Expectations/Rules Drugs, Alcohol, and Respect: Never consume alcohol or attend functions where alcohol is being consumed by minors Never use any illegal/legal substance or drugs that are not prescribed to the athlete by a doctor Always show respect for all authority including but not limited to: coaches, teachers, parents, administration, judges Never be involved in any kind of bullying On/Off Campus: Dress appropriately, respect yourself and others Avoid using foul language Give 100% effort to all commitments and obligations until finished and fulfilled Avoid inappropriate public displays of affection Program Uniform and Clothing: All uniform items must be kept clean Lost or damaged items will be replaced at the cheerleader’s expense Program uniform and clothing are to be worn by cheerleaders ONLY, may not be lent out to friends Must wear full practice attire/uniform that is assigned All piercings and jewelry must be removed before all games, practices, and events All uniforms will be recollected at the end of the year, unless being the uniform is being retired, or athlete is a senior graduating in the program Program Position: All team choices are final (If there are concerns about tryout results, they may be brought to the athletic director, 48 hours after tryouts) Stunting and competitive positions are subject to change and at the coach’s discretion. Coaches will move athletes around to what seems to work best for the team as a whole. Just because an athlete has always performed in one position, does not mean they will keep that position. Athletes need to be flexible to do what is best for the team overall. Also, athletes that tryout with a particular skill, are expected not only to maintain that skill, but show improvement. Practice Requirements: NO JUNK FOOD OR EATING AT PRACTICE Day assigned team practice clothes, plus sports bra, cheer shoes Hair up, NO clips No Jewelry AT ALL, no form of fake nails Water bottle (Allowed Water or Gatorade) No cell phones out, silence cell phones, put in cell phone bucket if provided Show up time: Practice BEGINS at calendar time, this means mats must be rolled out prior to that time, as well as stretching ALL Practices are mandatory unless previously excused by coaching staff Practices are not excused by Doctor’s notes or parents, missed practices will be determined as excused or unexcused by the coaching staff If absent from school the entire day, must be absent from practice that day as well Grounding from practice is ALWAYS unexcused, as well as; babysitting, Driver’s Ed, lack of transportation, conflict with job schedules, and/or failure to read the calendar (Grounding your son/daughter from cheer punishes the whole team. This is now a responsibility, a commitment.) Game/Competition Requirements Cheer shoes and full uniform (includes hoody and warm-ups) Sports bra (not showing) Hair up and pulled back nicely, NO clips, bow in hair No jewelry AT ALL, no form of fake nails Water Bottle (Allowed Water or Gatorade) NO JUNK FOOD on sidelines No Cell Phones Out Poms, Megaphone for football All games and competitions are mandatory unless previously excused by coaching staff All missed games, events, and competitions will be determined excused or unexcused by coaching staff If a cheerleader misses practice the day before an event, they may be asked to sit the event out Practices during the week of competitions are Black Out practices. Black Out practices are not excused for any reason except vomiting and/or fever. If practices are missed the week of competition, athlete will be replaced by an alternate or another athlete in the program. Cheerleaders will be tested on cheers and sports. If unable to pass, they will be unable to cheer. If they are unable to cheer for more than two weeks in a row, they will be removed from the program. Grade Eligibility Requirements: All athletes must maintain good academic standing to participate according to program, school, district, and CHSAA rules. At no point should any athlete compete or cheer a game if they hold two ‘F’s. An athlete may not hold one ‘F’ if only enrolled in five courses. If any athlete has a ‘F’ and two ‘D’ combination, they may also be asked not to perform. Grade checks will occur weekly. Varsity Nationals: The Varsity team plans to travel to Nationals. Parents are invited to come, but athletes will be rooming together as a team. Costs normally range from $900 to $1,200. This cost normally includes, room, flight, and competition costs. Please understand we will use the same routine from state, with slight changes. This means each athlete’s position is extremely important throughout the entire season. More information is to come, as the year progresses. The requirement for Regionals and Nationals is a well round dancing, stunting, motion, and energy skill, and tumbling. Participation Dues: The following are the list of dues. Please understand that costs and dues are very different. Dues are what pay for the program to run overall. Costs are itemized. We will conduct fundraisers throughout the year to offset costs. All uniforms are owned by ThunderRidge Cheerleading. No