Course description
This is what students will see IF they read the course handbook
This course is for students who want to use English to learn about legal,
political, business and other issues.
本科目は、法律、政治、ビジネスなどについて、英語を使って学びたい学生を
対象とします。
In this course you will use English to research, discuss, and write about
gender issues in developed and developing countries. This will involve
three projects in which you research specific issues of your choice, such
as women's literacy, that will then be written up and presented in small
groups to your classmates. These projects will allow you to practice
reading critically to develop your ability to research and analyze
information and have many chances to talk in English about your work
with others. Issues covered in class topics will include LGBT issues,
gender constructions in media and effective policies for reaching gender
equality in the workplace, as well as others.
この授業では、先進国および途上国におけるジェンダー問題について、英語を
使ってリサーチし、議論し、レポートを作成します。自身で選んだ特定の問題
(たとえば女性の識字率など)について調べるプロジェクトを3回行い、その成
果をもとにレポートを書き、さらに授業内で少人数のグループで発表します。こ
のプロジェクトを通して、批判的読解の訓練をし、情報を収集し分析する力を養
い、また、自身の研究について英語で話す機会を得ることもできます。授業で
扱うトピックは、LGBT(セクシュアル・マイノリティ)問題、メディアにおけるジェ
ンダーの構築、職場におけるジェンダー平等を達成するための政策などです。
(1) Attendance of 80% or more, (2) active participation in class activities,
and (3) weekly preparation of 1-2 hours outside class are required to
pass this course.
この授業の単位を得るためには(1) 80%以上出席し、(2) 授業に積極的に参
加し、(3) 毎週 1-2 時間の準備をすることが必要。

Week 1: Course introduction, explanation of course requirements, goalsetting
Weeks 2-13: Two or three cycles of background reading and research,
discussions, presentations and writing on issues of students' choice
related to gender in society
Week 14: Reflection and self-evaluation/assessment
Week 15: Class survey and review of the semester
