January 11, 2015 The Baptism of the Lord Parish Bulletin Issue 1 Volume XLVII ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH 2025 Stuart Avenue Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808-3979 (225) 343-6657 Fax (225) 344-6847 Website: www.aloysius.org The Baptism of the Lord This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Mark 7:1-11 Vision Statement St. Aloysius Parish is a vibrant community of peace, love and unity as the living body of Christ. January 11, 2015 Mission Statement St. Aloysius Parish embraces and nurtures all, inspiring each to act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly in the love of God. The Baptism of the Lord PARISH STAFF Dearly Beloved Brothers and Sisters, ETCETERA... First of all, thank you so much for the outpouring of prayers, love, and concern for Ken and me. As of this writing, Ken's condition has improved. He is able to breathe on his own, respond to commands, recognizes people, etc. However, his recovery will probably be long, so please continue to pray for him. As for me, I have been struggling with several hospital stays and remain very weak. As a result of this, and after much prayer and reflection, and for the good of the parish, I have decided to ask Bishop Muench for a leave from the day to day responsibilities of being pastor of St. Aloysius Church so that I can concentrate on my treatments and discern what God calls me to do. Our lives are in God's hands and we can only trust in the promise of our faithful God. Bishop Muench has granted my request, and Fr. Gerald Burns has graciously agreed to be administrator of the parish in my absence. I thank the staff and all those who have helped in the past few weeks, especially Fr. Sanjay and Deacon Chauvin. Canonically, I remain pastor of the parish, so may I dare to ask you to continue to lift up your pastor in prayer as I promise to do the same for you?! This was the first time since my ordination that I did not celebrate Mass with my community at Christmas and New Year. I missed that very much. I pray that the New Year will be one of grace and abundant blessings for all of you. I will miss you very much, especially the children who are so dear to my heart. Love, Fr.