monies will be refunded throughout the season, even if an athlete quits, or is removed. Cheer shoes purchased individually. New to Varsity Dues Overall: $1,000 Returning to Varsity Dues Overall: $800 New to Junior Varsity Dues Overall: $900 Returning to Junior Varsity Dues Overall: $700 Level 3 Dues Overall: TBD United Elite Fees, All Teams: $75 per month (August-February) Varsity Nationals: $800-$1200 TR Registration Fee, All Teams: $150 Varsity Competition Team: AN EMPHASIS WILL BE PLACED ON ADVANCED STUNTING AND TUMBLING We currently do not know what division we will be competing for the 2015-2016 school year. If you are not selected to compete Varsity State, you will still be considered a member of the Varsity team and will be asked to compete State for Junior Varsity. No one has a permanent position on the mat, and everyone should constantly be working for mat time. Competition spots will be determined based on the needs of the team. Alternating positions Benefits to the team: *At practices, alternating athletes are able to fill in as well as spot *If an athlete is unable to participate, an alternate can fill in and already knows the routine and has been trained at the same level as the other athletes Benefits to alternating athletes, for the athlete: *Ability to cheer at games *Performs at pep assemblies *Varsity alternates still have the ability to letter How do you choose who will compete, for all levels? Odd numbers will make Varsity, and possibly JV and Level 3. The decision of who makes the competition floor is made the same way teams are chosen at tryouts. After teams are decided in April, athletes are evaluated at practices and other events. Tumbling is often the determining factor, however stunting is also considered. For example, if the team is competing in Large Varsity, the top 20 tumblers may not be chosen, they need to fit into solid stunt groups as well. At 20 that would be 5 flyers, 10 bases and 5 back spots. A versatile athlete that can be placed in different stunting positions is helpful to this process. Also, athletes may work in and out of the routine until the days prior to a competition to assure the right athletes were ready for the competition floor. Consequences: Preparation consequences will result in extra conditioning for the team. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated, and benching from games will occur. Once an athlete has been benched for three games due to unexcused absences, they will NOT letter. For JV, they may be asked to not compete with the team. All other consequences are left up to the coaching staff. Please understand that repeat offenders will be required to have a parent meeting about the future of the athlete in the program. Parent/Athlete Agreement This program is physically demanding, time and financially consuming, and has high expectations. I have read the 2015/2016 ThunderRidge Cheerleading Contract and clearly understand all that is required as an athlete and parent. I promise to communicate through the requested chain of command. I will follow all rules pertaining to practices, games, competitions, events, and due dates. I understand athlete position can change over the course of the season. I understand this contract counts as the warning for participation in alcohol, drugs, and bullying. I understand I may be removed from the cheerleading program if I participate in alcohol, drugs, and bullying. I understand I am underage, and participation and possession of alcohol and drugs is illegal. I know and accept the consequences if rules are broken. Parent/Guardian Role Contract Cheerleading requires a GREAT deal of time, commitment, and dedication on the part of the parents. Before tryouts, read and consider all information before allowing your son/daughter to tryout. If your son/daughter is selected please: *Encourage him/her to abide by the rules set forth by coaches and administrators 100% *Attend parent meetings *Make payments in a timely fashion and understand the financial requests *Refrain from using cheerleading as a punishment (This does not punish one cheerleader but an entire squad) *Agree to notify your coach if your cheerleader is ill *Oversee the time management of your cheerleader (i.e. practice and game schedules, homework completion, relaxation time, etc.) *Furnish punctual transportation if needed (particularly if your son/daughter does not drive) *Provide all the encouragement your cheerleader needs in his/her pursuit of excellence *Check the cheer website and emails for any and all updates *Recognize that unforeseen circumstances do occur, interim changes to anything in this document may be made at the discretion of the coaches and administration. All decisions made by the coaches and/or administration are final. *Communicate by chain of command: 1-athlete to coach, 2-parent to coach, if unresolved, 3-athlete, parent, coach and athletic director meet *Hold cheerleader accountable to communicate absences, conflicts, concerns, etc with her team coach first *Respect that practices are closed to parents, unless prearranged *Contact the coaches via email or phone to discuss any issues, or