Divine Mercy Sunday is Sunday, April 12, the 2nd Sunday of Easter. There is a Novena associated with this feast, which involves the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for 9 days prior to the Feast. The Novena starts on Good Friday and the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed right after the English Stations of the Cross at 3 pm on Good Friday (April 3). We will have more information on the Divine Mercy Chaplet available on Good Friday. There are also pamphlets in the pamphlet rack in the hallway near the bathrooms and water fountain. The Charlottesville section of the Spiritual Direction Institute (SDI), established by the late Monsignor Chester Michael in 1989, will hold an informational meeting on Sunday, Apr.12, 2015, from 2-4pm at the Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville, Va. This 2-year ecumenical adult formation program covers more than 50 tools that enhance our individual spiritual journey and help us accompany others on theirs. Wolfe Street. After a busy week of moving and setting up, we opened to serve our clients in the beautiful new facility on Thursday, March 19th. It was a record day for the pantry - we served 108 families !!! On Friday, in spite of the wintry mix of bad weather, we served an additional 62 families. Many of these families were "walkers" - people who live downtown and have limited or no transportation. It was incredibly heartwarming to see how these "old" friends helped each other carry their groceries back to their homes. So many of them were not able to get access to our temporary location and they all were very grateful that we are back downtown. Catholic Charities will be sponsoring a Regional Parish Social Ministry Gathering on April 17-18 at Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville. Workshops will be available on Haiti Ministry, Hispanic Ministry, and Parish Social Ministry. Use the back parking lot accessible from Deyerle Avenue. Centering Prayer was developed by Cistercian Monks, particularly Fr. Thomas Keating and is supported by Contemplative Outreach, an interfaith network of individuals and groups practicing this prayer. Herb Ely, a member of the Church of the Incarnation Roman Catholic Community, is certified as presenter by Contemplative Outreach. Lucy Pardee, a Presenter in Training is a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The optional follow-up sessions will consist of a period of meditation, a video by Fr. Keating and a discussion period. The schedule will be set at the end of our workshop. On Saturday, April 11th, 2015 Shenandoah Valley Autism Partnership & JMU will join together to host the 8th annual 5K Run/Walk for Autism at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va. The event is being sponsored by community organizations around the Shenandoah Valley to help support the many families touched by the ever growing epidemic of autism.
