ONGOING ADULT EDUCATION OFFERINGS:
 Wisdom on Wednesday: Join us as we study “Pirke Avot” with a modern commentary.
Bring a lunch and learn with other Congregation Beth Torah members Wednesdays at
noon in the Bride’s Room.
 Lunch with Rabbi Shapiro: The next lunch will be Thursday, April 16th from noon1:30 p.m. in the Library. Join Rabbi Shapiro for lunch and a discussion.
 Discussions on the Writings of the Torah: Join the community in discussion every
Shabbat morning from 9:00-10:15 a.m. in the Sader/Shimkin Chapel & Library.
JFS FOOD DRIVE In preparation for Passover, Congregation Beth Torah is collecting donations
of GRAPE JUICE (kosher or non-kosher) and MATZO MEAL for the JFS Food Drive. These items
will provide food for Pesach to more than 150 households in our community. Please drop off your
donations in the specially labeled collection barrels in our building through March 27th. If you

BETH TORAH’S OWN JEWISH FILM SERIES You are invited to an exploration of the
Jewish experience in America as portrayed in feature films of the past 50+ years. Join us
Saturday, April 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the Ulam for a viewing of “Goodbye Columbus” followed
by a discussion led by Rabbi Shapiro.
KVETCHING, KVELLING AND BEYOND: Charting the Future of Beth Torah
Whether or
not you attended the first two workshops, you won’t want to miss this interactive, hands-on
workshop. Sunday, March 22nd at 10:00 a.m. will be the time to see if we are who we think
we are and look at who we want to be moving forward. What are the values that we as a
congregation want to be known for as we move toward selecting our new rabbi? This is your
opportunity to have your voice heard. Lunch and babysitting will be provided. Sign up at our

JEWISH BOOK CLUB Join Rabbi Shapiro for a meeting of our Jewish Literature Discussion
group. The next discussion will take place on Monday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the home
of Phyllis Goldberg. (Call the Beth Torah office to get Phyllis’ address). The discussion will be
on the book Yoshe Kalb by I.J. Singer that is rescheduled from last month.
THE WARNING SIGNS OF ANTI-SEMITISM and What Each of Us Can Do
What are the
warning signs of anti-Semitism in the world? What do we do about it? We need solutions to
prevent anti-Semitism, not only how to deal with it after the fact. We need hope for a better
future. Join Dr. Mary Greenberg to learn how each of us can change the next chapter of history
for the better. Come learn with us on Wednesday, March 25th at 7:15 p.m. at Congregation
Beth Torah. There is no charge for this event, and the community is welcome.
STAY & PLAY BOARD GAME NIGHT Stay after services on Friday, March 27th to play
board games with our community. We will be teaching new games you may never have heard
of or bring your favorite and find others to play with. Games appropriate for ages 12 and up.

SHABBAT HAGADOL OR “THE BIG SHABBAT” Come to Beth Torah on Friday night,
March 27th as we celebrate with a full musical sound led from the Bimah by our Music Director
Emily Tummons, and many of our volunteer singers and instrumentalists. It is also our New
Member Shabbat. Come make some new friends and help welcome our new members to the
Beth Torah community. A special Nosh begins at 6:00 p.m. and our Big Shabbat worship
begins at 6:30 p.m. Stay after worship for cake and coffee and to join in our monthly Stay and
Play board game night.
SKY ZONE FOR 4TH AND 5TH GRADE Join your 4th and 5th Grade TWYG friends for a trip
to Sky Zone and the Shawnee Fire Department! We’re going on March 29th, and we’ll start
with pizza lunch at CBT. We’ll carpool to Sky Zone in Shawnee—WE NEED DRIVERS—where
we’ll jump from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Every child will need to bring a signed copy of the attached
waiver. Then at 2:00 p.m., we’ll walk the 100 yards over to the Shawnee Fire Station where
Captain Quentin Hammontree will give us a tour. We’ll end with dessert at the fire station.
Parents, pick up your child at 2:30 p.m. at Shawnee Fire Station, 6501 Quivira, Shawnee, KS.
Cost is $18 for the whole event. Please RSVP to the Beth Torah office with your payment by

FIRST NIGHT SEDER FALLS ON FRIDAY NIGHT, APRIL 3RD
We will have a very short
worship service that Erev Shabbat in the Sader/Shimkin Library Chapel starting at 5:00 p.m.
The worship service will include the Kaddish for anyone observing a yahrtzeit. We will be holding
Shabbat morning/ 1st day of Passover worship on Saturday, April 4th at 10:30 a.m. also in the
Chapel/Library. This service will be led by a combined Beth Torah/B’nai Jehudah clergy team.
YOM HASHOAH MEMORIAL SERVICE This year’s Yom HaShoah community memorial Service
will mark the 70th anniversary of the final liberation of camps and the end of world War II. Taking
place on Sunday, April 19th at 1:30 p.m. in the Louis and Shirley White Theatre located on the
Jewish Community Campus which is at 5801 W. 115th Street, OPKS 66211. Congregation Beth
Torah will be partnering in this experience along with other community synagogues, the Jewish
Community Center, the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education and the JCRB/AJC.
CBT GOLF CLASSIC Save the date, Monday, August 17th for the 12th Annual CBT Golf
Classic to be held at Brookridge Golf & Fitness. There are many ways to participate — as a
golfer, a sponsor, a donor, a volunteer. More information to follow on the CBT website or contact

SUNDAY NIGHT DINNER AT SAVEhome For 20 years, CBT volunteers have provided dinner
on Sunday Nights to SAVEhome, a supervised 8-bed home for those with HIV/AIDS. If
interested in learning more, and perhaps volunteering to take a Sunday night (even once a year is

COMMUNITY SECOND NIGHT OF PASSOVER SEDER A community second night of
Passover Seder will be offered on Saturday, April 4th at Congregation Beth Shalom (14200

 Modern Living: Maintaining Balance, Discovering Ageless Answers in Timeless Jewish Texts
 Classes meet on Fridays, 9:30-11:00 a.m., on April 17th, 24th, May 1st, May 8th.
Faculty: Marla Brockman. Tuition: $60. Includes materials.
 Why Kabbalah? With Rabbi Avi Weinstein: An introduction to “The Gates of Light.”
Class meets on Sunday, March 15th, 11:15 a.m-12:30 p.m. at BIAV, 9900 Antioch Road.
This class is free to the community.
 Jewish Denominations: Addressing the Challenges of Modernity Class meets at Village
Shalom on Thursdays, March 19th-May 28th, 1:00-2:30 p.m. Faculty: Rabbi David
Glickman. Cost: $150/student + materials for the first 15 students enrolled. Limited
scholarships available.
J SUMMER CAMP
The Jewish Community Center offers a variety of camp options for this
coming summer. Extended care is also available. Activities include swimming, sports, drama,
crafts, archery, tennis, field trips and special events. Barney Goodman Camp offers a variety of
summer camp fun. Specialty camps include Sports, Theatre, Art, Dance and Triathlon Camp.
Youth do not have to be members of the J to attend. J Camp programs infuses Jewish values, the
love of Israel and a sense of Jewish heritage in campers. J Camp is accredited by the American
