Blocks of News, Scraps, and Threads of Information - Fall 2012
Dear Quilters,
I can’t believe fall is here already! I hope all of you were able to take some
“me time” during your summer vacations and got some stitching done... We
have been very busy here at Primitive Gatherings! The shop facelift is finally
complete, and is packed full of your favorite things! The Summer Block of the
Week was very popular once again, and we are in the process of getting the
finishing kits ready. Now it is time to get ready for the fall shows, and of
course, I am designing some great new projects for your fall decorating...
Please take a few minutes to browse our fall newsletter-we have added some
new BOMs, clubs and classes, so grab a friend or two and come in for a few hours of uninterrupted sewing time! For those of you who live far away, please look at our events below...we
have added some new shows to our schedule, maybe we will be coming closer to you?!
I am having so much fun; seeing all of you at shows, creating new designs, designing fabric,
welcoming you to my quilting home...my life is filled with quilting….
Always stitching…

Join a Club or Block of the Month....This is a sample of the blocks of the month we offer.
Some
are new and some are continuations of our ongoing offerings. Sign up soon as space can be limited.
Stitcher’s Gathering: We are inviting all of our Block of the Month participants to join us on the third Thursday
of each month with Joanne to sit and hand stitch on your current Block of the Month or catch up on one of your
previous Blocks of the Month ! This is a fun group and we do lots of demonstrating, talking… covering everything
from the latest books we’ve read to the care and feeding of our families. We love show and tell! Joanne wants
you to enjoy doing Blocks of the Month as much as she does. There is no charge for participating in this group.
Wool Gathering: This is a group that meets and works on the newest wool patterns offered by a variety of designers. The sign-up fee is $25 for 12 months, and this includes an automatic 20% discount on any hand-dyed wool
cut pieces or strips that you purchase as well as a discount on each monthly project. Project kits are optional,
but you need to let us know on a month-to-month basis if you’re interested so we can have enough prepared.
Scrappy Sewing Night Scrappy Sewing Night, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Join
Debbie Sievert & Lori Kabat for a fun sewing night. This group promotes scrap quilting, and ways to reduce
that fabric collection we have developed. Check out samples in the shop that illustrate what types of things we
do, as well as the shop's Facebook site for pictures of our projects. In our first year, we have done a fabric challenge, a block exchange, and demos are a regular part of the evening. See our shop calendar for the exact dates
we meet, as the date sometimes is changed to avoid conflicts during the holidays! We share ideas for new & old
scrap quilting projects, using & demonstrating the newest gadgets, notions, patterns and scrap quilt book releases. If you choose not to construct the month's project, you can still get some serious sewing time in. Maybe you
have a quilt you just haven't been able to finish. Bring that to work on, and the
rest of us will entertain you with our show & tell. That's right, show & tell is our
favorite part of the evening. The group meets all 12 months of the year. Whether you bring your sewing machine or your hand work, if there will be a project to
make, we will try to include it. We let you know month to month what you will
need to bring via emails or during the meeting itself. And please bring a
friend. We have room for more! Cost: $25.00 for 12 months.

Pincushion of the Month Club will be beginning in October and features
the following pincushions:
Henrietta Turtle, What A Hoot, A Little Birdie Told Me, Cotton Tail Pincushion and 2 designs from Wool Pincushion III. Make them for yourself
or to give as gifts. They all go together quickly.
This will be a 6 month commitment running through February 2013. Cost
is $19.50 per month; the pattern is included. Space is limited, sign up now
to reserve your spot for these awesome pincushions.
Henrietta Turtle: She is so sweet wearing her plaid shell and sporting a gorgeous
wool flower. Our sample is stuffed with Sweet Dreams 100% Cotton Stuffing
available at Primitive Gatherings. Make multiple shells and change them out…..or
better yet, just make several of them for all the necessary areas in your sewing
studio to keep your pins.
What A Hoot: Who wouldn’t love this cute little owl sitting on their sewing table?? The
belly on our owl doubles as a pocket for your scissors. This sample is stuffed with a combination of Sweet Dreams 100% Cotton Stuffing and play sand so it is properly weighted
down. The kit includes the wooden stars for the owl’s feet. Use buttons from your stash
to make the eyes stand out.
A Little Birdie Told Me: Another dimensional pincushion to use or decorate with. This
pincushion was stuffed with a combination of sand and Sweet Dreams 100% Cotton Stuffing. One side has a daisy stitched on and the other side has a pocket for your scissors.
Sewn onto the wooden stand and tied off with twine from your stash. The wooden stand is
actually 2 wood candle sticks from Hobby Lobby, glued together, painted and scuffed up
with sandpaper. You will need 2 small buttons from your button jars to make the eyes.
Cottontail Pincushion: So simple and so easy to make, this adorable bunny is mounted on the
same candlesticks as the birdie. But don’t limit yourself to this…..why not on an old oil can or
brass candlestick? The possibilities are endless. Embroider on one side or both and finish it
off with a wool ribbon around the neck.
Star: It doesn’t get much easier than this. Filled with play sand and finished off with
a fun button from your faithful button jar. Make one or many and give them as gifts to
all your quilting friends….they’ll love you for it.
Bird and Heart: Don’t be intimidated by the small pieces….this pincushion is so dang
cute and quick to finish. You will want to make more than one.

Coming in January:
We will be adding 2 more Blocks of the
Month...Both from one of our favorite designers– Jan Patek. The first is called “Catch a Christmas Star”
and the other is “Pine Tree Ridge”. Both quilts will have cotton backgrounds with wool appliques and have a
winter or Christmas “feel” to them….I am having a hard time deciding which I like better!
Also coming soon!
