Things Above from Fr. Bilot
!"#$%&#'!$()*$)+$,-.-/#$0#&1*$
The Sunday following the Solemnity
of Easter, the celebration of Jesus
Christ Risen from the dead, is the Feast
of Divine Mercy. St. Pope John Paul, II
instituted the Sunday after Easter as
Divine Mercy Sunday. Why? We see
the endless mercy of God’s love
towards all his people in the Passion,
Death and Resurrection of his only begotten Son, Jesus
Christ. With the Father giving of his Son, and allowing him to
suffer and die for us for the forgiveness of sins -- our sins -we are given the hope and promise of one day being in
heaven. When we avail ourselves of the Sacrament of
Reconciliation and the Most Holy Eucharist, we are calling
upon the Divine Mercy to forgive us, heal us and restore us
in God’s love.
Divine Mercy is a Christian devotion to the unending
merciful love of God toward all people. The devotion to
Divine Mercy comes from the apparitions of Jesus (the act of
becoming visible) received by St. Faustina Kowalska. St.
Faustina lived from 1905-1938 in the country of Poland. At
the time, she reported a number of apparitions and
conversations with Jesus, which she wrote in her diary.
There are three main themes of the devotion: 1) ask for
and obtain the mercy of God; 2) trust in Christ’s abundant
mercy (yes, the Lord desires to shower us with his mercy, as
mercy is a gracious kindness instead of a just harsh
treatment); and, 3) show mercy to others by our actions, thus
showing God’s mercy through us.
As we celebrate the Divine Mercy given to us, may we
always be grateful for the Lord’s kindness and pay it forward
to others. I suggest you delve more into this devotion by
reading St. Faustina’s diary. Fr. John will be explaining and
leading the Chaplet of Divine Mercy on Sunday at 3:00 PM in
Church.
Now, to the temporal needs of the parish. You may have
noticed that the area behind the elementary school is closed
off (and will be until August).
I apologize for this
inconvenience; however, the renovation is allowing us to
update our facilities. First, the outdoor restrooms are
antiquated and not handicapped accessible. The locker
room is in need of repair and updating (the school was built
in the early 1950’s). So, our plan is to renovate the locker
room and construct a new handicapped-accessible public
restroom. The great news about this update? The restroom
facilities will allow access from inside and outside of the
school – depending on the season and event in progress.
This will save us a lot of money in not having to renovate two
sets of restroom facilities. And, we plan to construct a youth
ministry office. The HVAC (heating/cooling) system over the
construction area is at the end of its life and needs to be
updated.
Page 3
Other infrastructure improvements are also
necessary in conjunction with the proposed
construction of the outdoor athletic complex. Our
goal is to re-do the athletic field and track. The
track was rebuilt in the 1980’s and needs to be
updated. The athletic field is grass, and the desire
is to modernize it. A large multi-purpose room will
be renovated so that different teams and clubs can
use the space.
This renovation has been
discussed with the Stewardship Commission and
Parish Council members, with each of them giving
their approval.
As of this writing, I was informed that the
stained glass windows on the south side of the
church should be re-installed in mid- to late April. I
am excited to have the stained glass repaired and
restored. I certainly will not miss looking at the
styrofoam!
Finally, I apologize, but I forgot to inform you in
my previous bulletin articles that I am on retreat
until Tuesday evening. Know that you have been
and continue to be in my prayers.
In God’s gracious mercy,
Fr. Jim Bilot
The Lord is risen! As Christ's disciples, we are called
to go forth and spread the good news of His Resurrection.
Divine Child's many ministries are examples of how
many of you answer that call. Our ministries require not
only gifts of time and talent, but also of financial help.
Please prayerfully consider supporting Church of the
Divine Child with electronic donations through Faith
Direct. You may sign up online at www.faithdirect.net
using our church code MI143 or mail in an enrollment
form from the parish office.
As always, we sincerely appreciate your donations,
whether through Faith Direct or use of our parish
envelopes.

Commentary
Divine Mercy Sunday…
Jesus I Trust In You!
Divine Mercy Sunday: On April
30, 2000, during the celebration of
the canonization Mass of St. Faustina
Kowalska, our Holy Father Pope John Paul II (who
is now Saint John Paul II) spoke these words: "It is
important then that we accept the whole message
that comes to us from the word of God on this
Second Sunday of Easter, which from now on
throughout the Church, will be called Divine Mercy
Sunday” (www.divinemercysunday.com). “Divine
Mercy Sunday” is a beautiful day to think about how
much mercy our Lord Jesus Christ has bestowed
upon us! In a very specific way, Jesus covers us
with His Divine Mercy every time we see Him in the
Sacrament
of
Reconciliation
(confession).
Throughout the celebration of Holy Mass, we
consistently ask Jesus to have mercy on us. This is a
great day to thank Jesus for the Divine Mercy He has
already given us, and also a great opportunity to ask
for even a greater share of His mercy.
Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 p.m. today in the
Church: Please join us today at 3:00p.m. (which is
the hour of Divine Mercy) in the Church for the
recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I will lead
the chaplet during the hour of mercy after a short
explanation of it.
God Bless You,
Fr. John

Burnt Toast
“When I was about eight or nine, my mom burnt some toast. One night that stood out in my mind is
when she had made dinner for us after a very long and rough day at work, she placed a plate of jam and
extremely burned toast in front of my dad. Not slightly burnt but completely blackened toast. I was just
waiting to see if anyone noticed the burnt toast and say anything. But Dad just ate his toast and asked
me if I did my homework and how my day was. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do
remember hearing my mom apologizing to dad for burning the toast. And I’ll never forget what he said:
“Sweetie, I love burned toast.”
Later that night, I went to tell my dad good night and ask him if he really liked his toast burned. He put
his arm on my shoulder and said, “Your momma put in a very long day at work today and she was very
tired. And besides, A burnt toast never hurts anyone but you know what does? Harsh words!”
The he continued to say “You know, life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. I’m not the best
at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like every other human. What I’ve
learned over the years, is that learning to accept each others faults and choosing to celebrate each others differences, is one of the most important keys for creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship. Life is too short to wake up with regrets. Love the people who treat you right and have compassion
for the ones who don’t.”

PAWS Visits Divine Child Elementary School!
Paws visited DC for reading month! Everyone was invited
to wear Detroit Tigers’ apparel to celebrate. It certainly
was an honor to have Paws in the building getting our
students excited about reading.
While he was here, Paws enacted a story for the
kindergarten, first and second grade students and
checked their comprehension through a series of
questions. The students who were selected by Paws and
who answered the questions
correctly were awarded a prize.
After the story, Paws went
around to all the grades as we
chanted, "Let's Go Tigers!" Paws
also got everyone excited about
Opening Day on April 6. Thank you to the homeroom

project, which focused on promises and hope. The students in grades 1-3
made Noah Brown Bag Puppets to help remember the courage and
strength of Noah and his family. While the students in grades 4-8 competed
in the Noah's Ark Bookmark Contest. The younger students submitted their
favorite illustrations of the story of Noah while the older students added the
bible verse to their illustration. The following students won the bookmark
contest for their grade level: Leona Wisniewski-4th Grade, Mia Sinatra-5th
Grade, Tatianna Borg-6th Grade, Claire Garner-7th Grade and Maggie
