summer camp letter 2015 new

Dear DAS Summer Camp Family,
We are very excited to welcome you to a summer full of fun with us! The staff members have been busy
planning activities and enrichments around each weekly theme, and we are doing our best to see that your child
has an enjoyable experience. Here is some information that you might find helpful. Please let us know if you
have other questions.
We will be using the cafeteria – and the playground and gym – of Duniway Elementary School. Please enter the
building through the cafeteria doors off Rex Street. There will be a large sign that says “Summer Camp”.
Children must be signed in and out each day. The sign-in sheet will typically be in the cafeteria with one of our
staff. Because there are some new families, we need to be extra cautious about security at pickup time. If the
check-out teacher does not know you, he or she will ask for identification. Please make certain that we have a
list of anyone who is authorized to remove your child from our care. Children will not be released to anyone
who is not authorized, or does not have identification.
What to Bring:
 Your paperwork! On our website (daschildcare.org under “forms”, then “summer camp”) are the forms
that we need in order to provide care for your child. You can also stop by and pick up hard copies.
Please be certain that we have current copies of each form on file before you leave on that first day.
 Lunch for your child. We will provide snacks in the morning and the afternoon.
 Water bottle: Please bring a personal, labeled water bottle each morning so that your child has fresh
water available throughout the day, especially outdoors.
 Extra clothing and water shoes (essential for sprinkler play, chilly days, and those unavoidable
accidents).
Please note: Flip-flop type sandals are not safe for active play. Please send your child in shoes with a back,
to support their feet as they run and jump.
Sunscreen Changes: Sunscreen will be supplied this year! Please apply sunscreen in the morning before your
arrival and then we will do it again in the afternoon with Banana Boat Broad Spectrum 50+ SPF. There is a
permission slip for sunscreen, which we can apply, or you can authorize your child to apply it. If you have
special sunscreen you would rather your child use, feel free to bring it.
Billing: We will be billing for summer camps by the week. You will receive your invoice during the week prior.
Your payment is due by Monday morning of the camp week. Of course if you want to pay ahead for several
weeks at a time, you are welcome to do so.
Our Heat Policy: Since our classrooms are not air-conditioned, and the summer heat can sometimes become
oppressive, we need to reserve the ability to close the program under the guidelines established by Portland
Public Schools. The general guideline is that when temps over 100 degrees are predicted, an Inclement Weather
Team will make the determination on whether or not we can remain open.
We are looking forward to enjoying the summer with you!
Sincerely,
The Staff of DAS
