RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA- From Sacramento to San Diego, Truckee to Temecula, water
providers across California are raising awareness of the value of tap water during the first Tap
Water Day on May 7, 2015. The purpose of the event is to promote greater public awareness of
the value of tap water and to encourage consumers to make it their first choice for drinking
water.
“This day is especially important as California faces its fourth year of severe drought,” said Sue
Mosburg, program manager at Sweetwater Authority in San Diego. Mosburg is Chair of the
California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association. AWWA is one of the
largest and oldest association of water agencies and professionals in the country.
“Tap water is the No. 1 source of water in our homes and businesses, and the more we are aware
of how valuable and precious it is, the more likely we are to protect it and save it for future
generations,” Mosburg said.
To celebrate the CA-NV Section AWWA, WeTap, LADWP, Mayor Garcetti and the City of LA,
The State Water Board, Cal EPA, LA County Department of Public Health and The Los Angeles
Department of Recreation and Parks will promote the installation of hydration stations across
California and highlight the location and condition of existing local fountains in communities
across California.
There will be an unveiling of four water bottle filling stations at Balboa Sports Center, one of its
heavily-used centers for sports activities, jogging, exercises, and family activities. Water will be
promoted as a healthy alternative to sugary drinks. With the approach of summer and increased
need for hydration during warmer weather, the water filling stations or 'hydration stations' are
important City assets. The premium quality of our tap water will be highlighted throughout this
event. LADWP will have a strong presence with its Pure Clean Refreshing Tap water trailer.

The program takes place on May 7, 2015 at Balboa Sports Center, 17015 Burbank Blvd, Encino,
CA 91316. Balboa Sports Center was selected as the site for this celebration because it uses
reclaimed water and an acre of turf has been replaced by mulch. Guests should arrive at 9:15 am.
Program scheduled from 9:30 am -10:30 am.
