701 Broadway Paducah, KY 42001 March 2015 A Sincere Prayer Request and A Generous Gift Written on a wrinkled napkin, and left in our Sanctuary Sunday was a most beautiful and sincere prayer request. We were asked to pray for a place to live, strength to overcome a bad habit and for salvation for their significant other. While there was not agreement between subjects and verbs, and the grammar was not perfect, the request was heartwarming to read. I am yet humbled by the fact that the person who left it felt comfortable enough to share it with us. The warmth of the congregation and the ever-present Spirit of God has made them feel welcomed. This awesome and beautiful edifice of ours no longer intimidates the poor. It is a place where all of God’s children feel welcomed. Wrapped up in the crumpled and stained napkin was a very generous gift. The gift reminded me of Jesus’ words concerning those who gave in the temple on one occasion: “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-43 Wrapped in the napkin was a quarter. A generous gift from a sincere heart. O that I could be so generous. This simple, beautiful and sincere prayer request, along with the quarter, is a wonderful affirmation for me of the ministry and outreach of this congregation. With humility and thanksgiving, I took that quarter into finance office and gave it to Kathy. That quarter was added to the many gifts we all had given that Sunday and will be used to further the cause of Christ. It is my hope that you too rejoice as you see God’s hand at work in and through us. Your witness, love, and extravagant hospitality are making differences in the lives of those who come through our doors. Let us endeavor to always represent and share the love of God to the world. You Broadway are a sweet, loving, kind, and generous gift from God to our community and to the world. May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ abide with each of you today, and always. JIT IS AN INVENTORY STRATEGY COMPANIES EMPLOY TO INCREASE EFFICIENCY AND DECREASE WASTE BY RECEIVING GOODS ONLY AS THEY ARE NEEDED IN THE PRODUCTION PROCESS , THEREBY REDUCING INVENTORY COSTS . T HIS METHOD REQUIRES THAT PRODUCERS ARE ABLE TO ACCURATELY FORECAST DEMAND . God is always using JIT…and seems to be in the business of doing so without explaining his “strategy”. God has access to all inventory. He does not experience waste but rather uses everything for good. He is beyond able to accurately forecast demand. So, why do we have a hard time trusting him? Mind you, faith is not the absence of doubt (or lack of trust), but rather, moving forward in the midst of doubt. Some of you know I took a brief sabbatical last month in order to focus on our family. During this time, God once again reminded me that he is always JIT. God is the one who calls us. And, he is faithful. And, he will do it. We must look to him as our JIT supplier and trust that everything will work out for the greater good. I am thankful to be in The Family Business.
