I'd like to start by thanking all the active members who helped make March such a huge success with rides and events. We had several great activities that brought everyone together this past month: the Wildwood ride, Day at the Races, Doc Larsen & Bert Bonnet Memorial Chili ride and Pioneertown! We've seen an increase in new membership and rider turnout. As a result, we'd also ask that people begin to take a more active role at events and rides and sign up to be trail boss, outrider, drag rider or even cook. Please contact me if you'd like to get active and join the fun! In April, we have a very fun ride planned at Vasquez Rocks, which has now been named the Vasquez Rocks/John Richardson Memorial Ride. This will be immediately followed by lunch at Maria Bonita's. A memorial celebration for our beloved John Richardson will also be held on April 18th Memberships that expire in April: Terry Andersen, Gordon Dibble, David Hyman, Mile and Romelle Kemp, Bill and Christina Pollard, Jerry and Julie Onstott and Max and Joyce Schetter April 2015 Page 3 WHAT’S NEW IN 22 News: Jeanne Hill has a new horse, Chili. Guests enjoyed valet parking and a free racing program plus entrance to the club house. There was a lovely buffet on the terrace level and everyone enjoyed live horse racing and great events in the infield. The 7th race was listed as sponsored by Corral 22 so we got our name in the program and Kat Ungamrung and Billie McGuire got to have their picture taken in the winner’s circle! Thanks SO much to Kathleen Ungamrung for organizing such a great event. To those who missed it, please try to join in the fun next year. April 2015 Page 6 Horsing around 2015 Day at the Races April 2015 Page 7 Horsing around 2015 Doc Larsen/Bert Bonnett Ride Despite warnings of record heat, the day turned out cool and comfortable for the riders who gathered in Lakeview Terrace to honor Doc Larsen and Bert Bonet. Tiffany Bailey lead the way on her trusty Fjord, Frodo, who did an excellent job, especially for his first time as leader! Tiffany took us through green, shady trails lined with wonderful patches of wild flowers in the lower foothills, looping back down to Hansen Dam where the horses had ample opportunity to cool off and drink at the dozen or so water crossings. After a few hours of fun riding, we returned to Veteran's park where the wonderful cook crew had our feast prepared. Everyone had a great time eating chili and cornbread and sharing good company-and cookies. Special thanks to the San Fernando Rangers for hosting us on this ride and allowing us to use their facilities! Three horses and 3... mules worked their way over many stream crossings and up the "Big Pull" mountain, then down through cool, tree covered trails to the waterfall area then stopped at a picnic area for the lunch break. Tammy and Mike Gillett and Dora Goldman (Corral 14) drove all the way from Pearl Blossom, bringing a new horse and 2 mules. Sydney Najduch (Corral 777) trailered in from Pasadena and rode her big horse, "Chunky", who helped lead the way through several tricky areas. The only downside was we got parking tickets for not paying the $2.00 fee. Not one of us saw the sign requiring fees, so none of us paid. The officer cited all 3 trailers for $30 each. So very sorry to our guests for this incident-no one had ever needed to pay before. Thanks to everyone for participating in a fun ride!!!
