Jim Dobbins has resigned as Little Sir. I want
to thank Jim for his service to Branch 49 and
in particular his work in arranging for excellent
speakers as well as his suggestions and ideas for improving
our branch. We wish Jim well in his future endeavors.
The Branch Executive Committee has appointed Bob
Eplett as Little Sir. Bob is very active in the Golf Committee and has negotiated with the various golf courses for
our golf tournaments. He brings enthusiasm, wit and
common sense to the operation of the Branch.
When you check in for lunch please take 2 or 3
business cards to add your contact info and give to people
you would like to invite to a meeting. There are also copies
of the 2015 Branch Roster at the entry desk, if you need
one. Please destroy any old copies instead of just throwing
them away, so that our contact info is protected.
April 24-26 is the Golf Expo at Haggin Oaks Golf
Course. Our Branch will have a booth again this year,
sharing it with Branch 93. We will be reaching out to
senior men to join Sirs. If you would like to volunteer for
a two-hour time in the booth, let Bob Eplett or Nick
Poronowicz know.
Enjoy the spring weather, but hope for rain, and bring
a guest to lunch!

Our guest speaker is Dr. Julia Tanner, AuD,
(Doctor of Audiology). Her topic is: The
Truth about Selective Hearing. She will help
us gain an understanding and appreciation of the differences in hearing between men and women. Strategies will
be shared that will result in better hearing. Moreover, she
will discuss how simple exercises will improve one’s listening skills. You may wish to come prepared to ask her questions regarding hearing vs. listening, etc.

Branch #49 BOCCE BALL
WWll vets meet on the third Wednesday of each month
at 10 AM for breakfast, or just coffee if you prefer. The
meeting is at the IHOP restaurant on Iron Point Road,
just West of E. Bidwell. It is in a shopping center, and is
located next to Sam’s Club, in front of the Residence Inn.
All WWll vets are welcome to join us.
BOWLING REPORT

As of March 4th, the SIRs 49ers
Wednesday Bowling League reached
the 3/4 mark of the current season.
The season ends on May 6th when the
1st half winners bowl the second half winners for the
league championship during the league's annual sweepers
tournament for all league bowlers with contests and prizes
for high scratch and handicap games and series scores. We
also hold a special doubles contest for all bowlers. Prizes
are awarded at our annual banquet on May 13th.
Current scratch high games and series (as of March 1st)
for our Folsom SIR bowlers are: Clark Hime 212/544,
Chuck Craig 233/584, Wayne Philpot 246/609, Don Yarwood 258/655, Gerald Law 258/611, John McKim 242/557,
Dick Martegani 279/682, Bob Stewart 196/510, and Joe
Dopson 191/523.
The league welcomes back John McKim after a short
illness.
SIR branches also sponsor tournaments around No. California and Nevada. In April, the 13th to 16th, there is an
event in Carson City at Gold Dust West. The SIR state
tournament is May 4th-6th at the Black Oak Casino (for
SIR bowlers only). Summer events are in Paradise in June,
Yuba city, Pollock Pines, and Sonora in July and at the Reno
Bowling Stadium in August. Entry forms for these tournaments can be obtained at the SIR Inc.org site under Bowling. Any SIR bowler with a USBC average/membership can
enter these tournaments.

On Thursday we had our kickoff luncheon for the summer
season. We had a great turnout and the food was excellent.
We were all very happy to see Bill Southworth return from a
10 day stay in the hospital.
The winter season was very challenging. The weather did
not cooperate very well and some of the courses we played
were very difficult.
In the last winter tournament Dave Ewing won the A flight
(about time), Bill Mutschler won the B flight, and Ray Jerd
won the C flight.
Tom Shigemoto, Bill Mutschler, Jon Hillegeist, and Jerry
Thomas had an outstanding winter season. Lets see if they
can continue the good play in the summer.

LUNCHEON MEETINGS are held at the Folsom Community Center, 52 Natoma St. Folsom, California, on the
last Thursday of the month, except November and December. Social Hour: 11:00 a.m.; lunch and program at
noon. Executive Board meeting is on the same day at 10:00 a.m.
ATTENDANCE RULES: (State Rule 100) A member of Branch 49 will be notified in writing pending termination of membership if he does not attend at least 6 luncheons during a calendar year, January—December. The
Ladies Day luncheon is not required attendance. Therefore, it does not count as one of the six required luncheons
during the year. If you report to the calling committee that you expect to attend, but later you find you must cancel, call your telephone contact or the Telephone Committee Chairman.
