EASTER BASKET COLLECTION
The Social Action Committee would like to thank all those
parishioners who gave to the Easter Food Collection last
weekend. Your generosity will enable many families to enjoy
a Happy Easter. God Bless you all and have a wonderful
Easter!
OPERATION RICE BOWL
If you forgot to return your Rice Bowl this weekend, please
do so as soon as possible. A special collection bin is located
by the side altar.
SPECIAL EASTER COLLECTION
The Special Easter Collection will be the second collection
taken up at all the Masses today. This collection will help
defray extraordinary expenses incurred during the winter
months. This is a good opportunity for those who are not
regular church goers to support Corpus Christi Church. Even
if you are not here every Sunday, your parish is there for you

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Our tradition has a way of honoring age-old customs, and is
patient with how practices unfold in different places. The name
of today’s feast illustrates this well. English is a Germanic
language, and our word “Easter,” or German “Oester,” points
back to the pagan goddess Eoestre, the star of the vernal
equinox feast. The Greek title “Pasch” reaches back in a more
helpful manner to the Hebrew “Pesach,” or “Passover.”
“Paschal Triduum” may be slow to replace “Easter” in our
vocabulary, but it is clearer about the mystery we celebrate
today, the culmination of three days laden with mystery and
meaning.
You can hear the older term, and the resistance to English
influence, in the Irish “Casca” and Scottish “Pask.” Romance
languages stay close to the deep paschal tradition, with the
French “Pâques,” Spanish “Pascua” and Italian “Pasqua.”
Memories of our pagan past with “Oester” will not soon fade
away: even Japanese Christians are under her spell, for today’s
feast is called “ I-suta.” Swahili, a young language, takes the
more traditional route with “Pasaka.” Each language yields a
rich insight into the feast. Spanish includes a sense that today
is a “big Sunday” by adding the designation “Pascua” to the
greatest feasts, such as “Pascua de la Natividad” (Christmas).
Once Christ is risen, every step of life’s journey is illuminated
by the light of the Pasch!

answers in this presentation which was made to the Catholic
Business and Ethics Conference.
SHELTER MEAL
Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with the shelter
meals at Immaculate Conception this season. It made my job
very easy. Every meal was a success and a great experience.

MONTHLY SANDWICH COLLECTION
The Immaculate Conception Shelter in Hartford has an
outreach program where they take food to homeless people
who do not find a place at a shelter. They may be living in a
car or under a bridge. The need is great, but thanks to
contributions from volunteer “sandwich makers,” Immaculate
can provide help and comfort to these people. Making
sandwiches is also a good way to involve younger family
members in this ministry.
Recipe:
• Any type of bread can be used.
• Two (2) slices of meat (such as ham, bologna, salami) & a
slice of cheese per sandwich.
• About one pound of meat is needed for a loaf of bread.
You can vary the ingredients if you don’t have enough of
one kind to finish the loaf.
• Please do not put condiments or butter on the bread.
• Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are also very popular.
• Sandwiches are individually wrapped, put back in the
bread wrapper, twist-tied, and placed in the box in the
church foyer.
Collections are usually the first full weekend of the month.
Because Easter falls on the first full weekend in
April, this month’s sandwich collection will take
place next weekend, April 11/12.
CORPUS CHRISTI SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
Do you ever wonder if a Catholic School could be the right fit
for your child? We will host a special Spring Open House on
Wednesday, April 15th at 8:30 AM at the school for
prospective students and their families. Corpus Christi School,
a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, offers an

“TASTE of the WORLD”
On Friday, April 24, ImmaCare Inc. (formerly Immaculate
Conception Shelter and Housing Corporation) will be hosting
our 3rd Annual “Taste of the World - An International Food,
Wine & Beer Tasting” to support the services and programs
ImmaCare has provided to Hartford’s Homeless since 1981.
Crane W. Cesario, MBA, Director of Housing and Homeless
Resources Capitol Region, MHC, DMHAS will accept The
Partnership Award, and Paul Nanos of CBS Sports Radio will
be the Special Guest Emcee. The evening will feature
international cuisine from Poland, Thailand, Jamaica, Italy and
more. Thomas Hooker Brewery and Back East Brewing
Company will supply beer, and Harvest Fine Wine will
provide wines. The evening will also include an eclectic
selection of music and a silent auction. Taste of the World will
be held at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield from 6:309:30 PM. The suggested cost for tickets is $100 per person and
the minimum ticket price is $85 each. All proceeds will help
ImmaCare better serve the homeless population of Hartford.

KNIGHTS HOST PASTA DINNER
The Knights of Columbus is holding its annual Pasta Dinner in
Father Crawford Hall at the Church of the Incarnation, 544
Prospect Street in Wethersfield, on Saturday, April 25 after
the 5 PM Mass. Our menu includes the following: ziti,
meatballs, sausage, salad & dessert. After dinner, Sal Basile
will entertain our guests with traditional Italian music.
The cost of the dinner is $10.00 per adult, $25.00 per family

payable to the Knights of Columbus and sent to 161 Brimfield
