The Jazz Bands & Combo are going up to Vancouver Island
University on Thursday, April 30 to participate in the West
Coast jazz Festival.
ArtStarts project: More students from Ruth King and David
Cameron will be watching Ms. Frodsham’s AP students tell
stories on Tuesday in our cafeteria. This is an amazing
collaborative event with our student mentoring younger
students
Best of luck to the students in our Belmont Dance
Academy who will be travelling to UVIC to perform at the
Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival on Wednesday
afternoon and all day Thursday.
Congratulations to Ross Niemann, Riley Windrum, Elijah
Driver, and Emily Hanson. These 4 grade 12 students have
been in the PACE Musical for 13 years.
There were a total of 20 grade 12s in this year’s Spring PACE
Musical as part of a total cast of 270.
They did 9 shows from April 2nd to 11th.

We would encourage and appreciate anyone and everyone to

both institutions will be at Belmont on the following dates,
for 15 min individual appointments, to help guide students
through the course registration process.

Our last set of scholarships are now available for gr 12
students. There are 2 different sets of scholarship awards:
The Belmont Scholarship Society (BSS), encompasses a list
of approximately 20+ scholarship awards, graciously
supported by private individuals, community businesses, and
service clubs. By completing the online application form
http://belmont.sd62.bc.ca/students/gallery3/, students are
eligible for consideration of all the scholarship awards listed.
Students must follow the detailed instructions for
submission of the application to Mrs Gunn in the
counselling suite no later than 2 pm on Monday, May 4th.
Applications that are presented after this time will not be
accepted.
There are 4 further scholarship opportunities newly available.

Sooke Youth Show Choir presents the beloved
family musical adventure, The Wizard of Oz and a
silent auction fundraiser at Edward Milne
Community School Theatre. Show times are May
and/or the work required to complete the application (for
example, each award asks for 2 letters of reference – do not
leave this request to the last minute). Please note that

Discover Skills BC is running a contest titled “Show Us Your
#Skillfie” which is an Instagram contest aimed at BC high
school students. To enter students simply snap a “selfie” or a
“skillfie” of themselves doing a trade or technology, post it on
Instagram, share why it’s their favourite skill and then tag
the photo #skillfie. Each week one student will be selected
to win a $100 iTunes gift card. The contest is open to BC high
school students age 13 to 18 who are currently enrolled in a
registered BC high school. The contest runs from April 15 to
May 26, 2015.
Congratulations to Kevin De Oliveira, Belmont Grad 2011
who won Gold in the Sheet Metal Worker competition at the
Skills Canada BC Provincial Competition in Abbotsford on
Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Kevin will move onto the national
competition in Saskatoon in May 2015. Skills Canada promotes
Olympic-style competitions in trades and technology. Kevin was
featured in the Industry Training Authority webpage.

Information Session for 2015-16

Isabelle Reader Theatre - 1026 Goldstream Avenue
Program Overview:
Train to become an Educational Assistant working with
students with special needs in a school setting (K-12).
As an Educational Assistant you will assist teachers and
support teams (occupational therapists, speech and language
pathologists, physical therapists, etc.) to implement
individualized educational goals.
Program Highlights:
• Program begins September 2015
• 10 month program that offers 300+ hours of instruction
• Practicum Experience in SD#62 (4 week)
• Classes run in the evenings two nights a week and seminar
sessions on select weekends all located on the WestShore.