to schedule a time to meet. Games, before and after practice, at school, or in front of athletes is not the time or place to approach the coaching staff about issues. *Participate in fundraisers to help the program run smoothly *Allow coaches 48 hours to respond to any inquiries Social Media Contract As a ThunderRidge Cheerleader, I am placed in a leadership position. As a leader, I am to present myself in a positive manner in the way I speak, dress, write, act, photograph, and treat others. This includes the way I present myself, my family, my team, and my school with my actions online. I understand that if I participate in social media, I am responsible for anything I post/retweet. This includes, but is not limited to, photos I post, statuses or tweets I post, groups I join, pictures others post of me, and statuses or tweets others post on my page. I understand these consequences if I participate in irresponsible social media use: 1) Pictures posted using the middle finger, as well as statuses with excessive profanity will result in a one game suspension. More than one instance will result in removal from the cheerleading program. 2) Posting a picture or video in uniform or other cheer gear using the middle finger or profanity will result in immediate removal from the cheerleading program. 3) Written statuses promoting alcohol, drugs, or participation in other illegal acts will result in a two game suspension. More than one instance will result in removal from the cheerleading program. I understand that if I take the time to write out a status about illegal acts, it is implied that I am not “kidding.” 4) Any form of cyber bullying will result in immediate removal from the cheerleading program. This includes, but is not limited to calling teammates and others by name on a public forum, or making up/spreading rumors of others on social media. 5) A posted picture of me at a social gathering that has alcohol or other illegal substances in the background will result in a two game suspension. More than one instance will result in removal from the cheerleading program. 6) A recent picture of me with an illegal substance in hand will result in immediate removal from the cheerleading program. I understand it is implied that I am drinking or taking the substance in hand. 7) Posts or retweets of nude pictures will result in immediate removal from the cheerleading program. Note: All rules are applied to screen shots or tangible photos sent to the coaching staff, not posted on a social media. This contract is applied for all years I am a member of the ThunderRidge Cheerleading Program. THERE ARE MANY WAIVERS WITHIN THIS SECTION. THE BEGINNING OF EACH WAIVER WILL BE LABELED BY A BLUE COLOR. PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL WAIVERS WITH THE ATHLETE THAT IS REGISTERING. PARENT/GUARDIAN ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE AT THE VERY END OF WAIVER SECTION SIGNIFIES THAT PARENT/GUARDIAN AND ATHLETE UNDERSTAND ALL WAIVERS FOR PARTICIPATION TO COMPETE IN ATHLETICS WITHIN DOUGLAS COUNTY SCHOOLS. Training Rules and Expectations / Parent or Guardian Advisement and Permit High-School Athletics Training Rules & Expectations As a representative of DCSD’s athletic programs, I understand and accept that: • • • • It is my privilege and honor to wear my school colors I am a leader in and out of uniform My actions are a reflection of myself, my family, my school, and community I’m accountable for my performance in the classroom and my conduct in the community. In exchange for the opportunity to participate in DCSD interscholastic athletics and in accordance with Policy JJI, I agree to the following: Scope of Rules From the day a student first participates in a DCSD high-school sport until that student graduates from high school, these rules remain in effect, throughout the school year, during summer, fall, winter and spring breaks, including weekends, vacations, and holidays, and regardless if the student is on or off DCSD property. The consequences outlined here are in addition to, not instead of, those the student may receive under the DCSD’s Code of Conduct, the Colorado High School Activities Association By-laws, coaches’ team rules, or other sources. They represent minimum sanctions; the Principal or designee may increase or modify these consequences in particular cases or in general as he or she deems appropriate. Although some prohibited behaviors listed below refer to DCSD’s Code of Conduct, because these training rules are in effect at times and in places when the Code of Conduct may not be, and because students who participate in athletics are held to higher behavioral expectations than other students, the Principal or designee may determine that a student’s conduct constitutes grounds for imposing an athletic penalty under these rules even when that conduct does not result in suspension or expulsion under the Code of Conduct. Prohibited Behaviors • Violating DCSD’s policies regarding drugs & alcohol (JICH) and tobacco use (JICG) • Violating DCSD’s weapons policy (JICI) • Violating DCSD’s gang-related behaviors and dress policy (JICF) • Violating any criminal law • Continued willful disobedience or open and persistent defiance of proper authority • Willful destruction or defacing of school property • Behavior detrimental to the student’s, other students’, or school personnel’s welfare, health, or safety • Any other conduct that would constitute grounds for suspension under DCSD policy JKD/JKE. Consequences The following minimum consequences will result whenever the Principal or designee concludes that a student has engaged in any of the prohibited behaviors listed above. • • • First offense: For sports with 11 or fewer regular-season contests, the student will be suspended for the next contest; for those with more than 11 regular-season contests, the student will be suspended for the next 2 contests. These suspensions will be imposed whether or not the next contest or contests are regular-season contests or are special events, tournaments, or qualifiers. Second offense: The student will be suspended from all sports throughout DCSD for 1 full year from the date of the infraction. If, however, a student initiates contact with school authorities to voluntarily report his or her involvement in conduct prohibited by these rules, then the student will be eligible for the following lesser second offense penalty: The student will be suspended from the remainder of the season of the sport he or she was participating in at the time of the conduct and, upon proof that the student has successfully completed an intervention class chosen by the school athletic director, the student will only be suspended from the first 50% of the regularly scheduled contests of the next Sport that the student participates in for an entire season. Third offense: The student will be suspended from all sports throughout DCSD for 1 full year from the date of the infraction, except that if a second offense suspension is still in effect, then the date of the third offense suspension will not begin on the date of the infraction, but rather will begin on the day after the second offense suspension ends. Tobacco Consequence Only: • First offense: The student receives a warning and must attend site based tobacco education or community service. • Second offense: For sports with 11 or fewer regular-season contests, the student will be suspended for the next contest; for those with more than 11 regular-season contests, the student will be suspended for the next 2 contests. These suspensions will be imposed whether or not the next contest or contests are regular-season contests or are special events, tournaments, or qualifiers. • Third offense: The student will be suspended from all sports throughout DCSD for 1 full year from the date of the infraction, except that if a second offense suspension is still in effect, then the date of the third offense suspension will not begin on the date of the infraction, but rather will begin on the day after the second offense suspension ends. Nothing in these rules prohibits the Principal, designee, or individual coaches from establishing and enforcing additional rules applicable to Athletics, such as lesser or different penalties for failing to exercise good sportsmanship at practices or competitions or for failing to demonstrate good citizenship at school or school-sponsored events. STUDENT AND PARENT OR GUARDIAN ADVISEMENT AND PERMIT Colorado High School Activities Association Rules and Regulations state that no pupil shall participate in interscholastic activities until he/she is on file with the appropriate office: (a) a statement signed by his or her parent or legal guardian that he/she has the consent to participate and (b) a statement from a practicing physician certifying that the pupil is physically fit to participate in high school interscholastic activities. WARNING: Although participation in supervised interscholastic athletics and activities may be one of the least hazardous in which any student will engage in or out of school, BY ITS NATURE, PARTICIPATION IN INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS INCLUDES A RISK OF INJURY WHICH MAY RANGE IN SEVERITY FROM MINOR TO LONG-TERM CATASTROPHIC. Although serious injuries are not common in supervised school athletic programs, it is impossible to eliminate the risk. Participants can and have the responsibility to help reduce the chance of injury. PLAYERS UNDERSTAND AND, BY THEIR PARTICIPATION, AGREE THAT THEY MUST AND WILL OBEY ALL SAFETY AND TRAINING RULES, FOLLOW DIRECTIVES OF THE COACHES, PROMPTLY REPORT ALL PHYSICAL PROBLEMS TO THEIR COACHES, FOLLOW A PROPER CONDITIONING PROGRAM AND INSPECT THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT DAILY. By signing this Permission Form parents and student acknowledge that they have read and understand this warning. PARENTS OR STUDENTS WHO DO NOT WISH TO ACCEPT THE RISKS DESCRIBED IN THIS WARNING SHOULD NOT SIGN THIS PERMISSION FORM. We understand that coaches, trainers and team physician may use their own judgment in securing medical aid and ambulance service in case of an emergency or in mild injuries where parents cannot be reached. Also the team physician, trainer and/or coach