A b it ab o u t St Vin cen t ’s St Vincent’s Hospital St Vincent’s Hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, allied health and mental health services, including community, outreach, drug and alcohol and correctional health services. As a major teaching, research and tertiary referral centre, we are committed to providing the best possible patient care, servicing both our local and regional communities. The hospital is situated in Fitzroy on the fringe of Melbourne’s central business district, bounded by Victoria Parade, Nicholson Street, Fitzroy Street and Gertrude Street. Elective surgery 6,471 Total bed days 261,271 Operating Budget $ 622 M Caritas Christi Hospice Caritas Christi Hospice provides palliative care services across two campuses. There are 26 beds at the Kew campus, along with a day hospice and community day care centre. At the Fitzroy campus there are eight beds co-located with the acute services of St Vincent’s. Ph ar m acy Ser vices The St Vincent’s Pharmacy Service consists of over 55 team members including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff. We pride our self on a culture of working collaboratively to aspire, achieve and innovate. Pharmacy services are decentralised taking a contemporary approach to patient-centred care. We provide pharmacy services from nine pharmacy locations spread across the campus servicing medical, surgical and speciality patient treatment areas. Clinical pharmacists play a significant role as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team at St Vincent’s, which delivers care in a patient-focused manner. In addition, outpatient / ambulatory pharmacy services, aseptic manufacturing, oncology production, drug information, Quality Use of Medicines (QUM), Drug Use Evaluation (DUE), medication safety, antimicrobial stewardship, clinical trials and practice research are but some of the additional services provided by pharmacy here at St Vincent’s. We work toward providing a benchmark standard for patient care underpinned by a strong focus on evidence-based practice and medication safety. The hospital has many specialist units including; Cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, General surgery, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Microsurgery, Oncology, Haematology Psychiatry, Stroke, Renal, Respiratory medicine, Rehabilitation, Immunology, Biliary-lithotripsy, Community medicine and Neurosciences. In t er n p r o g r am St. Vincents has funding for 2016 to employ 7 intern pharmacists. The pre-registrant program at St.Vincents aims to provide a good foundation and transition to practice as a skilled clinical pharmacist. Our interns are rotated to all areas of the pharmacy department including antimicrobial stewardship, medication safety, research, outreach medication review, sterile manufacturing and clinical ward areas (wards include emergency, psychiatry, cardiology, haematology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, renal, general medicine and Intensive care), to gain a wide experience in pharmacy practice. Also included in the program are weekly tutorials and practice exams (oral and written throughout the year) to help prepare the intern for their registration exam.
