Carter Burden/Leonard Covello Events in March
In March we celebrated Black
History Month with a very special
event on March 27th. Dr. Marcella
Maxwell (below in red) introduced
the program and later did a special
presentation. NAACP President
Hazel Dukes (right) was the guest
speaker.
Music was provided by the Terry
Maxwell Quartet featuring music
from African American culture and
a special gospel solo.
African American poems were recited by Deborah Lasassier.
The Greater New York Chapter of the Links, Inc., Health and Human Service Community Partnership held their Black History Month celebration at
the Carter Burden Center for Aging, Leonard Covello Center in East Harlem.
From Singing to Drawing the Seniors enjoyed the Celebration. The band
Played jazz while the seniors sang along to classic songs.
Gifted children,

Puente School on

Looking Back at Events in March at Covello
Covello celebrated St. Patrick’s Day
with a traditional Irish meal of
corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda
bread and boiled potatoes. A red
velvet cupcake was for dessert.
What a treat!
Kathy Bruce, right, with her students
in the Sculptural Bamboo class. They are
doing a collaborative bamboo sculpture
that is hanging on the 3rd floor outside
the Artist in Residence room. Kathy will be here through Friday, April 3rd and
will be back on April 8th & 15th for the Pinata workshop on the first floor.
Please sign up with Sonia in the main office.
Covello held a cooking class (below
right) on Saturday, March 14th led by
SMART (Sisterhood Mobilized for
AIDS/HIV Research & Treatment)
Seniors learned the importance of
eating healthy and cooking using
healthy ingredients. The group
cooked a delicious Brazilian fish stew
with ginger tea. Bon Appetite!
