SPELLING
Process:
1. Print one of the challenge sheets for each student. This is going to be
kind of like a timed math quiz in elementary school, like the photo
above.
2. Set a stopwatch and let the students start!
a. If you have a whiteboard, you can watch the clock and write
the time elapsed on the board in 10-second increments.
b. If you have an LCD projector, you can project a stopwatch
counter like this one: http://www.online-stopwatch.com/fullscreen-stopwatch/
3. Students work until they are done. When they personally finish, they
look up and write down the time when they finished.
a. If it’s easy conjugation, I can normally call max time at 5
minutes. If it’s a harder skill with short sentence conjugation, it
could take 10.
b. As the teacher, you can feel free to set a maximum time. For
example, after 5 minutes you can ask students to stop working
and put down 5 minutes as their time – they’ll add 10 seconds
for each question they weren’t able to complete. If you’re
running down to the end of the hour, that’s probably a good
idea.
4. Go over the answers and have students mark their mistakes (or trade
with a partner). I’ve included an answer key if you want to project it
quickly.
5. Have students write their total number of mistakes at the bottom and
add 10 seconds per mistake to their time.
6. Have students add up their total score.
