Blocks of News, Scraps, and Threads of Information - Winter 2013
Dear Quilters,
I hope this newsletter finds you all healthy, happy, and busy
preparing for the holiday season. We have had an amazing
year at Primitive Gatherings! I am so thankful to all of you
for allowing me to do what I do... spreading the love of
quilting through teaching, lecturing, designing fabrics and
patterns, and traveling the country vending at quilt shows.
Looking ahead to 2013, we have 3 new fabric lines coming in
April, July, and Nov/December and we have added several
shows to our schedule. Check out our calendar and blogs,
maybe we will be coming to your hometown soon!
Always stitching…

that resulted from Barbara's blog in 2011. It features scrappy 8"

January 2013, this will be a block of the WEEK. Each week our local
customers will receive fabric for one block. The cost will be $4.50 a
week. Because of our new shipping process, our mailing customers will
receive 4 weeks worth in a once-per-month package. The cost will be
$18.00. A finishing kit will be offered for sale in Nov. 2013. The book
“Civil War Sampler” by Barbara Brackman will be required and is available for $29.95. This program will be a 50 week/12 month commitment.

54”x65”. This BOM will begin in April 2013 (when the fabric is
scheduled to arrive) and will be an 8 month commitment. Blocks
4 and 5 will ship together and Block 9 will include the border
fabrics, so you will be able to finish in time for the 2013 holidays! The price per month will be $17. For those who already

Heart to Hand wool quilts done in
our hand dyed wools and Japanese
fabrics, that can be displayed year

Stitcher’s Gathering: We are inviting all of our Block of the Month
participants to join us on the third Thursday of each month. Sit with
Joanne and hand stitch on your current Block of the Month or to
catch up on your previous Blocks of the Month! We do lots of demonstrations and Joanne will try to answer any quilting questions you may
have. This is a great way to make new quilt friends and there is no
charge for joining this group. A new project will be starting in the
new year for anyone who would like to participate but you don’t have
to do the new project to be a part of this group. We will be using the
book “Folk Branches” by JoAnn Mullaly. Blocks in this quilt can be
made using wool or cotton appliqué or may be embroidered. We love
show and tell so bring your special projects so we can enjoy them with you. Please join us and be a part
of this fun group.
Wool Gathering: This is a group that meets and works on the newest wool patterns offered by a variety of designers. The sign-up fee is $25 for 12 months, and this includes an automatic 20% discount on
any hand-dyed wool cut pieces or strips that you purchase as well as a discount on each monthly project. Project kits are optional, but you need to let us know on a month-to-month basis if you’re interested so we can have enough prepared.
Scrappy Sewing Night Scrappy Sewing Night, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 5:30 to 8:30
pm. Join Debbie Sievert & Lori Kabat for a fun sewing night. This group promotes scrap quilting, and
ways to reduce that fabric collection we have developed. Check out samples in the shop that illustrate
what types of things we do, as well as the shop's Facebook site for pictures of our projects. In our first
year, we have done a fabric challenge, a block exchange, and demos are a regular part of the evening. See our shop calendar for the exact dates we meet, as the date sometimes is changed to avoid conflicts during the holidays! We share ideas for new & old scrap quilting projects, using & demonstrating
the newest gadgets, notions, patterns and scrap quilt book releases. If you choose not to construct the
month's project, you can still get some serious sewing time in. Maybe you have a quilt you just haven't
been able to finish. Bring that to work on, and the rest of us will entertain
you with our show & tell. That's right, show & tell is our favorite part of
the evening. The group meets all 12 months of the year. Whether you
bring your sewing machine or your hand work, if there will be a project to
make, we will try to include it. We let you know month to month what you
will need to bring via emails or during the meeting itself. And please bring
a friend. We have room for more! Cost: $25.00 for 12 months.
Wool Gatherers Club III: This club is a 12 month commitment. You will
receive a variety of 8 different textured and mottled hand dyed wools

Heather’s Taco Pie Bake
Ingredients:
1 Pkg Crescent Rolls
1 ½ Hamburger Meat (I mix ½ ground turkey with ½ ground hamburger meat)
1 Pkg Taco Seasoning
16 oz Sour Cream (Fat Free)
½ Bag Doritoes (I use some Cool Ranch and some Regular)
Shredded Mozarella Cheese (Small Bag)
Shredded Cheddar Cheese (Small Bag)
Directions:

Spread Crescent Rolls into bottom of 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 for 10 minutes until light brown and let cool.

Brown hamburger and follow directions on Taco Seasoning Pkg.
I usually make two of these at one time so I actually make 3 pounds of meat and then split it in half.
After crust is cooled, layer on crust:
Crushed Chips, cheese, Taco Meat (It’s ok if it is a little juicy),Sour Cream (use rubber scraper and smooth it over
meat), more cheese, and crushed chips
Bake 25 to 30 Minutes, add Cheese to top and just melt for 5 more minutes. Cut and Serve
Optional – Add Salsa into layers or serve it with meat.
HINT: If you are serving more than 3 to 4 people, make two pans if you want leftovers to warm up the next day!
