Our 'New Evangelisation' meeting last Tuesday in the convent
It was, once again, very heartening to witness the response from parishioners;
there were, I think, 24 people present, including an observer from Falmouth
parish. There is an evident depth of faith amongst you that wants to communicate
itself. For practical reasons we focussed first on four of the areas that have been
highlighted in previous meetings: 1) A parish network of prayer: volunteers
(including those who can no longer attend mass) will be given a monthly update
sheet/email and invited to commit themselves to daily prayer for our
evangelisation projects as they roll out; 2) In co-operation with St John's school at
going-home time on certain days, parishioners will invite parents into the church
to light a candle and say a prayer; 3) a youth retreat at Sclerder Abbey, in
particular for the pupils of St Michael's School as the term ends; 4) an initiative to
reach out to all ordinary members of the congregation and help increase
awareness of our call to be missionary in our faith. We have still not quite decided
on the way ahead here, but it could possibly begin via a core group who meet
regularly for meals and talks/ discussions on the faith.
Other projects that we hope to work on soon would be using the internet,
advertising in the local media, social events/concerts in the church to draw people
in and some sort of alpha course.

Our Sunday prayer for the Synod on the Family
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendour of true love; we
turn to you with confidence.
Holy Family of Nazareth, make our families, also, places of communion and
cenacles of prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and little domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may our families never more experience violence,
isolation, and division: may anyone wounded or scandalised rapidly experience
consolation and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may the Synod of Bishops re-awaken in all an awareness
of the sacred character and inviolability of the family, its beauty in the project of
God.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, hear and answer our prayer. Amen.
