Knitember is here!
Kids and toys
This is just the cutest idea ever! Inspiration 001
is a pattern book filled with beautiful kids' designs for girls and boys. Coordinated with each
design, you can knit an awesome play pal in a
matching color. From pullovers to slip-overs,
giraffes to rabbits, this book has them all.
It’s an all round charming magazine with great
kids' models and sweet stuffed animals.
The featured yarn is Aventica; a multi-color,
harmonious self-patterning yarn. The special
yarn structure lends an element of light elasticity. Aventica is made from 25% new wool, 65%
acrylic and 10% polyamide.
Each 50g ball has 120m and it knits up “chunky”
at 16sts/10cm on 6.0-7.0mm needles.
You’ll find Aventica and patterning at both RCY
locations… while supplies last!
SMC Inspiration pairs up kids

Don’t you love fall knitting? The cooler air temperatures just put us in the mind for mittens, scarves and wool. The kids are back in school
and you can be too! Take one of our fall workshops and get inspired for a hand-knit/crochet winter full of fun.
Schoppel Wolle Gradient
If you love Zauberball, get
ready to do backflips for Gradient! It comes in the same
charming ball and has the
same slow color repeats, but it
knits to a much larger gauge.
This slightly felted 100% virgin
merino wool will resist pilling.
Use it for accessories, sweaters
and whatever else your imagination can conjure. You’ll get
260m/100g ball and
19sts/10cm on 3.5-4.5mm knitting needles. And you’ll fall
completely in love with its
amazing colours.
And you should check out
Skacel’s new magalog
(magazine-catalog) feature.
You’ll find a pattern for a crocheted cowl called the Ombre
Crochet Cowl in an easy half
double crochet stitch.
Gradient is Schoppel Wolle’s newest
softest gradually striping yarn!

Rcy kit: Sporty socks for back-to-school
Want to knit a pair of “no wool” socks? We
have a very special yarn for you: CoBaSi.
A combination of Cotton, Bamboo and
Silk makes this yarn a wonderfully soft
knitting yarn. And a generous amount of
elastic makes CoBaSi a great yarn for
socks.
We’ve paired up coordinating colours and
designed a toe-up sock pattern in three
sizes just for you. Our pattern is written for
double pointed needles with a nice closed
cast on and easy heel turn instructions.
If you haven’t knit toe-up socks before,
you’re in for a treat! Cynthia has written a
pattern for RCY that simplifies the process
and will make your fingers (and toes) very
happy!

These handy little spindle type wooden yarn
holders have just arrived in our stores. They’re
hand made in Alberta by a local craftsman,
Nestor, and they’re made from solid woods: oak,
cedar, cherry and walnut. These yarn holders are
perfect for crochet or knitting from balls of yarn
that feed from the outside. The yarn ball slips
down over the pointed centre peg and sits on the
top spindle, rotating around the bottom spindle

feeding your project as you work through it. The
bottom spindle sits squarely on the table, the floor
or wherever you wish to perch it and when you are ready to go, you can fit project, yarn and
holder right into your bag and take it to your next spot.
Your biggest challenge will be to not pull on the yarn, but to let it gently rotate off the holder as
your stitches/chains call for “more yarn please”. We’ve been trying them out this summer and
everyone gives them a big Thumbs Up. Your choice of woods - $35.00 each – buy one for you

Churchmouse Addendums
Our friends, John and Kit, at Churchmouse Yarns and Tea are always
working on new designs as well as reworking their classics.
Recently, they published some updates to
a couple of their best sellers and published
their “Addendums” as free downloads. If
you already have the pattern, you just
download the addendum and away you go!
If you don’t have the original, stop in at
RCY first and we’ll set you up!

Addendum: to adapt your Churchmouse
Classics ‘Koigu® Linen Stitch Scarf’
pattern:
“We’ve scaled up one of our favorite scarf
patterns by substituting a sport-weight
linen yarn and much larger needles. Then
we just kept knitting ’til it reached lavish
proportions. We tried it with
fringe, like the original, but the
strands didn’t behave and it just
wasn’t any fun. So we opted to
work one-row stripes (with
three colors, the next color is
always waiting right where you
need it!) for a glorious tapestry.”

ted up our Picot-Edge Washcloth pattern in Rowan Creative Linen that we could get three
smaller plain-edged cloths out of one skein, or a pair of bigger ones with picot edges. Our downloadable Addendum will
give you the details for both possibilities.”
