Parish News Bits…
A Message from Fr. Mike
Brothers and Sisters,
We want to congratulate all of our
first Communicants who received the Lord
in Eucharist for the first time this week-end. It has been
a wonderful demonstration of faith for us and renews our
own. It also calls to mind our own challenge to “become
whom we receive.”
Sometime this week we’ll be sending out “follow up”
letters for the Catholic Stewardship Appeal. While our
commitments have gone well past our goal, they have not
reached last year’s level. There is still time to make a
pledge, and we will also leave envelopes accessible in the
Gathering Space.
As I indicated earlier, some of our youth will be invited to join me for a listening session so that I can learn
what it is that we can do to better serve you. I’m writing
this to alert parents that letters will be coming from the
parish to your sons and daughters. I’m interested in
reaching out to some of our younger parishioners whom
we don’t see regularly at our programs.
We pray this week for those who have been affected
by the violence that erupted in Baltimore and for the people of Nepal after the devastating earthquake they experienced. Violence is never a solution to the problems that
afflict us, and so we should pray that the root causes are
addressed with justice and compassion. The disaster in
Nepal reminds us of the fragile earth upon which we walk,
and that these natural events can exact a toll of their own.
Grove City, Pennsylvania
Finally, thanks to all of you who participated in the Good Shepherd Collection. The priests
of our diocese who will benefit from this will hold
you in prayer for your gratitude.
Lots of hope,
Fr. Mike
Acts 9: 26-31 Earlier in the book of Acts, we hear of Saul
(later known as Paul) persecuting Christians in Jerusalem.
When he went to Damascus to do more of the same, he experienced a dramatic conversion. It was several years before
he returned to Jerusalem, the site of his earlier persecution.
His first visit to Jerusalem as a Christian is described in today’s reading.
1 John 3: 18-24 During this Easter Season, our second Scripture reading is from the first letter of John. In today’s passage, the author is dealing with some members of the community who have defected. They seem to have believed that,
as long as you have faith in Jesus, it doesn’t matter what you
do in daily life. The author directly refutes that position.
Today’s Question: How do I seek to develop my own relationship with Christ? What practices are particularly important for me in doing this?

Dear Beloved Disciple Family,
Thank you so much for the generous donations to Chip-in.
With your help we got tons of great supplies to donate to
people in need. Grove Manor really appreciated the great
bingo prizes. We took many school supplies to a neighboring
district that struggles with poverty. And we are saving the
toiletries for another batch of welcome packs for the AWARE
program in Mercer County. If there are any community organizations or workplaces that you are involved in that would
like to do a Chip-In Drive, please call me at 724-967-2715.
God Bless, Arielle Reiser

The Totus Tuus Discipleship Movement: The May Totus Tuus
monthly youth gathering is scheduled from 6 to 9pm, May 4,
Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Road, West Middlesex. The gatherings are open to anyone in grades 7-12, at no
cost. Teens will be challenged to go deeper in their faith, realize
they are not alone in their struggles, and help each other to stay
strong. Totus Tuus is sponsored by the Diocese of Erie, but is not
affiliated with any particular parish. It is a regional monthly experience that teens can share with their friends and family regardless of the church or school they attend. Please see Mark or
visit www.onthevine.us if you have any questions.
YOUTH MINISTRY VISION MEETINGS: On Tuesday, May 19 and
Tuesday, May 26, Beloved Disciple will host vision meetings for
the Youth Ministry program. The purpose of these meetings is
to establish a common vision for youth ministry at Beloved Disciple that will be sustained by the parish as a whole for years to
come. In the end, BD Youth Ministry hopes to establish a “Youth
Ministry Team” that will meet periodically for planning youth
events, identifying needs of the young people in the parish,
praying for specific intentions from the youth, and ultimately
mentor the youth as Christian disciples. All are welcome to attend. Each meeting will take place in the Schleigh Library from
7:00—8:30pm. Please contact Mark if you have any questions. If you are unable to attend, please call Mark to share any
thoughts or ideas.
The Middle School Youth Ministry Program, Encounter, will meet
on Wednesday, May 20th at Beloved Disciple Rectory from
6:30pm – 8:00pm. All students in grades 5—8 are welcome to
come, share, and encounter Our Lord and our beloved Church.
All high school seniors, college students, and young adults are
welcome to attend a study and discussion of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, Joy of the Gospel, on Sunday evenings
throughout April and May. Our next meeting is Sunday, May 3rd
from 7:00—9:00pm (TONIGHT!) in the basement of the Rectory. A book will be provided for you upon your arrival. Let us
learn together from our Holy Father, Pope Francis!
Catholic Heart Workcamp Update: We have 36 students and
chaperones attending CHWC! They will leave Grove City on June
14th to travel to Mishawaka, IN and return to GC on June 20th.
Their fundraising efforts still continue and they accept donations
joyfully! Please keep them in your prayers. Thank You!

A Very Special Thank You
Dear Church Members,
On behalf of the Christian Assistance Network,
thank you for the very generous $7,059.25 donation. In
2014, CAN provided over 275 Grove City residents
(adults and children) with financial assistance for housing, utilities, job-related certifications, medical expenses, and other needs totaling over $70,000. CAN has
bridged the gap for many as they face house foreclosure, homelessness, utility shut-off, and unemployment.
The needs continue to be great in our community and
your gift will enable us to help many more residents this
year as CAN strives to fulfill its mission.
We greatly appreciate your donation and support
of our work in the community. We pray the at God continues to richly bless your ministry in the Grove City area.
Sincerely,
Cathy L. Chutz

A “gentle reminder”:
it is particular law in the Diocese of Erie
that we remain standing from the “Lamb of
God” until everyone has received Communion.
Then, you may kneel or be seated as you wish.
