Production Admin Intern
The Production Department seeks a highly motivated, inquisitive, self-starter with a positive attitude looking to learn what goes into
producing one of the most prominent dance companies in the world. We are looking for a college student who is able to work 25-30 hours a
week.
Responsibilities for the Production Admin Intern include but are not limited to:
•
Research music information, including publisher and record label contacts for songs used in AAADT and Ailey II repertoire
•
Use Excel to monitor progress of newly produced and future ballets
•
Review performance history and create related royalty statements for artists and designers
•
Support Ticket Manager with ticket pick up and distribution for AAADT’s Lincoln Center Season
•
Help in creating financial reports, including spending history and budget tracking for both AAADT and Ailey II
•
Possible opportunity to work with Stage Management team
•
Assist with basic office administrative tasks
•
Errand running as necessary
Candidates for this production admin internship should be familiar with basic computer hardware and software such as Microsoft Office
Suite, and specifically Excel (or have the ability to learn quickly). Intern applicants should have excellent writing and communication skills,
including a pleasant phone manner. Students of any major welcome to apply!

General Marketing Intern
The Marketing Department seeks two detailed oriented, high-energy interns to assist us with general marketing related projects. We are
looking for a college student who is able to work 2 - 3 days a week.
Responsibilities for the General Marketing Intern include but are not limited to:
•
Work with various marketing team members for Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation’s many programs including but not limited to Alvin
Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, The Ailey School, Ailey Arts-in-Education and Community Programs, and Ailey Extension
•
Assist with program layout, review, and copy editing
•
Generate reports and assist with interviews and content for social media purposes
•
Update web & e-blast content
•
Assist with basic office administrative tasks
•
Candidates should be familiar with basic computer hardware and software including Excel, Photoshop, InDesign, Final Cut Pro,
HTML (or the ability to learn editing programs quickly).
•
Generate sales reports
•
Assist with day-to-day office tasks
•
Intern applicants should have excellent writing and copy editing skills. Candidates should also be comfortable with patron
engagement, a multi-tasker, highly motivated, and thrive in a high-energy, professional work environment. Some marketing/sales
experience and knowledge of dance is a plus.
 Development: Individual Giving & Patron Relations Interns
The Development department’s Patron Relations team seeks two part time college interns available 2 - 3 days a week.
Responsibilities for the Individual Giving & Patron Relations Intern are as follows:
•
Research donors and prospects and create associated reports
•
Ongoing membership renewal and gift acknowledgment process
•
Update and maintain constituent records in the donor database
• Preparation and execution of long term-mail projects
•
General office and day-to-day tasks
•
Candidate should be comfortable with patron engagement, have an excellent attitude and demeanor on the phone and in-person,
thorough knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, especially Excel, be able to multi-task, and should thrive in a high-energy,
professional work environment. Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other database and donor management software is also a plus.
 Public Relations – PR Intern
The Public Relations department is looking for two General Public Relations Interns.
Responsibilities for the Public Relations intern include but not limited to:
• Work with database of media contacts, writing and editing press releases, creating press materials and press kits, maintaining
press coverage of the organization, and researching media outlets for potential coverage opportunities
• Compile weekly press clippings
• Regularly update Online press room with photos, press coverage, and press releases
• Provide general administrative support
• Event staffing when appropriate, i.e. Ailey’s June Lincoln Center Season
• Knowledge of and interest in photo/video editing graphics (Photoshop, video editing programs) is a plus
Candidates for this internship must have an interest in Public Relations/Communications or Arts Administration and a prior knowledge or
experience in these areas. Applicants should also have interest and/or experience in the Performing Arts or Dance industries; strong
organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment; strong written and verbal communication skills. Rising
college juniors, seniors or recent college graduates only.

