COMMUNICATION
MAY 7
GENERAL
ELECTION
SAVE QUEEN MARY’S HOSPITAL
On May 7th you can send a clear message to a government
that closed our A&E and Maternity departments. Let’s not
remain the only London Borough with no A&E. The steady
privatisation of Queen Mary’s needs to stop. Our local
hospital should serve the needs of our community. Stop
the privatisation of Queen Mary’s and reinstate our much
needed A&E and Maternity departments.
DEREK MORAN SAYS...
I live in Bexley with my partner and two
young children. I am a veterinary surgeon
and a partner at a veterinary practice in
Welling.
I initially joined the Green Party due to
environmental concerns from the vanishing
Arctic, the perils of fracking / shale gas,
global warming and rising sea levels. These
things are a legacy I do not want to leave for
my children.
Corporate lobbyists dictate our Government
policy and we do very little to tackle this
danger. Agreements like the Transatlantic
Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)
would grant corporations the power to
sue governments, lock-in the privatisation
of public services including the NHS, and
undo regulations that protect workers, the
environment and food safety and standards.
The austerity program is hurting families,
with more cuts to come. The deficit needs to
be tackled by wasting less on privatisation,
subsidising ‘private’ rail, power companies
and private medical companies, and tackling
tax avoidance by wealthy individuals and
large companies.
We need to build social houses, with
preference for tenders from small local
businesses, which will allow young families a
secure home.
I want our government to be more
accountable, to work for people and to work
for a long-term, sustainable future.
SAVE OUR GREEN SPACES
At the General Election you can send a very clear message
to Bexley Council. We do not want to lose our green spaces
and parks. From Old Manor playground, though not in our
constituency, to Old Farm Avenue, and the other 25 green
spaces at threat of being sold. Only a Green Party MP will
always oppose this and retain a space for our kids to play,
to help local wildlife and help reduce our air pollution.
REDUCE AIR POLLUTION
I will fight to reduce air pollution, which increases our
children’s risk of asthma and aggravates heart and lung
conditions in adults, not to mention the 4,000 premature
deaths caused each year in London alone. We need to
reduce the cost of public transport, clean up our buses and
taxis, encourage walking and cycling, and the use of electric
cars.
RECOVER OUR SOCIAL HOUSING
All Bexley social housing is in the hands of housing
associations. It should be brought back into council
hands. Housing Benefit should not be turned into profits.
Nationally, housing associations are predicted to make
£10 billion by 2018. Good quality social housing will allow
our young Key workers (Nurses, Teachers, Police) and those
on lower income work, to live in the area and get the start
they need.
MAKE OUR RAILWAY PUBLIC
I will fight to bring our railways together and back into
public hands, to provide a more reliable, comfortable and
affordable service. A complex system of private companies
will always lead to the chaos seen at London Bridge,
as profits are prioritised over the needs of passengers.
Southeastern saw profits rise to £12.8 million in 2014,
while receiving a government subsidy and being rated the
worst train company for passenger satisfaction.
