers may be acceptable in Level color, please see Program Administrator for approval). Every Intro thru Level 7 student will be required to have a Signature Line camisole style leotard in their level color from Summerbella in order to participate in the Annual Student Demonstration. Pink full footed tights (convertible tights are acceptable) No under garments (including underwear) Pink ballet shoes with sewn elastic Drawstrings must be tucked in (leather shoes are preferred to strengthen feet) (No “slipper” style ballet shoes) Hair: Hair should be pulled away from the face and neck in a high or low bun. Short hair may be pinned back from the face. No swinging ponytails. Moderate hair decorations such as small bows or flowers may be worn. Proper hair is an important part of ballet etiquette. Pointe Shoes: All shoes must have sewn ribbons, and strings or torn material hanging off the tips must be removed Jewelry: No jewelry except for post earrings Waist belts: Black/white or level color may be worn in Level 1-7 Warm Up Clothes: No warm up clothes or skirts may be worn in class Ballet Skirts: Ballet skirts may be worn in rehearsal or repertoire class for Level 4-7 Children’s Division Boys Pants/Tights: Black full or capri length tights or black cycling/athletic shorts, no boxers (Boys 13 and over must wear a dance belt) Shirt: Plain white t-shirt Shoes: Black ballet shoes with sewn elastics (leather soles are preferred to strengthen feet) or black jazz shoes Socks: White socks Student Division Boys (Intro to Level 1 - 7) Pant/Tights: Shirt: Ballet Shoes: Socks: Black full or capri length tights, boys in Level Intro and 1-7 classes may not wear cycling or athletic shorts (Boys 13 and over must wear a dance belt) Plain white t-shirt (Level 4-7 must have shirts tucked in) Black ballet shoes with sewn elastics (leather shoes are preferred to strengthen feet) White socks Stretch (Levels 1-7) Fitted fitness or dance clothing (NO boxer or pajama pants, parachute shorts, sweat shirts, sweat pants or loose fitting clothing). Additional Disciplines (Tap/Lyrical/Musical Theatre) Free dress leotard, may wear fitted shorts or jazz pants. Hair may be worn in a neat ponytail with instructor permission. Additional Notes Acceptable Leotard Styles: Other leotard manufacturers may be acceptable in Level color, please see Program Administrator for approval Street Clothes Etiquette: Students must enter and exit the building with street shoes and a cover up over leotards and tights. Borrow Box: A “Borrow Box” of shoes is available but all shoes need to be returned at the end of class. (Donations to the “Borrow Box” are greatly appreciated)!
