terminology employed in the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders (5thed.). Emphasis will be placed
on global issues as opposed to detailed analysis of criteria
changes for specific diagnoses. Topics include the adoption
of a nonaxial diagnostic format, DSM-5 reorganization,

DBT Informed Art Therapy
Natashia Collins, ATR, LAC
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was developed in the
late 1980’s by psychologist Marsha Linehan. In DBT
Informed Art Therapy, Linehan’s treatment concepts and
four treatment modules are applied to art therapy
directives. The educational and relatively prescriptive DBT
concepts provide both art therapist and client with
structure and support. The art therapy process lends itself
to DBT concepts by providing clients with a physical space
to acknowledge and work through dialectical quandaries.
