ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:
Breaking Free is a Minnesota-based non-profit and social justice/social change organization founded in
1996 by Vednita Carter. Every year, Breaking Free helps an average of 400-500 women and girls escape
systems of prostitution and sexual exploitation through advocacy, direct services, housing, and
education. Our main offices are located in St. Paul, Minnesota, with branches in Rochester and
Minneapolis. Breaking Free's doors are open to women and girls throughout Minnesota and the United
States.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Relief Staff member will be responsible for planning and organizing the residential weekend program
activities and meals. This position is a ‘call as needed’ position. It does not have a standard set schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Responsible for monitoring residents of Breaking Free’s Transitional Housing.
 Review and track daily activities in the computerized log book.
 Monitor the progress of residents to ensure that the responsibilities and duties are carried out
in compliance with all Breaking Free Inc. Rules and Regulations.
 Transport clients to and from events as needed/requested.
 Coordinate weekend activities as requested.
 Meal preparation.
 Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS:
 Comprehensive knowledge of addiction and violence against women issues. (Such as
prostitution, sexual assault, and domestic violence.)
 The ability to prepare detailed written reports in a clear and concise manner.
 The ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, Transitional Housing service
supports, and the Housing Director.
 The ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships.
 The ability/availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
 Excellent de-escalation skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant must have previous experience in residential services and/or have knowledge of violence
against women issues (such as prostitution, sexual assault, and domestic violence). Must be able to lift,
sit, stand, bend, communicate, and listen. Some shifts may be overnights, must be able to work a 48
hour shift. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and full coverage insurance.
