Track & Field Championship

Facility
 Gulf Shores Sports Complex (Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium) seats 4,000, which includes a new
polyurethane track surface.

Admission – Adults - $10.00; Children under 12 and SSAC college students with valid college ID $5.00
Coaches Meeting
 A mandatory meeting for all coaches will be conducted the evening before the first day of
competition.
Meet Packet
 Meet packet will be available at the coaches meeting.
Electronic devices
 Electronic devices (iPods, cell phones, etc.) are prohibited in the infield
Spikes
 Pyramid spikes of ¼ inch are the ONLY spikes allowed, including high jumpers and javelin
throwers.
Infield access
 The infield area is limited to coaches, event staff and athletes currently competing in an event.
Team areas
 Team tents may be placed on the visitors side stands only and outside of the track area. All
tents must be tied down in bleachers and staked down in grass area for safety, no exceptions.
 Team parking is located on the visitor side (opposite side of the press box).
Trainers
 Trainers will be located on the north end of the track by the flag poles.

 A performance list will be available on April 22, 2015.
 Heat sheets will be available at the coaches meeting.
Meet Results
 Meet results will be posted on site and on the website at the end of each day.

Meet Registration
 All entries must be submitted on www.directathletics.com by the entry deadline – April 20,
2015.
 No addition may be made after the entry deadline – scratches only (deadline for scratches April
23, 2015)
Entry Fee
 The entry fee will be $400 per gender team ($800 for both men’s and women’s teams)
 Make check payable to “SSAC”. Entry fee is due at the time of packet pick up.
Awards
 Awards will be given to the top 3 finishers in each event.
 Top 3 finishers will be named to SSAC All-Conference team.
Event Check-in
 Athletes must check-in with the clerk of the course 20 minutes prior to the start of their event.
Implement Weigh-in
 Implement weigh-in at field house – Friday, April 24 - 9:00am – 11:30am; Saturday, April 25 –
9:00am – 10:30am

Running/Field Events Format
 Prelims will be held in the 100, 200 and 100/110 hurdles. In these events, eight athletes will
advance to the finals based on NCAA rules for advancement.
 All other running events will be run as heats against time.
 All field events, athletes will have three preliminary attempts, with nine athletes advancing to
the finals. In the finals, athletes will have an additional three attempts.
 In events with prelims, heat and lane assignments are determined at random. In events with
finals only, heat and lane assignments are determined by seed times.
o If there are fewer heats than the number of lanes, winner of each heat, plus next fastest
times will qualify for the finals.
o If there is the same number or more heats than number of lanes, qualifiers shall be
determined by time.
o If there are the same numbers or fewer athletes than number of lanes in a prelim event,
the event automatically becomes a FINAL on the next day.
Protest
 In accordance with NCAA rules, all protests must be made in writing to the meet referee within
30 minutes of the completion of the event. Any appeals of the referee’s decision would need to
be made in writing within 30 minutes of that decision and turned in to the Meet Director. The
Meet Director will convene the Jury of Appeals (all Head Coaches not involved in the protest) to
render a decision on the appeal.
Scratch Procedures
 If a declared contestant scratches from an event, that athlete is scratched from the remainder of
the Championship.
Scoring
 Each event will be scored up to eight places for both track and field events and shall be the same
for individual and relay events. Scoring shall be 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
 If two or more competitors are judged as having a tied place, the points for the places involved
will be equally divided between those competitors.
 In the event of a tie for first place in high jump and pole vault, a jump-off will be conducted as
per NCAA Track and Field rules.
