6th Sunday of Easter
OUR LADY OF FATIMA
May 13 is the anniversary of the apparition
of Our Lady to three shepherd children in
Fatima in Portugal in 1917. She appeared
six times to Lucia, 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and his sister Jacinta, 6, between
May 13, 1917 and October 13, 1917.
The story of Fatima begins in 1916, when,
against the backdrop of the First World War
which had introduced Europe to the most
horrific and powerful forms of warfare yet
seen, a resplendent figure appeared to the
three children who were in the field tending
the family sheep.
Then, on May 13, 1917, an apparition of ‘a
woman all in white, more brilliant than the
sun’ presented itself to the three children. The woman wore a white mantle edged with gold and held a rosary in her hand. The woman asked
them to pray and devote themselves to the Holy Trinity and to “say the
Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war.”
In the final apparition the woman revealed her name in response to Lucia’s question: “I am the Lady of the Rosary.” That same day, 70,000 people had turned out to witness the apparition, following a promise by the
woman that she would show the people that the apparitions were true. By
1930 the Bishop had approved of the apparitions and they have been approved by the Church as authentic.
What is the central meaning of the message of Fatima? Nothing different
from what the Church has always taught: it is, “the exhortation to prayer
as the path of “salvation for souls” and, likewise, the summons to penance and conversion.”

MASTER PLAN AND BUILDING PROJECTS UPDATE
In December 2013, Fr. Than initiated a conversation about our present St. Aloysius campus and the many
needs of our physical plant. With lay leaders, he discussed the priorities of the past Hand in Hand Master
Plans along with more recent input that we had received from parishioners. Thematically, the constant
threads for many years had been:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
What do we need to do presently and in the future to accommodate the mission and growth
of the Parish?
How can we better handle parking and facilitate traffic flow through the campus presently and
in the future?
What are the needs of the Childcare Center with respect to its growth and the deteriorating
physical plant?
Is the Parish Administration building still functional and providing utility to parishioners?
Are there any other issues that we should consider?
A Master Plan Committee was formed in February 2014 to study the Parish and make the recommendations. The focus of the committee was to not only determine the greatest needs but to determine the best
sequencing of the projects to cause the least amount of disruption to everyday life at St Aloysius.
In April 2014, meetings were held with the Parish Council and leaders of commissions and committees
throughout the parish as well as all Parishioners. The outcome of the meetings specified that in addition to
providing a new childcare center and Parish Administration building, the Parish overwhelmingly prioritized
traffic flow, a parish wide Activity Center, additional meeting spaces, a Chapel, and the renovation of the
existing Parish Hall. From this information, Henry Carville and his team evaluated the layout of our Parish
and recommended the current building plan:
1) Parking lot changes were made last summer to better accommodate traffic flow.
2) Presently, we are renovating the present parish administration building to accommodate childcare as a
temporary location during the construction phase of the new Childcare Center.
3) Construction of the new childcare center with additional parking will begin this summer. In addition, we
will renovate our Parish Hall and improve lighting in our church.
4) Upon completion of the Childcare Center, construction will begin on the new Parish Administration
Building .
5) The current Parish Administration Building will be used for meetings and the Chapel will continue to be
used for daily masses and other religious functions.
6) Future plans include a new Parish Activity center with additional meeting rooms, a new Chapel and
more parking.
This is an ambitious plan, in line with the current Parish priorities as well as those set forth through many
years of planning and discussion during the two prior phases of the Hand in Hand Campaigns that began
more than 20 years ago. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the members of this parish, and ongoing
building contributions, the parish has $5,000,000 available to begin the first five items of construction listed
above. However, since our leadership does not want to burden the Parish with significant long term debt,
we are in the early phases of evaluating and moving forward with a capital campaign so the needs of our
vibrant Parish can be met. To address our needs and plans we will be initiating an intensive fundraising effort titled: “Hand in Hand: Faith in Action.” We will continue to update the Parishioners on our progress.
Please join us on May 31 at 2:00 p.m. for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Child Care Center. We
look forward to seeing you there!

Spiritual Growth Commission
Linking reports were given and no issues were identified.