The Ailey School Jr. Division Intern
The Jr. Division of The Ailey School is looking for an intern to possess the following skills:
Professional writing, speaking and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task
Excellent attitude and demeanor with ability to speak to prospective and current parents on the phone and in person
A working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and experience working with a computer database, preferably BlackBaud is a
plus.
Responsibilities for the Jr. Division include but are not limited to:
Packaging re-enrollment materials
Record and process returned re-enrollment forms
Photocopy and file original student evaluations
Collate and match up student evaluations
Prepare mailings of Pre-professional & First Steps inquiries
Assist with follow up calls/mailings to students attending summer program who are missing paperwork
Assist with major events (i.e. new student auditions, student/parent orientations, placement classes) often outside of traditional
business hours
 Ailey Extension – Extension Intern
The Ailey Extension which provides “real classes for real people” is a customer oriented Program on an administrative level that interacts
with hundreds of clients monthly. The Ailey Extension team is looking for an intern with at least 2 years of customer service experience.
Responsibilities for the Ailey Extension Intern include but not limited to:
•
Assist in class scheduling, payment processing, and greeting groups that visit our studios
•
Provide general administrative support
•
Assist staff in excellent customer service through use of our MindBody system
•
Assist with special workshops and events
Candidate should: be comfortable with client and group engagement, have an excellent attitude and demeanor on the phones and in-person,
have thorough knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, be a multi-tasker, flexible and should thrive in a fast paced and professional work
environment. Basic accounting and reporting skills are needed to assure appropriate accounting and reporting for our workshops and Kids
and Teens programs. Knowledge of Excel, Sales, and/or dance is a plus.
 AileyCamp Intern
AileyCamp offers two fun-filled six-week summer day camps (beginning early July and ending in mid-August - AileyCamp New York and
AileyCamp Newark) where young people ages 11-14 learn to dance and explore their creativity. The program helps youth develop their selfconfidence in an atmosphere of warmth, respect and trust. Campers take dance classes from experienced teaching artists in popular styles
such as West African, jazz, ballet, and the Lester Horton technique (which is the basis of many of Alvin Ailey’s works). Campers also
participate in workshops to build leadership and communication skills and enjoy a variety of athletic and social activities.
The AileyCamp is looking for dedicated, hands-on interns who want to make a difference in a child’s life while learning the administrative
responsibilities of running a summer day camp. The internship runs through the summer and will require 28-35 hours per week/Monday –
Friday (4-5 days). All interns are required to attend a 3-day orientation prior to the start of AileyCamp.
Responsibilities include for the AileyCamp Intern include:
•
Office and day-to-day tasks related to AileyCamp including collect daily attendance
•
Manage AileyCamp phone lines including taking messages and returning calls.
•
Assist campers with class content, dance skills, choreography and activities as needed in classes
•
Attend all camp classes and activities with an assigned group (at least 3 days) Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. –
3:30 p.m.
•
Participate in lunch duty, free periods, field trip days and general supervision of campers
•
Document AileyCamp with viedo and photography
•
Assist faculty members as needed in the creation of the end-of-camp performance i.e. participate in rehearsals, preparation and
day-of-final performance activities.
Group Leader Responsibilities include:
•
Attend all daily classes and activities with assigned group, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
•
Assist campers with class content, dance skills, choreography and activities as needed in classes.
•
Assist dance instructors or facilitators with classroom management.
•
Monitor camper’s behavior and act as a liaison between campers and faculty members, AileyCamp Director, and other
AileyCamp staff.
•
Report individual campers’ counseling needs to the Guidance Counselor.
•
Assist faculty members as needed in the creation of the end-of-camp performance materials.
•
Participate in lunch duty, free periods and general supervision of the AileyCampers when not in classes or meetings.
•
Participate in all rehearsal, preparation and final performance activities as needed to support the artistic staff.
•
Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings (3:30 - 4:30 p.m.) and individual meetings with the AileyCamp Director.
•
Dress in the AileyCamp staff uniform and in a neat and clean manner insuring clothing and/or costumes do not contain
inappropriate references for children (alcohol, drugs, profanity, etc.).
•
Voluntarily participate in the background checks required for employment including but not limited to federal and sex
offender checks, finger printing, and courses required for certification.
 Studio & Theater Operations
Responsibilities for the Studio & Theater Operations Intern include but not limited to:
Assist with show calls if the schedule permits and work as a theater stage hand/deck hand work available for performances.

Change color/templates in booms between pieces
•
Moving set pieces/soft goods.
•
Assisting Lighting Designer with cutting color/focusing units /hanging units, etc.
Departmental Operations:
•
Shadowing light board operator / learning Ion console and basic programing. VL (moving lights) programing.
•
Follow spot operator from front of house. Bench focusing units.
•
Shadowing sound board operator / learning Q lab programming and basic mixing and mic placement strategies.
•
On Stage Mic placement and patching musicians. Monitor levels, etc.
•
Shadowing stage manager to learn how to call a show / manage dancers backstage / check-in, etc.
Basic Theater Maintenance.
•
Re-taping marley floor.
•
Maintaining lighting and sound equipment.
•
Sweeping and Moping stage floor.
•
Cleaning theater storage and front of house / tech booth storage area, etc.
•
Maintaining dressing rooms and green room area.
•
Possible work with school shows in LLC. (These productions tend to have lots of additional set up and strike duties)

HR/IT Intern:
The HR & IT departments are looking for an intern with Adobe/Acrobat/Photoshop software experience to create company-wide forms
aimed at improving workflow efficiencies. Interest in HR and/or IT is encouraged.
Responsibilities for the HR/Intern include but are not limited to:

Please know we are not able to offer a stipend, housing, or any other type of compensation. However, interns receive free Ailey Extension
dance and fitness classes. We also work with schools for interns interested in receiving academic credit.
