Each block has a large square with half-square triangle units on two sides as pictured to the right. To make the half-square triangle units, we will use the tube technique. Here are the general directions. Later instructions will tell you which fabrics to sew together. Place two fabrics right sides together and sew a ¼" seam on the top and bottom of the long sides to make a tube. Next, place the 3 ½" horizontal measurement on the top stitching line. Again cut out a triangle that opens to a square, cut off the dog ears, and press to the darker fabric. (The shaded graphic indicates the wrong side of the fabric.) Strip Tube Strip Tube Then place the 3 ½" horizontal measurement of your Strip Tube RulerTM* on the bottom stitching line and cut up one diagonal side and down the other to get a triangle that opens to a square that measures 3 ½". Trim off any dog ears and press to the darker fabric. Continue down the tube to get at least 12 squares per tube. 0 0 0 0 0 Copyright Cozy Quilt Designs® 2013. Add five units to a 6 ½" Light Left square as pictured. Make 8 Blocks measuring 9 ½" square. Dark Leaf and Green Block Sew the following into a tube: 3" Dark Leaf strip + 3" Green strip. Make 5 tubes. Complete 60 half-square triangle units. Add five units to a 6 ½" Dark Leaf square as pictured. Make 12 Blocks measuring 9 ½" square. Cream and Black Block Sew the following into a tube: 3" Cream strip + 3" Black strip. Make 2 tubes. Complete 20 half-square triangle units. Add five units to a 6 ½" Cream square as pictured. Make 4 Blocks measuring 9 ½" square. * If you don't have The Strip Tube RulerTM, you can use a square-up ruler 4" or larger. Turn it so the 0 point is on the top. Mark your ruler from the right 3 ½" 0 measurement to the left 3 ½" measurement with masking tape or 1 1 Omnigrid Glow-Line tape. 3 ½" 3 ½" Use this line as your placement guide. Complete 60 half-square triangle units. Add five units to a 6 ½" Cream square as pictured. Make 12 Blocks measuring 9 ½" square. Cream and Green Block Sew the following into a tube: 3" Cream strip + 3" Green strip. Make 5 tubes. Complete 60 half-square triangle units. Add five units to a 6 ½" Cream square as pictured. Make 12 Blocks measuring 9 ½" square. Putting It All Together Using the layout diagram on the next page, arrange your blocks as pictured. Once you have your arrangement, sew your blocks together by rows. Press the seams of the first row to the left, then the next one to the right, etc. Then sew your rows together. Cut and add your Borders as follows: From your Border 1 fabric, cut 7— 2" strips. Attach to your quilt and press seams out. Because your Border 2 fabric is directional, cut as follows: First, for the vertical borders, cut 2 — 5 ½" strip from the length of your fabric (parallel to the selvage). Then, for the horizontal borders, cut 5 ½" strips from the remaining width of fabric. You should need about 6 or 7— 5 ½" strips. Attach to your quilt and press seams out. Cut your binding fabric into 8— 2 ½" strips. Copyright Cozy Quilt Designs® 2013. All rights reserved. Page 4 Finishing Finally, Layer, Quilt, Bind, and Enjoy! Copyright © 2013 Cozy Quilt Designs®.
