Zacchaeus—This weekend we ask that you assist other families in our parish by

Parish Update—Father Bush was under the weather for Holy Week but was able to concelebrate the Good Friday
service with Father Schmelzer. On Holy Saturday, Father Bush fell in the rectory. His “life alert” did not work, so
it took him a little while to get to the phone. He “celebrated” Easter Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital. He was able to
come home on Wednesday of this week and he is slowly recovering. Father Ron’s mother Doris Schmelzer passed
away on April 1, and we were greatly saddened by his loss. He had promised to assist at all the services for Holy
Week and we were blest to have him here. He had to fly out of Lexington on Easter Morning at 11 a.m. so thanks to
Father Bob Nieberding who was able to celebrate our ten o’clock Mass with us on Easter. Our deacons have taken
on the daily Word and Communion Services; and when Father Bush is unable to celebrate daily Masses, we will
have Word and Communion Services. All the Mass intentions will be moved to later days, and we are sorry for the
inconvenience. We ask your patience over the next couple of weeks. Also, because of the backup of Mass
intentions, we are unable to promise any specific dates until after June.

First Communion—is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at 12 noon!
Catholic Way Bible Study has completed another year of study. Thanks to Mary Kay and Lester
Dzuik who led the group and all those who participated. If you are interested in learning more
about the Bible and the Catholic faith, think about signing up for a class in the fall.
Time really flies! It seems like only yesterday when our parishioner Rob Adams decided to
enter the seminary. He has been studying in Rome, and he called me a couple of weeks ago. It
seems he will be ordained to the Transitional Diaconate—the step before ordination to the
priesthood—on Saturday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington.
Everyone is invited to attend this event! Even more exciting is that Rob’s first duty will be
preaching here at St. Luke’s that afternoon at our 4:30 p.m. Mass. What a gift as we celebrate
the feast of Corpus Christi! I believe that Rob was one of our servers who spoke with Bishop
Gainer when he celebrated his (Bishop Gainer’s) first Corpus Christi in the Diocese here at St.
Luke’s. Rob and his family had an hour in our adoration chapel for many years and their family
and all of us are truly blest by our faithfulness to Our Lord! I hope you will make plans to
celebrate with Rob and his family during this day! Father Bush
A Prayer for the intention of Bishop-elect John Stowe
Heavenly Father, we ask your blessing upon Bishop-elect John Stowe. Give him peace of
mind, good health of body and joy of spirit as he prepares for his new task as Bishop in the Diocese
of Lexington. Following the example of your Son, the Good Shepherd, may Bishop-elect Stowe be
a merciful, wise, and joyful pastor. We ask this in the name of Jesus, the Lord.
Ordination Mass for Bishop-elect Stowe! Will take place on Tuesday, May 5, at the
Cathedral of Christ the King at 2 p.m. and will be aired live on EWTN. Limited seating to the
ordination by invitation only. However, a Vespers service will take place on Monday, May 4
at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral. Everyone is invited to attend the vespers service!

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Today’s observance of Divine Mercy Sunday is a good time to renew our devotion to the Chaplet of Divine
Mercy. There is a close link between this devotion and the pro-life movement. Fr. Seraphim Michalenko, MIC,
who was a principal translator of St. Faustina's diary, and the postulator of her cause of canonization, writes the
following:
"On at least three occasions, from 8:00-11:00 in the evening, she felt like her insides were being torn apart. She
suffered so much that she thought she was going to die. The doctors couldn't figure out what was ailing her, and
no medication was able to alleviate her sufferings. Later, she was given to understand that she was undergoing
those pains for mothers who were aborting their children (Diary, 1276).
"On another occasion, she had a vision of an angel coming with thunderbolts to destroy one of the most
beautiful cities of her country. And she felt powerless to do anything about it (Diary, 474). What antidote did
the Lord give her? The Chaplet of Divine Mercy. [She explained] that the city was to be chastised for its sins,
primarily the sin of abortion." ("Wombs of Mercy," Marian Helpers Bulletin, Summer 1995, p.13).
In 2003, Pope John Paul II issued an Apostolic Blessing to all who pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet “for
mothers, that they not abort their offspring; for infants in danger of being put to death in the womb; for a
change of heart of providers of abortions and of their collaborators; for human victims of stem cell research,
genetic manipulation, cloning and euthanasia; and for all entrusted with the government of peoples, that they
may promote the Culture of Life, so as to put an end to the culture of death."

The Lexington Mystics Girls Spring Camp--The Lexington Mystics club basketball team will be offering a spring camp for
all girls interested in learning the fundamental skills of basketball while fostering teamwork and friendship with other young
girls in the Catholic School System. The spring camp will be available for all girls between fourth and eighth grade. The camp

Prayers for Vocations Diocese of Lexington Daily Prayer for all Vocations--Heavenly
Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His
vineyard. We earnestly beg You to bless our Diocese with many holy priests, seminarians,
religious, consecrated, deacons, marriages, men and women serving in ministry and all
vocations, that they will love You fervently, gladly and courageously spend their lives in service
to Your Son’s Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be
always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that

Prayer to End Abortion--Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of
all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I
rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my
part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself. Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never
to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to
stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again
becomes A nation with liberty and justice Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our
Lord. Amen!
