SWEET We’re at it again. After launching in 2014, Brisbane Powerhouse is thrilled to open expressions of interest for the second round of SWEET! REGISTRATIONS OPEN Thursday 26 March 2015 APPLICATIONS CLOSE Midnight, Friday 24 April 2015 We’re calling upon Queensland’s most inspiring, ambitious and rigorous performance artists to share their new creative ideas with us, with the view to presenting them inside the walls of Brisbane’s most iconic performance venue. SWEET is Brisbane Powerhouse’s season for new contemporary performance. Quite simply, it is an artist-‐led program focused on assisting local performance makers to create and manage their own work, supported heavily by the infrastructure and resources of a major multi-‐arts venue. SWEET is part of Brisbane Powerhouse’s legacy to Queensland; to provide a platform for the continuance of the state’s thriving independent theatre scene which, along with nurturing young and emerging artists, greatly contributes to the overall culture of the arts in Queensland. The program is a cornerstone of Brisbane Powerhouse’s creative development activities and is part of our commitment to ensuring that artistic innovation and cultural leadership continue to flow from this part of the world. WE ARE ON THE HUNT FOR: •
•
•
Independent artists with a rigorous approach to performance creation who can contribute to the local, national and international artistic conversation. Compelling, meaningful and ambitious ideas that have the ability to impact audiences. Emerging and professional companies and/or artists who have the ability to demonstrate their capacity to deliver a premiere production within the given parameters. It’s okay if your team can’t point to a long body of work: inexperienced doesn’t mean incapable, and we’ll support you on this journey. WE CAN OFFER YOUR TEAM: •
AUD$10,000 to contribute to your production budget. •
A two-‐week performance season in the Visy Theatre – free of all venue hire charges. •
Three weeks of rehearsal space – free of all venue hire charges. •
80% of net box office income – gross revenue minus Brisbane Powerhouse ticketing costs. •
Production crew and FOH staffing to support you in the venue (the 20% of box office income that comes BACK to Brisbane Powerhouse will cover all of your staffing). •
Venue partnership support for further funding applications. •
Support to develop a specialised marketing campaign with assistance from the Brisbane Powerhouse marketing team (with inclusion in and on the Brisbane Powerhouse program and website). •
Regular meetings with our Production and Programming teams to discuss the creative aspects of the project, technical specifications, budgeting, scheduling and future presentation opportunities.
