Pastor’s Corner
This month the Pastor’s Corner spotlights Child Abuse Month. Our regular
corner will return next month.
Increasing Awareness of Child Abuse
By Larry Lee
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. April has
been a time to acknowledge the importance of families and
communities working together to prevent child abuse. In 2013
an estimated 679,000 children were victims of child abuse; and
1,484 children died as a result of abuse or neglect in the United
States. The majority of child abuse cases stemmed from
situations and conditions that can be prevented when community programs and systems are engaged and supportive.
Since 2006, Broadview Missionary Baptist Church has
implemented a Child Protection Plan with the mission to
provide a safe and secure environment for the spiritual growth
and maturity of children, and to minimize the risk of exposing the church, its
employees and volunteers to unfounded accusations and allegations of abuse.

Increasing Awareness of Child Abuse
Continued from page 1
The Child Protection Committee oversees the plan which requires screening
for all employees and all members who desire to serve as volunteers in ministries and related activities involving children. Members of the Child Protection
Committee include Deacon Harvey Bond, Plan Coordinator, Sis Theresa Jackson, Plan Administrator, Sisters Vivian Miller and Karen Petties, Deacons Foster Chambers and Larry Lee.
We can each play a part in promoting the spiritual, physical, and emotional
well-being of children and families in our church and communities. A community that cares about early childhood development, parental support, and mental health, is more likely to foster nurturing families and healthy children.
During April, we encourage you to wear a blue ribbon and look for activities
in our church and our communities to increase awareness about child abuse
and discover solutions. We invite all Broadview members to renew their commitments to preventing child abuse and neglect by promoting healthy families,
protecting children and supporting our communities.
The following individuals were fellowshipped into the Broadview family during the month of April.
Please make them feel welcome;
watch over them in the spirit of
brotherly love and encourage them
to grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
