Main provider of health services to people in the east, outer east and Yarra Ranges areas of metropolitan Melbourne Provides services to a range of acute specialties including cardiology, oncology, haematology, intensive care, emergency medicine, neurology, obstetrics, nephrology, general medicine, paediatrics and a range of specialist medicine and surgery. In addition services are provided to sub-acute, mental health and community health services from over 50 sites. Geographical catchment covering approximately 2800 square kilometres, provides inpatient services to over 100,000 patients and ambulatory services to close to 600,000 patients/clients. Actively supports teaching, training and research in the disciplines of medicine, nursing and allied health Affiliated with a number of universities including Monash University First organisation to implement Health Smart Clinicals, a state of the art Electronic Medical Record that offers electronic prescribing with inpatient electronic prescribing in subacute areas and discharge / outpatient prescribing across the network. Eastern Health has five main facilities from which services are provided including: Angliss Hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully Box Hill Hospital in Box Hill Maroondah Hospital in Ringwood East Peter James Centre in Burwood East Wantirna Health in Wantirna Other facilities which are serviced by one of the above pharmacy departments include: Healesville & District Hospital in Healesville Yarra Ranges Health (formerly Lilydale Super Clinic) in Lilydale – delivering specialist medical services to the Yarra Ranges Eastern at Home (Hospital in the home program) Eastern Health (EH) Intern Program EH intern training program is a combined network intern program which includes: Joint weekly diadactic tutorials covering a range of topics (including OTC). To encourage participation interns will be asked to prepare some content to facilitate these sessions. Practical hands on training including rotations in the outpatient and inpatient dispensary, sterile manufacturing training, general introduction to clinical trials, procurement and imprest maintenance. Clinical rotations across EH covering: infectious diseases, renal, cardiology, psychiatry, quality use of medicine, rehabilitation and palliative care. Elective rotations include ICU and Haematology/Oncology Oral and Forensic exam preparation. The 2015 pharmacy interns will be based at Box Hill (2), Maroondah (2) or Angliss (1) hospitals. In addition, each site has a local rotation program relevant to the services at each site. Medical specialties include; emergency, intensive care, cardiology, oncology, haematology, neurology, nephrology (including dialysis), mental health, general and specialist medical and surgical wards. Box Hill Hospital Pharmacy also provides a service to the Peter James Centre which is a 120 bed rehabilitation and aged care centre located in Burwood East. The team are energetic, socially active and always ready for a challenge! Pharmacists and technicians provide a vast range of services, participating in areas including: clinical trials, drug information, Quality Use of Medicines, outpatient and inpatient dispensing (including discharges and ward dispensing), sterile and cytotoxic manufacturing, day oncology centre, and renal dialysis unit. There is a strong focus on continuing education within and outside the department. All pharmacists are actively involved in the provision of nursing, medical intern and student education. Within the department, continuing education meetings are held weekly. Box Hill Hospital is situated in amongst a hub of restaurants, banks, post offices, and a range of retail shops. The Box Hill Centro shopping centre area is only walking distance from the hospital providing a variety of cuisine. Train and tram lines are only a 7 minute walk away. A wide range of services are provided, including, acute medical, surgical, critical care, paediatric, obstetric, aged care and rehabilitation services. Angliss Hospital Pharmacy Department also provides services to Wantirna Health, which is a 60-bed rehabilitation and palliative care facility. Department Information Angliss hospital has a significant community culture, which provides for a very friendly work environment. Staff work in close liaison and co-operation with other health professionals to provide pharmaceutical care. The Pharmacy Department employs 10 pharmacists (sharing 7.3 EFT positions), 1 pharmacy intern and 6 technicians (sharing 4.1 EFT positions). Pharmacists provide a full range of clinical services (excluding oncology/haematology and clinical trials) to wards and department areas. Other services include outpatient dispensing, extemporaneous manufacturing, drug information and staff and community education. The department has an active social activities program. The Hospital is a short walk from the Upper Ferntree Gully railway station, which is located on the Lilydale/Belgrave line. A bus service is also available. The pharmacy at Wantirna Health is supported from Angliss Hospital. The department, which provides rehabilitation and palliative care services, employs 1.5EFT pharmacists and 0.5EFT pharmacy technician. The hospital supports medium to high complexity inpatient and outpatient needs across a broad range of clinical services which include emergency medicine, general and specialist surgery, general medicine and adult mental health. We also have a chemotherapy unit and critical and cardiac care unit. In addition, Maroondah Hospital provides acute inpatient care to 70 patients in their homes via the Eastern@home (hospital in the home) program. Being a reasonably small department, staff are friendly, sociable and supportive across professional streams, an attitude carried throughout all levels of the hospital’s management. Ward responsibilities and roles are rotated to provide variety and multi-skilling amongst pharmacists and technicians. In addition to general medical and surgical, areas covered include; clinical trials, aseptic manufacture, dispensary, hospital in the home, mental health, critical and cardiac care, orthopedics, geriatrics and day oncology. Interns are encouraged to participate in the pharmacy departments research and continuing education activities. Maroondah Hospital also services Yarra Ranges Health in Lilydale. Yarra Ranges Health provides a range of specialist clinical services, rehabilitation and outreach services. These include day surgical services, day oncology maternity services, anti-natal care, lactation and foetal & maternal monitoring service , audiology services, ambulatory palliative care and a specialist youth mental health service, working with the 12-25 age range. Maroondah is situated in Ringwood East – it is a 7 minute walk from the train station and shopping village, 10 minutes walk from the lake, and a 2 minute drive to Eastlands shopping centre. Escape to the Dandenongs is only a 15 minute drive away! For those without private transport, all Eastern Health hospitals are located on the Lilydale/Belgrave train line. Regular social events are organised within the department and by the hospital – shopping excursions, barbeques, golf and tennis competitions, dinners and dances.