may apply first aid treatment until the family physician can be contacted. I have read the forgoing, acknowledge the “WARNING” above, accept the risks described and agree to abide by the principles and regulations contained therein. I/We have read the foregoing, acknowledge the “WARNING” above, accept the risks described and hereby give consent for the above named student to participate in interscholastic athletics within the Douglas County School District Re. 1, in the following Colorado High School Activities Association approved sports (except as otherwise submitted by written notice to the ThunderRidge Athletic Office): Baseball, basketball, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. Consent includes spirit teams, managing and training. INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES INSURANCE WAIVER I fully understand the Douglas County School District Re. 1 does not provide health or life insurance coverage for the above named student while he/she is participating in the activities associated with interscholastic sports. I/We further understand that it is my/our responsibility to provide adequate insurance coverage to the above named student. CHSAA-STUDENT ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION FORM I hereby give my consent for my son/daughter/legal ward to compete in athletics for ThunderRidge High School in Colorado High School Activities Association approved sports, except as noted by written submission to the ThunderRidge Athletic Office, and I have read and understand the general guidelines for eligibility as outlined in the CHSAA Competitor’s Brochure (as found on the CHSAA sitewww.chsaa.org). I understand that my school and/or program may have stricter guidelines. As part of CHSAA eligibility requirements, my son/daughter must be enrolled in at least five classes equaling 2.5 Carnegie Units at all times during his/her high school career. I have read, understand and agree to the General Eligibility Guidelines as outlined in the CHSAA Competitor’s Brochure. No student shall represent his/her school in interschool athletics until there is a statement on file with the superintendent or principal signed by his/her parent or legal guardian and a signed physical form certifying that he/she has passed an adequate physical examination within the past year, noting that in the opinion of the examining physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner or a certified/registered chiropractor, is physically fit to participate in high school athletics; that student has the consent of his/her parents or legal guardian to participate; and, the parent and participant have read, understand and agree to the CHSAA guidelines for eligibility. Statement of Understanding Registration Fee – The Board of Education has set the registration fee for HIGH SCHOOL athletics at $150.00 per sport per athlete - Payable July 1- July 15, 2015. Condition for Fee Refund 1. 2. 3. Refunds will be made to athletes who are cut by their coach. If an athlete moves from the school's attendance area or from the District, the fee will be refunded on a prorated basis Athletes who quit the sport, become academically ineligible or are suspended from participation for disciplinary reasons are not eligible for a refund. GENERAL The interscholastic programs within the Douglas County School District Re.1 are offered to supplement the goals and objectives of public high school education. In order to make contribution to the function and purpose of the total educational process, interscholastic activities must have as primary objectives the teaching of wholesome attitudes and disciplines. The programs must teach an appreciation for physical fitness, personal health, loyalty, personal sacrifice, dedication and teamwork. In order to realize the potential of interscholastic programs, there are physical and mental disciplines which must be practiced. MEDICAL I hereby give my consent for medical treatment deemed necessary by physicians designated by school authorities and/or for transportation to a hospital emergency room for treatment for any illness or injury resulting from his/her athletic participation. I understand this authorization will only be enforced when I cannot personally be contacted and provide for immediate treatment. DISTRICT WEBSITE I hereby give my consent to release pictures, name or other information pertaining to my student/athlete to use on a district website. ACADEMICS Eligibility for competition in interscholastic activities is determined in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Colorado High School Activities Association, The Continental League, Douglas County School District Re. 1, and ThunderRidge High School. TRANSPORTATION DOUGLAS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RE-1 Transportation Awareness Consent and Release The Douglas County School District (the “District”) provides District transportation for students to and from a great many activities, events, matches and games. However, the District is unable to provide District transportation in all circumstances and to all events. When District transportation