Cancellations 4.1 Submitting your completed application form does not necessarily mean that you will be accepted. For example: All programmes only allow a limited number of students and the specific course may already be full. If you want to cancel your short course attendance, you must do so in writing at least seven days before the start of the course. Your course fees will be repaid to you minus a 5% administration fee. 4.2 This application is only for admission to the course. The University will not make any travel or accommodation arrangements unless this has been specifically agreed to between you and the University. If you cancel your attendance less than seven days before the start of the course, a cancellation fee of 15% will be deducted from your course fees to pay for the costs that the University has incurred in preparation for your attendance. 4.3 If you cancel your attendance less than 24 hours before the start of the course, only 10% of your course fees will be repaid to you. 4.4 The abovementioned deductions will also apply if your employer or another company or institution paid for your fees. 4.5 There may be instances where the University decides that your circumstances made it impossible for you to attend and will waive the deductions. This will be entirely the University’s decision and you may be required to provide supporting documentation. Rules of the University During your time as a student you must follow the rules and regulations of the University, which are published in Part 1 (General) of the University Calendar. You must read the University’s policy on the prevention and handling of plagiarism, which can be accessed at http://www0.sun.ac.za/research/policies-and-guidelines.html Payment 3.1 Once you are admitted, you (or your employer) must pay the course fees as set out in the course information. 3.2 The course fees must be paid in full 14 days before the start of the course, unless other arrangements have been made and have been accepted by the University. 3.3 Should payment not be made in time, the University will accept that you have decided not to register for the course and you will not be able to register. 3.4 If you require an invoice you must make the necessary arrangements with the course coordinator indicated in the course information. 3.5 If you were allowed to start the course without payment having been made in full, your assessment results and certificate will be withheld until payment has been made in full. 3.6 If the course fees will be paid by your employer or another company or institution, you must provide the University with written confirmation of this on the letterhead of the organisation, signed by the training officer or financial officer. You have no claim against the University except for the repayment of any course fees that you have already paid. 5.2 The University will not be responsible for any harm to you or your property except for claims that fall under 5.3. This means that the University will not be liable to you or your dependants even while you are: 5.2.1 on University property; 5.2.2 participating in any activity relating to your studies or training; 5.2.3 participating in any other recreational activities; 5.2.4 using any of the University’s premises, buildings, equipment or facilities; or 5.2.5 staying in or visiting at any University residence or other accommodation. 5.3 6 You will only be able to bring a claim for harm to you or your property if the harm is caused because you had access to property or equipment that was defective or unsafe, or if you were not given proper instructions. In other words, you can only bring a claim that falls within Section 61 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
