AT ABINGTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Monday, May 11 • 12:30-2pm Writing Workshop for Health and Healing There are many scientific studies that suggest expressive writing – when you write not just about an incident, but also your feelings about the incident – is healing, physically, mentally, and spiritually. In this workshop you’ll be lead through a variety of stimulating and inspiring writing exercises that will invite you to share your feelings and memories (although you don’t have to read your writing to the group if you don’t want to.) As well as being therapeutic, the writing is also a great deal of fun. No writing experience or expertise is necessary. Janet Falon is an award-winning writer and writing teacher, and has been teaching expressive writing for many years. She is the author of four books, one of which is about journaling. She teaches in many venues, including The University of Pennsylvania, and is a believer in the healing power of self-expression. Wednesday, May 13 • 6:30-8pm Night of Remembrance Join us for our annual Night of Remembrance during which Yolanda Brown, from Heartland Hospice, will reflect on loss and help us honor those that have passed away by sharing memories and personal moments. Wednesday, May 20 • 6:30-8pm Lecture: Walking Through the Social Security Disability Insurance Process with Attorney Rachel Stevens Rachel Stevens returns to provide an in-depth presentation on the SSDI/SSI application process, how to fill out the forms, common mistakes people make, and tips for a better application. This lecture is for anyone in the process of filing for SSDI, those that have experienced denial for SSDI and for those that may need to apply down the road. Ms. Stevens is a personal injury and Social Security attorney. Wednesday, May 27 • 10-11:30am Journaling and Beyond: Writing for Health and Happiness Janet Falon is an award-winning writer and writing teacher, and has been teaching expressive writing for many years. She teaches in many venues, including The University of Pennsylvania, and is a believer in the healing power of self-expression. There are certain types of writing, like journaling, which are known to be physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthful. We’ll do journaling exercises; even if you’ve journaled, this class offers a new way to look at it. And we’ll use some of the journaling exercises as a springboard for more public “creative” writing. No writing experience or expertise is necessary. Come to learn and have fun with words. Please call the clubhouse to check on availability for computer assistance. Fundraisers We will list upcoming fundraising events in this section. If you would like to participate or find out more information, please contact Kathy O’Mara.
