Monday to Thursday 12:30pm-9:00pm & Saturday 8:30am-5:00pm
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Clinic Administrator, the Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor and the
Director of Nursing, the Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor organizes the provision of
Clinical Patient Care Services, in accordance with Federal, State, Agency, and various
programmatic and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor is
an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team providing services to clients receiving care
in NEVHC facilities. The Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor is responsible for direct
observation and interpretation of data to formulate a nursing diagnosis through observation of the
client’s physical condition and behavior and through interpretation of information obtained from
the client and others, including the health care team.

2. One year clinical experience as a Registered Nurse whose experiences must have been as
a Registered Nurse within a United States Licensing Jurisdiction. Willing to consider new
graduates who have specific ambulatory care skills either by having worked as a Medical
Assistant (MA) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at a health center.
3. Must demonstrate through written and/or oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary
to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the
principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she is able to identify and
categorize each patient’s age specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant,
adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
4. Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, in
compliance with American Health Association.
5. Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the
needs of NEVHC and its patients.
6. Must maintain or exceed competency levels as established by corporate standards for
clinical practice.
7. A working knowledge of medical issues, workflow, triage skills and insurance needs of
NEVHC patients.
8. Thorough working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and
contemporary general office practices and procedures
9. Math skills sufficient to prepare routine spreadsheets, calculate/balance invoices/expense
reports, and similar including medication dosage calculations, reading measurements on
scales, rulers, syringes.
10. Demonstrated supervisory skills sufficient to supervise from 1 to 50 employees.
11. Demonstrated managerial skills sufficient to manage from 1 to 50 employees through
other supervisors and/or managers.
12. Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), electronic health
record systems, and database systems.
13. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively
with patients and others.
14. Very effective oral and written communications skills including public speaking
experience.

16. Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).

information.
26. Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record
acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. The Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor serves as second in command in the
nursing leadership of a health center and has the skills and ability to step into the role of
lead RN when need be.
2. The Assistant Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor is responsible for direct observation and
interpretation of data to formulate a nursing diagnosis through observation of the client’s
physical condition and behavior and through interpretation of information obtained from
the client and others, including the health care team.
3. Formulates a care plan, in collaboration with the client, which ensures that direct and
indirect nursing care services provide for the clients safety, comfort, hygiene and
protection, and for disease prevention and restorative measures. Such formulation of care
plan cannot be delegated to a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
4. Formulates and directs plan of care. The Assistant RN Supervisor implements the nursing
process based on direct assessment and data collected from other members of the health
care team.

5. The Assistant RN Supervisor provides care directly or delegates to sub-ordinates based
on the legal scopes of practice of the subordinates and on the preparation and capability
needed in the tasks to be delegated and effectively supervise nursing care being given by
the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Medical Assistant (MA) per RN Standards of
Competence.
6. Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan through observation of the client’s physical
condition and behavior, signs and symptoms of illness and reactions to treatment and
through communication with the client and health team members and modifies the plan
as needed.
7. Acts as the client’s advocate, as circumstances require, by initiating action to improve
health care or to change decisions or activities which are against the interests or wishes of
the client, and by giving the client the opportunity to make informed decisions about
health care before it is provided.
8. In collaboration with the Director, Clinical Operations, the Medical Director, appropriate
Program Directors, and Clinic Administration; develops and implements clinical policies
and procedures to assure available trained personnel. Assesses staff development and
training needs and assists with in-service training for staff.
9. Participates in the NEVHC Quality Management process through the clinic’s Quality
Council.
10. Assists in developing and implementing a nursing quality improvement component to
monitor the delivery of nursing triage services in accordance with the established
standards and procedures.
11. Assures compliance with nursing procedures relating to Child Health and Disability
Prevention (CHDP), Immunization Program, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control
Program (BCCCP) Indicators (e.g.: pap follow-up, immunizations, anemia screening,
nursing hypertension protocol), and similar special programs.
12. Conducts audits and reviews to monitor compliance. Prepares or supervises the
preparation of periodic reports, statistics, and studies.
13. Maintains patient follow-up procedures, including broken appointment and abnormal lab
follow-up procedures and immunization tickler/tracking system.
14. Assists in the development of and implementation of protocols and procedures, and in the
training of staff to enable staff to perform nursing education in the nursing units and to
maintain the competency levels of all clinical staff, in accordance with corporate
standards for clinical practice.
15. Assists in the training of staff to implement patient triage and scheduling system.

16. Functions as needed as a clinical nurse for the provision of providing nursing support to
the client and family to explain treatment and how to care for the client’s health needs,
performing counseling services, as well as triage, when required.
17. Attends meetings as assigned by the Director, Clinical Operations or Clinic
Administration.
18. Performs other duties as required or as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Site
Administrator.
19. Is responsible for the supervision of the nursing staff including:
a. Assigning and reviewing work for accuracy, completeness, service standards and
compliance with program requirements
b. Providing training and guidance to less skilled/experienced staff
c. Managing performance and conducting performance reviews
d. Recommending disciplinary action as required
e. Approving absences
f. Encourages further education, participation in seminars and provides learning
opportunities within the department
20. Develops and maintains clinical and leadership skills through seminars, workshops or
other forms of training/education; complies with all mandatory training requirements.
21. Participates as a member of NEVHC’s management team; promotes the Clinic’s goals
and philosophies to staff; participates in committees; and actively cooperates with others
in support of the Clinic’s goals.
22. Develops and maintains a working knowledge of NEVHC’s policies and procedures;
interprets policies and procedures for others.
23. Researches, gathers and analyzes data and prepares reports for review and action by
managers.
24. Participates in and complies with all NEVHC mandatory trainings including the
following:
a. Infection Control Program
b. Environment of Care Management Plans and Emergency Management Program; and
participates in emergency response activities as directed
c. Corporate Compliance Program
d. Code of Conduct
e. Risk Management & Compliance
25. Participates in hazardous waste and infection control assignments as required which may
include being designated as an emergency responder to a hazardous substance release or

spill; performing infection control data collection, evaluation, reporting and follow-up in
accordance with clinical health services policy and procedures.

a. Participating in huddles and/or review of daily schedules to prepare for the needs of
patient/families appointments and management of their medical visit as needed.

discipline of care as well as with other.

34. Performs any or all of the duties of the Clinical Support staff (Registered Nurse, Licensed
Vocational Nurse, and Medical Assistant) in the event of absences or heavy workloads.
35. Performs related duties as required.