All ministry leaders will be invited to the September Leadership Night meeting and individual leaders will be invited
to each subsequent commission meeting throughout next
year. The Strategic Plan was reviewed – successes were
identified, and opportunities for collaboration with other
commissions were discussed (i.e., family focused communal prayer events, Advent Giving Tree, a Living Rosary,
and the St. Aloysius Feast Day). The commission is considering ways to increase interest in the Catholic faith and
for parishioner involvement in the upcoming “Holy Year of
Mercy” as proclaimed by Pope Francis.
Upcoming
events are the ACTS retreat for men on August 27 – 30
and for women on September 24 – 27. The Adult Formation Ministry is actively preparing for the presentation
by Matthew Kelly on November 13 at 7:00 p.m. Four hundred tickets have already been sold – tickets can be
bought through the Parish Office.
St. Aloysius Leadership Night – April 21, 2015
Recap of Pastoral Council Meeting
Administration Commission
The Commission members discerned new members for
the coming year. The problem with the water line leak is
being addressed. Plans are being made for a capital
campaign to fund the approved building projects. The
new Child Care Center and the Parish Office project will
be bid soon, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for May 6
and bid opening scheduled for May 14. John Bennett will
speak at all masses during the weekend of May 2 – 3 regarding kick off of the financial campaign for the building
projects. Upcoming events include a meeting on Thursday, April 23 of the Stewardship of Ministry and the theme
for this year, “The Year of Mercy”. The Ministry Celebration crawfish boil is scheduled for May 2, the annual auction will be Friday, October 9 at L’Auberge, and the Parish
Fair will be November 6 – 8, 2015.
Worship Commission
Holy Week and Paschal Triduum events were reviewed
and deemed highly successful. A highlight of the Easter
Vigil service was the spontaneous singing of the Hallelujah by the parishioners in attendance! Goals for 2015 –
2016 include continued linking with all Worship Commission ministries, reassessing the music survey results, and
planning for the 2016 Triduum. The next Liturgical Ministry Retreat will be January 12 or 19. Implementation of
the Ministry Scheduler program is on track for June 1,
2015.
Community Life Commission
Work is ongoing to restructure the Ambassadors Ministry
to increase participation. A Senior Ministry luncheon is
scheduled for May 19 and the St. Aloysius Feast Day will
be June 20. The Singles Ministry is back up and running,
with events scheduled for April and June. The Men’s
Club Crawfish Boil, originally scheduled for April 17, has
been rescheduled for Saturday, May 16, from 5:00 until
8:00 p.m. at Walk Ons Restaurant near the LSU campus.
Education Commission
The Commission discerned how many new members will
be needed for the upcoming year and what gifts the potential members could bring to the work of the Commission. The success of the recent First Communion celebration was reviewed – the Commission will give Tricia
Greely feedback on the seating arrangements and the
organization of the event. Collaboration with the Spiritual
Growth Commission continues to develop family prayer
events, special retreats, rosaries, etc. for the coming
year.
Pastoral Council
The meeting opened with a prayer, followed by a discussion on issues brought up during Leadership Night.
These included resolution of the concerns regarding the
Girl Scouts and the approval of the design for a St. Aloysius Parish T-shirt. Fr. Burns updated the Council on the
plans that the new pastor, Fr. Randy Cuevas, has for upcoming meetings with Fr. Burns, the Finance Committee,
and Parish Staff. Melanie Lemoine will speak to Fr. Randy
about meeting with the Pastoral Council. An update was
given on the new sound system and issues with the lighting in the church. Phase 1 of the Master Plan will go out
for bid in May. The work of Parish Facilities Manager Bill
Quirk and efforts by Erin Candilora for a smooth transition
into her new position as St. Aloysius School Principal
were commended. The Council closed its meeting with a
prayer by Fr. Burns.
Social Responsibility Commission
The focus of this commission in all activities continues to
be evangelization. The Stephen Ministry is seeking two
new leaders. The recent initiative to fill a truck with donations for St. Vincent de Paul was so successful that four
trucks were filled. A need has been identified to provide
acute help for parishioners experiencing grief and seeking
grief recovery. There are approximately fifteen professional counselors within the St. Aloysius community; the
commission is developing action steps to reach out to
these counselors and create a plan to create a support
system/support group to promote healing for those parishioners in need. The next Cantera Mission trip is
scheduled for March 24 – 31, and all available slots for
participation have been filled. A ministry evaluation is
being conducted on the Interfaith Federation.
