Blocks of News, Scraps, and Threads of Information - Winter 2012
Winter Greetings Everyone!
The year 2012 is just around the corner and we are looking forward to starting a brand
new year! The first item I would like to talk about is our 2012 Charity event. We have
chosen to raise money this year for our local animal shelter, the Fox Valley Humane Society. Most of us Quilters are also animal lovers and you all know how Nick & I love our 1 year
old pups…. we are sure you feel the same way too. So for something different we have
chosen this as our fundraiser. Look for the details inside this newsletter.
We are excited to announce several new opportunities for you to come visit us. Check our
website to see if we are vending in a town near you! We still have a few more places we have not quite finalized
but they would include...Raleigh NC, and Chantilly VA to name a few. We are trying to get to some East Coast
locations!
Here is a little inside information. I have recently sent off my next line of fabric designs to Moda. We will be
featuring a new line at Spring Market called “Old Glory Gatherings” This was so fun to do! I can ‘t wait to see
the strike-offs and see how it turns out! Look for Seasonal Little Gatherings to hit the stores in late April early
May. This is a Fall & Christmas line with over 50 skus. You can pre-order fabrics and fabric bundles, charms and
whatever else you want to add to your fabric collections. You also can sign up for Home for the Holidays, our
newest BOM starting in June 2012 featuring this fabric line.
Stay warm!!!

Join a Club or Block of the Month....This is a sample of the blocks of the month we offer.
Some
are new and some are continuations of our ongoing offerings. Sign up soon as space can be limited.
Stitcher’s Gathering: We are inviting all of our Block of the Month participants to join us on the third Thursday
of each month with Joanne to sit and hand stitch on your current Block of the Month or catch up on one of your
previous Blocks of the Month ! This is a fun group and we do lots of demonstrating, talking… covering everything
from the latest books we’ve read to the care and feeding of our families. For a little something extra this year
some participants in the group are going to start making six inch blocks from the book “Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler”
from Elm Creek Quilts and bring them in for show and tell along with other projects they are working on. We love
show and tell! Joanne wants you to enjoy doing Blocks of the Month as much as she does. There is no charge for
participating in this group.
Wool Gathering: This is a group that meets and works on the newest wool patterns offered by a variety of designers. The sign-up fee is $25 for 12 months, and this includes an automatic 20% discount on any hand-dyed wool
cut pieces or strips that you purchase as well as a discount on each monthly project. Project kits are optional,
but you need to let us know on a month-to-month basis if you’re interested so we can have enough prepared.
Scrappy Sewing Night Come join Debbie Sievert and Lori Kabat for a fun night of sewing! Are you in a sewing
rut? I know I am. It’s time to mix it up a bit, and we are forming a new club for Primitive Gatherings that will
revolve around scrap quilting, hence the name Scrappy Sewing Night..or Scrappy Women...or WHAT should we call
ourselves? Come to our first gathering and help name this sewing group. If we choose your name, you will receive
a surprise! We are going to share ideas for a new scrap quilting project every month, exchange fabrics, (OK, we
might be working at stash elimination...but who doesn’t like more fabric?), possibly form a block exchange and offer you some sort of surprise every month. What would a sewing group be without food? If the group decides to,
we can take turns bringing in a treat each month to share with everyone. In December, we will have a potluck
Christmas party. This is a great time to share ideas and get some sewing done. Maybe you have a scrappy quilt
from the past you haven’t been able to finish. You can bring THAT and work on it every month if you like, and the
rest of us will entertain you with our show and tell….Oh yes. Please bring any scrappy show and tell you have from
the past, and all projects you will finish during this club. We will start meeting in September once a month on the
third Tuesday and every month thereafter through May 2012. We will meet from 5:30-8:00pm...maybe later?????
Near the end of the year, we will discuss (at that time) if we want to continue through the summer or take vacation and resume the club again next fall. The cost of joining the group will be $25.00. Come sign up and we will
have a list of what you will need to bring to the first meeting. We are designating September “Ugly Fabric Give-Away Month!” Bring your uglies and plan to
take from others, THEIR ugly fabric!

What Color is Light: Instructor: Sharon Olski
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced quilter, you may look at a list of fabrics needed for a project and
wonder…what is considered light…what is the difference between light, medium, dark…do I really know? …or…
Why do my quilts look “dull” or “flat” when I choose fabric? If you have questions like these, this class will
help you find your answers. We will talk about ways you can make the right choices for your next project. This
would be a great addition to any Beginning Class or simply a class to give you personal confidence in fabric selection for projects of any size.

Winter/Spring Classes from Primitive Gatherings (cont.)
Mystery Class Instructors: Deb Sievert and Lori Kabat
This year we have chosen the fabric for you already, saving you even more time! You can buy a fabric kit for one of 2
versions of this year's Mystery Quilt. You won't see exactly what the quilt looks like... but you will see the fabric choices... one version is flannel and the other is cotton. Both quilts are queen sized. This year's pattern is not the usual... It is
from a new designer, and has a new look. If you choose to pick out your own fabric, we can help you with that. Take home
the first 2 steps of cutting, and come ready to sew. Debbie & Lori will do all your pressing for you.
Class price: $40.00
Tuesday, March 27, 2012 5-9 pm

of this ‘snappy’ little number. Bag measurements are 7.5” H x 10.5 L x 3.5” W. This is not a class in wool applique, you
must know how to work with wool to take this class. Kits will be available for this class.
This class will be held at the new classroom within our warehouse at 1860 Bud Drive.
Tuesday, April 17th 9:00am - 4:00pm Class Fee: $15, plus pattern and supplies
The Big Shopper Bag Instructor: Nancy Dey
Who wouldn’t love a monogrammed bag? You can make this for yourself in a day and you will be the envy of all your quilting friends. This bag is roomy, has a lot of pockets inside and a drawstring closure on the top to keep your things safe.
We will not be doing the patchwork or strip version of this bag, you can do that when you make your next bag. If you
have already made the Bow-Tucks Bag, you will find this bag to be quite similar...only bigger.
This class will be held at the new classroom within our warehouse at 1860 Bud Drive.
