COPTHORNE WEST –
In January the CVA successfully put pressure on MSDC to defer a decision on the sale of a Council
owned area of ancient woodland to St Modwen. No decision notice has yet been issued by Mid Sussex
District Council. This could take some months because of the complexity of the section 106 requirements.
Any such land sale decisons by MSDC until then would, therefore, be premature.
We have continued to work with the National Planning Casework Unit (a government department which
reviews contentious planning applications) following our application to them in December to request the
Secretary of State to intervene in the application. Disappointingly, as we go to press, we have been
informed the Secretary of State will not intervene. However, with significant new evidence of air pollution
issues having been published since that decision, the NPCU has asked for the evidence to be sent to
them and the position may be reconsidered. As and when further news is available the CVA will update
members and will continue to attempt to secure the best possible outcome for the village.

GATWICK AIRSPACE CHANGES Increased noise from the airspace changes have been affecting some of our members for the last few years with
the new flight path trials of 2014 being the last straw! Complaints received by Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) last
year were at record highs. Procedures for flight path changes are very complicated, involving multiple agencies
and decisions on routes, navigation patterns and night flights. Some changed routes specifically affect Copthorne.
Some have already had public consultations, but more are due, so please look out for when your actions are
needed.
We have attended the Campaign against Gatwick Noise (CAGNE) AGM, the GACC (Gatwick's Big Enough) Flight
Path seminar and the GAL Airspace Change seminar and will continue to attend as many meetings as possible to
help us stay up to date and, most importantly, keep Copthorne “on the map” and in every decision-makers' mind.
We are very pleased to see that Worth Parish council is one of the 17 parish councils comprising the High Weald
Councils Aviation Action Group, http://hwcaag.org campaigning against increased aircraft noise and pollution
over rural Sussex.
Complaints re aircraft noise should be sent to [email protected] copying both
[email protected] and [email protected] . The latter is new,
specific to Copthorne and the surrounding area so we can build our own statistics.
