_________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Kathy Wild, Assistant Principal Laura Luter, Assistant Principal April 17, 2015 Dear Parent(s) of an 8th Grade Bayonet Point Middle School Student: In an effort to keep you informed and up-­‐to-­‐date on upcoming 8th grade activities, I have provided a list of events that will occur in the next few months. In addition, you will find some information regarding the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. Important Dates to Remember: Monday, April 27 4th Quarter Progress Reports distributed to students Friday, May 1 8th Grade field trip to Busch Gardens – Leave: 4:00 PM Return: 1:30 AM Thursday, May 7 Athletic Awards Banquet – 6:00 PM – BPMS Commons Area Wednesday, May 13 Honors Banquet – By invite only – 6:00 PM – BPMS Commons Area Thursday, May 14 Spring Concert @ River Ridge Performing Arts Center – 6:30 PM Monday, May 18 Patriots Got Talent, Talent Show – 6:30 PM -­‐ Gym Tuesday, May 19 Band Banquet – 6:30 PM – BPMS Commons Area Wednesday, May 27 Promotion Ceremony practice – 3rd Period – Gym Thursday, May 28 Promotion Ceremony practice – 2nd Period -­‐ Gym 8th Grade Dance – 6:00 PM -­‐8:00 PM @ BPMS – Commons Area Friday, May 29 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony – 8:30 AM -­‐ Gym ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Busch Gardens Field Trip: • Friday, May 1 • Students should arrive at BPMS at 4:00PM. • Students must come dressed in appropriate attire. See Dress Code below. Failure to do so may keep you from getting on the bus. Dress Code for Busch Gardens: • Students MUST wear the official class T-­‐shirt – T-­‐shirt may not have any alterations made to it, including but not limited to, rips, tears, cuts, added writing, etc. • Shorts or jeans secured at the waist or ladies may wear skirts, dresses, or capris; however, all MUST be within dress code, meaning no more than 4 inches above the knee. Administration makes the final decision on dress code. • Absolutely NO hats, NO hoodies or apparel with obscene or offensive language or graphics, including references to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or sexually explicit material. • No swim suits are permitted, even if worn under clothing. • No visible “bulky” jewelry, scarves, ribbons, bandanas, etc. are permitted. • No bags/purses are permitted; however, you may bring a camera. It is also recommended that you bring a zip-­‐loc bag for your electronics in the event you go on a water ride. 8th Grade Dance: • Thursday, May 28th at 6:00 PM. Students must be picked at 8:00 PM promptly. • Tickets must be purchased in advance for $5.00 if students have not already purchased as part of the Busch Garden package. • Limited concessions will be available for sale such as soda, water, and candy. • Dress code will be enforced. Boys: Suit or dress pants, dress shirt, tie is optional. Girls: Dresses of school appropriate length or dress pants and dress blouse that MUST have shoulder straps (spaghetti straps are okay). Shoes for all: Shoes should be in good taste and compliment the outfit. NO flip-­‐
flops or weathered tennis shoes. • Absolutely NO jeans, shorts, t-­‐shirts, flip-­‐flops, or casual/beachwear permitted. Administration has final say on dress code. Promotion Ceremony Practice: • ALL 8th grade students are expected to be at practice both days. (May 27th & May 28th) • Practice will take place during the school day at various times. • There is no formal dress code. Students may wear what they typically wear to school daily, provided it meets the dress code guidelines that have been established since the start of the year. 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony: • Friday, May 29th at 8:30 AM in the BPMS Gym. • Students are not limited as to the number of guests they can bring. • Parents & guests attending the promotion ceremony should report directly to the gym. There is no need to stop in at the front office first. • Parent & guest seating is in the bleachers. We will have some chairs available in the back of the gym to accommodate our guests in wheelchairs, scooters, etc. BEHAVIOR: The Promotion Ceremony is a momentous occasion not only for the 8th graders, but also for their parents, families, and friends. For that reason, the ceremony is to be held with dignity and courtesy to others. All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate for the occasion, including the manner in which you receive your promotion certificate. Any inappropriate behavior will result in your immediate removal from the ceremony. Miscellaneous Information: • Improper noises and distractions will not be permitted. • NO noisemakers, bullhorns, whistles, etc. will be permitted. • NO balloons are permitted in the gym during the promotion. • Cell Phone – Please turn off cell phones/music players during the promotion ceremony. • Family and friends should remain seated throughout the ceremony as a courtesy to other 8th grade families and friends. • Parking – Parking is available behind the building, near the gym. Early Release – Students who wish to leave school with their families after the Promotion Ceremony must complete an Early Release form in advance. Forms will be distributed to students the week of May 11th and will be due back by May 20th. Last Day for 8th Graders: 8th grade students who participate in the Promotion Ceremony have met all the requirements to be promoted to 9th grade on May 29, 2015. All parents/guardians should complete the Early Release form to indicate whether or not you plan to send your child to school the following week on June 1st, 2nd, and or 3rd. 8th grade students who still need to recover credits to be promoted to the 9th grade should return to school on June 1st and work through June 3rd to recover their courses.