is not available, it is the student’s parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to provide or arrange for their student’s transportation to and from the event. When District transportation is not available and other alternative forms of transportation are utilized, the District cannot and does not assume any responsibility for the safety, training of drivers, condition of vehicles, adequacy for the use or purpose intended or any other matters related to any non-District transportation. Therefore, we, the undersigned parent/guardian and student, hereby acknowledge, agree and understand that the District does not insure, endorse, approve or sponsor any form of non-District transportation, whether by parents, students or otherwise, to and from District off-campus activities or events. We further acknowledge it is our responsibility to provide or arrange for our/my child’s transportation to District events when District transportation is not available. As such we consent to our child’s use of alternative means of transportation, including private vehicles driven by parents, and, if applicable, consent to our child’s use of a vehicle to transport himself/herself to off-campus events. We hereby waive, release, discharge and agree to hold harmless and indemnify the District, its agents, employees, insurers and Board of Education, from any claim, cause of action, damage, injury, or demand of any nature, including bodily injury, property damage or death, arising from or sustained during or as a result of my/our child’s utilization of or participation in any non-District transportation, whether furnished by us, our student, parent or otherwise. Tennis-Cross Country-Gymnastics-Swim/Dive-Golf Teams Site Management and Consent The Douglas County School District (the “District”) provides District transportation for students to and from a great many activities, events, matches and games. The nature of these sports, needing off-campus practice and meet sites, limits the district’s capacity to bus on every occasion. In such instances, whether for practices or scheduled meets, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian of the student to arrange the student’s transportation to and from the event. The school district will not assume responsibility for the supervision, safety or adequacy of non-school district furnished transportation. Be further advised that the school district personnel may not supervise certain golf practices, matches and tennis practices. Participation in the practices or matches rest with the student and their parent/guardian. The school district will not assume responsibility for the student’s conduct or safety in connection with these practices and/or matches. As a student participant in the Douglas County Schools golf, cross country, gymnastics, swim/dive, and/or tennis programs, I recognize the dangers associated with the issues described and I agree to assume the risk involved while participating. As the parent/guardian of the above-named student, I recognize the dangers associated with the issues described and consent to the participation of the above-named student. SPORTING BEHAVIOR A student group made up of members from the Douglas County Student Advisory Group and student representatives of athletic programs at the high schools, met to discuss and work on sporting behavior with the schools in Douglas County. After discussion and feedback, two documents were developed. It is the hope of these students that their peers, as well as their supporters, work to understand and implement their ideals. Our Pledge for Sporting Behavior I understand the responsibilities and privileges of representing my school in competitive activities and, therefore, will maintain the high standards of sporting behavior. I pledge to uphold the integrity of my team, my school and my community by: • • • • taking responsibility for all of my actions; demonstrating respect for everyone; being a positive role model; accepting the outcome of the event with dignity and class *Developed and written by students representing all high schools in the Douglas County School District. TRHS CHEER SPECIFIC TRYOUT PERMISSION: -I understand if my daughter makes either squad, I will permit her to participate as a team member of the TRHS Cheer Program. -I will support the efforts of the organization through my participation in fundraising and team support. - I fully understand and am in agreement with the 2015-2016 ThunderRidge Cheer Policies & Tryout Information as presented in the pre-tryout parent meeting. -I will support the Coaches' decisions in final team placements and realize placement decisions are at the coaches discretion. -If any discrepancies with placement shall arise during tryout week, I will wait 24 hours until I contact the coach for clarification. -I have read the financial page of the policy and procedure manual, and agree to adhere to all of the financial responsibilities. -I give my child permission to try out for the ThunderRidge High School Cheer Program. -I certify that I have read and agree to the medical release stated in the above Waiver Sections.
