MR TURNER Drama
8pm Friday 3rd April 2015
Mike Leigh’s biography of the British artist J.W.W.Turner, played by Timothy Spall and the usual
Leigh repertory of fine character actors. This is one of the most anticipated British films of the
year, receiving five star reviews on its release. “Deliberately fragmentary and sketchy, it's not the
sort of tidy biopic that Hollywood churns out in batches, but that somehow makes it even truer to the spirit
of the Romantic period when it takes place. Timothy Spall delivers a majestic performance, arguably his
best in a rich career, capturing both Turner's quicksilver intelligence and energy but also his coarse manners - a lot of
his dialogue consists of expressive grunts and growls, like a pig suffering a bad bout of dyspepsia.” Radio Times
PADDINGTON Fantasy adventure
5pm Saturday and Sunday 11th & 12th April 2015
The cast list reads like a whose who of British celebrity: Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie
Walters, Matt Lucas, Michael Gambon, Imelda Staunton, Peter Capaldi, Jim Broadbent – and
Nicole Kidman in a Cruella de Ville role.
From the beloved novels by Michael Bond and producer David Heyman (HARRY POTTER),
PADDINGTON tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear (voiced by Firth) who
travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had
imagined - until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says "Please look after this
bear. Thank you," and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears
catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.
THE IMITATION GAME Drama
8pm Friday 1st May 2015
Based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing, the film portrays the nail-biting
race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain's top-secret
Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II.
Benedict Cumberbatch is already being talked of for 2015’s Best Actor Oscar for his performance.
Excellent script and a superb ensemble of actors make this irresistible viewing for Moviola audiences. Will
be a very, very big attraction.
THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING Biography
8pm Friday 5th June 2015
Eddie Redmayne won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking and Felicity
Jones deserved one too for her role. A moving, compelling film which everyone has heard about
and will want to see. Beautifully made, truly inspiring.
SELMA Biography
8pm Friday 3rd July 2015
Nominated for Oscars and Golden Globes and winner of many minor Awards, this is the story of
Martin Luther King’s campaign for black voting rights in Alabama in 1965. David Oweloyo delivers
a triumphant performance, “ a powerhouse that carries this film with a startlingly accurate
representation of the reverend; one that is filled to the brim with passion and poise, while also breaking
down the larger than life illusion that surrounds the man, and bringing him down to earth as the very real
and very flawed human being he actually was. His controversial decisions are touched upon in the film, as well as his
infidelities which truly bring him to the human level.” A terrific film about a seminal moment of history.
THE SECOND BEST MARIGOLD HOTEL Comedy
8pm Friday 7th August 2015
Completely silly and with a story line that gets bogged down with sub-plots – it felt like watching
some dreadful TV soap about an Abbey- but of course all the old actors and characters from the
first film are there and it is nice to be in their company for another two hours. India looks
ravishing: Totally sanitised and with the locals showing proper deference to the Raj. The colour and music
are lovely. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, except that all the signs are there that a third film –or even a
TV mini series- must be on the way. Will pack ‘em in.
