I am a performing arts lecturer and have been a Green Party member for 20 years. I have played an active role in many local campaigns, including opposition of an incinerator in Belvedere and a retail development on Grasmere Green. I am keen to listen to, and act on, the concerns of local people, and have recently attended meetings with Active Horizons at Belvedere Community Centre; sixth form students at Trinity School in Erith; small business owners; and parents of disabled children at Greenwich and Thamesmead Parent Voice groups. I will be speaking with Greenwich further education and university tutors shortly. I will support current local concerns including the Silvertown Tunnel and Erith Quarry proposals, plans to demolish Sainsbury’s eco-store in Bugsby’s Way and the severe traffic congestion and pollution in Erith and Thamesmead. I am involved with the campaign to oppose the selling of 27 Council-owned green spaces in Bexley as well as the campaign to oppose a proposed bridge over the Thames at Gallions Reach; the latter would make local traffic and pollution intolerable. I am very proud that that the Green Party is an international party, and feel that this is vital for it to be the voice of challenge and positive change in local, national and worldwide issues. In addition to my commitment to the Green Party, I take an active role in other organisations with overlapping aims: I am secretary of Bromley and Beckenham CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament), joint convenor of Bromley Peace Council, joint coordinator of Bromley Friends of the Earth, joint chair of Save Our Local Hospitals and Services (Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley), and a member of Amnesty, Bromley Against Fracking, Bromley Civic Society, Bromley Cuts Concern, Bromley TUC (Trades Union Council), Greenpeace, NTAG (Nuclear Trains Action Group) and TUC Pensioners Association. Working for investment in a low carbon economy, public ownership of essential services, and combating climate change are key national issues to which I am most committed. i will fight to... funding our policies • have more social and genuinely affordable housing • abolish the bedroom tax, helping to reduce the need for food banks • save the NHS and public services from further privatisation and the threat of TTIP • abolish the arms trade • replace nuclear power stations with renewable energy facilities • invest in small businesses, especially in the renewables industries • improve rail and bus transport, rather than more road-building • develop nursery, community and social care provision • turn academies and free schools into local, fully comprehensive schools • invest in apprenticeships, job creation and free university education • raise the minimum wage to £10 per hour and end zero hours contracts • encourage healthy lifestyle activities including sport, leisure and arts. The Green Party would end austerity. Instead, we would secure additional funds to allow our policies to come into fruition, including introducing a wealth tax on the top 1% wealthiest individuals, a Robin Hood tax on the banks and curbing tax evasion and avoidance.
