"Our land makes our climate"
International cartoons contest of Desertif-Actions 2015
Rules
Article 1 : participants
The international contest of cartoons "our land makes our climate" is the initiative of the organizers of
Desertif-Actions Forum 2015 and open to any professional or amateur artist from any country who has
published at least one drawing in the press between 2012 and 2015 . Each artist may submit only two
black and white or color drawings.
Article 2: Theme
The theme of the international cartoons contest is "our land makes our climate". It aims at
illustrating the role and contribution of land and soil in the functioning of the global ecosystem,
climate regulation, food safety, biodiversity and preservation of life ; and more generally in sustaining
lifestyles and wellbeing of human population.
Land has poorly been considered at the beginning of the climate change negotiations whereas it is
part of the solution via its unique carbon storage capacity. A new focus on soils is emerging as land is
coveted trough large scale grabbing, and that the water contained in the soils is exposed to
unsustainable use and exploitation; in addition inappropriate farming and urban practices are limiting
the potential for the land to contribute to life and biodiversity while generating local and large scale
ecological instability and social insecurity. While known solutions do exist.
Article 3: Drawing
Drawings must be sent by email to the following email address:
[email protected] (with "CONTEST" in email subject) before midnight April 30, 2015, in .jpg
300dpi electronic format. The drawing will be accompanied by the name, address, phone number,
email address and up to three lines of the author's biography.
Article 4: Prize
Two prizes will be awarded:
• First prize: 1500 euros on behalf of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
• Second prize: 500 euros on behalf of the organizers of D'a15
The first prize winner will be invited to Montpellier, France, to take part in the Desertif'actions 2015

event from the 10 to the 13 of June 2015 where he/she will
be awarded the prize.
All participants will receive a participation certificate and
catalog of the drawings.

Article 5: Jury
The jury will be chaired by a celebrity from the world of arts and entertainment, and composed of 7
people with different skills on the theme of the competition, and in the field of press illustration and
some organizers of D'a15.
Article 6: Rights
As this event is of public interest, participants accept not to claim copyrights or publication rights in
the framework of Desertif'actions 2015 and its follow-up and authorize the above designated
organizers to use drawings free of charge with the author citation.
Article 7: Exhibition
The 30 best drawings selected by the jury will be printed on semi-rigid support and publicly exposed

during Desertif-Actions from 10 to 13 of June 2015 and will then eventually be used for educational
and awareness purposes.
These drawings will also be posted on the websites of Desertif'actions 2015 organizers and partners
Article 8: Results
The contest results will be announced by the Jury to participants and the public on May the 11th, 2015.
Article 9: Organizers
The contest organizers are the initiators of the Desertif'actions 2015 forum hosted by the NGO CARI
located in 34380 Viols le Fort – France - with the support of the United Nations Convention to Combat
Desertification and in partnership with the Federation of Press drawers Organization (FECO).
