FREE PATTERN Design S8932 / Hooded cowl INSTRUCTIONS Note: Work hooded cowl in two sections. Size: circumference of cowl, about 20⅞" [53cm]; height of hood, about 13" [33cm]. Materials: Schachenmayr original Northern, 200g #00213 golden brown. One US 8 [5mm] needles, and one US 8 [5mm] circular needle 16" [40cm] long, plus stitch holder or waste yarn, stitch marker and tapestry needle. Rib pattern: K2, p2; rep from. Stockinette stitch: Knit RS rows; purl WS rows. Gauge: in rib patt (stretched lightly), 18 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10cm]; in St st, 16 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10cm]. Hood: Cast on 108 sts. Work 1⅛" [3cm] in rib patt and beg with a WS row as foll: selvage st, p2, k2, p2; rep from to last st, selvage st. Cont in St st until piece measures 8⅞" [22.5cm] from cast-on, end with a WS row. Next row (= RS), k54, turn, leaving rem 54 sts on holder or waste yarn = 54 sts rem. Bind off at beg of every WS row 1 st 4 times, 2 sts 3 times, 3 sts 2 times, then 4 sts once = 34 sts rem. Cont even until piece measures 11¾" [30cm] from cast-on. Bind off rem sts. Work second half same as first half, binding off sts at beg of RS rows. Cowl: With circular needle, cast on 96 sts. Join to work in rnds, place marker for beg of rnd. Work 8⅞" [20cm] in rib patt. Bind off all sts in patt. Finishing: Weave in ends. Block pieces to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Sew back of hood together. Sew bound-off edge of cowl to lower edge of hood as foll: mark first st and center st at boundoff edge of cowl. Pin first st of cowl to seam at lower edge of hood and each front edge of hood at center st of cowl. Sew cowl to hood, easing evenly around as needed to fit.
