ART HOUSE MONDAY
CINEMA SERIES
The Art House Monday Cinema Series is a weekly event highlighting the many genres
of independent film. Past showings have included documentaries, indie films, limited
releases, and local productions.
CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA
At the peak of her international career, Maria
Enders is asked to perform in a revival of the
play that made her famous twenty years ago.
But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an
alluring young girl who disarms and eventually
drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is
being asked to step into the other role, that
of the older Helena. She departs with her
assistant to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote
region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet
with a penchant for scandal is to take on the
role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the
other side of the mirror, face to face with an
ambiguously charming woman who is, in
essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.
Rated R for language and brief graphic
nudity. (2:14)
LEVIATHAN
On the outskirts of a small coastal town in the
Barents Sea, where whales sometimes come
to its bay, lives an ordinary family: Kolya
(Aleksey Serebryakov), his wife Lilya (Elena
Lyadova) and their teenage son Romka. The
family is haunted by a local corrupted mayor
(Roman Madyanov), who is trying to take
away the land, a house and a small auto repair
shop from Kolya. To save their homes Kolya
calls his old Army friend in Moscow (Vladimir
Vdovichenkov), who has now become an
authoritative attorney. Together they decide
to fight back and collect dirt on the mayor.
In Russian with English subtitles.
Rated R for language and some sexuality/
graphic nudity. (2:30)
ROAR (1981)
“Traditionally, press releases give you a single press quote to sell you on a
movie,” says Drafthouse Films CEO and founder Tim League. “Roar is so
singular, so breathtaking, I have decided instead to deliver and essay that
better contextualizes the incredible awesomeness of this film. You’’ve never
seen a movie like Roar and there will never, ever be a movie like Roar again.”
Ravening jungle beasts assemble in flocks to invade an otherwise quiet
home where they chase humans up and down stairways and from one
room to another.
Rated PG (1:52)

godmother, of course.
Rated PG for mild thematic elements. (1:55)
INSURGENT
Set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions that
each represent a different virtue, teenagers have to decide if they want to
stay in their faction or switch to another - for the rest of their lives. Tris Prior
makes a choice that surprises everyone. Then Tris and her fellow factionmembers have to live through a highly competitive initiation process to live
out the choice they have made. They must undergo extreme physical and
intense psychological tests, that transform them all. But Tris has a secret
that she is Divergent, which means she doesn’t fit into any one group. If
anyone knew, it would mean a certain death. As she discovers a growing
conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly peaceful society, this secret
might help her save the people she loves... or it might destroy her.
