With the end of the school year approaching quickly, May will also be a very

Head Start Parents: Watch Those Backpacks for Important Updates
Our Head Start children are exploring how living things grow, using observations,
experiments, and books. Through story time readings, children hear about ducks who find a
special home, a new baby on a farm, a boy who grows from babyhood to school age, and a girl
who discovers the joys of growing vegetables. We will continue to learn about letters, sounds,
and rhyming words.
We are in the process of completing our second home visit and looking forward to discussing
your child's progress with you. Please remember to check book bags each day and be on the lookout for notices
of upcoming events. We truly enjoyed the time spent with our Head Start children and appreciated your support
throughout the year.

As we roll into May, Kindergarten students are wrapping up a great year! The children are
preparing for our End of the Year Awards Ceremony, which will be on Friday, May 22nd at
8:30 am in your child's classroom. We hope you can all attend. Keep working on homework
every night to get your child ready for first grade!
First Grade Studied Animal Habitats in April
Our Fabulous First Graders have been extremely busy! We have completed our
End-of-the Year Rigby Reading Assessments. Our little Mustangs have finished
their wonderful Animal Habitat Projects and enjoyed our field trip to The
Museum of Discovery and Science. We have scheduled our First Grade Awards
Day for Wednesday May 27, 2015 at 8:15 am in your child's classroom. Stay
tuned for more information on this special event. As always, thank you for
checking your child's backpack every day for important papers, read to and with
your child each evening, and assist your child in becoming a successful Fabulous
First Grader!
Second Graders Prepare For Move To Third Grade
Second graders are completing our final field trip on May1st. Whew, we've had a very
active and exciting year! We are still practicing measuring, counting, and adding
money everyday to prepare for third grade. Continue to read with your child each day,
and be sure he/she knows those addition and subtraction facts to twenty really well.
Quiz your children while doing the dishes, riding in the car, helping fold laundry; any
"snippets" of time will do. Those little moments of practice can really make a big
difference. Our End of the Year Awards will be in our classrooms on Tuesday, June 2nd
at 8:30 a.m.. More information to follow.
Third Graders Plan a Trip to IMax
Congratulations to our Third Grade students for Doing Their Best on the Test!
Thank you to all the families for the support and encouragement you gave your child
during the FSA! We have our field trip to the IMAX on May 7th to look forward to.
The FSA isn't the end! Please continue to memorize multiplication facts until you
have mastered them. Keep reading daily and practice all skills in preparation for
fourth grade.
Great Tips for Fourth Grade
Summer Activities
Summer vacation can be either a learning wasteland or a learning
paradise. The temptations are great for children to spend hours
watching television or playing video games, but with a little
ingenuity and planning, the summer can be transformed into a time
to stretch the mind, explore new hobbies, learn about responsibility
and build on skills learned during the school year.
10 Fun Summer Learning Activities
Here are some activities to get your child started on a summer of learning fun:
1. Grow the biggest zucchini in your neighborhood.
What better way to learn the basics of science and how things grow than to plant your own garden? You can
start with seeds or small plants.
2. Clip, paste and write about your family adventures.
A family vacation is a perfect opportunity to create a trip scrapbook that will be a lasting souvenir of family
adventures.
3. Get theatrical.
Young children can make their own puppet theater.
4. Make chocolate mousse or build a bird feeder.
Toy stores and craft shops are full of kits for making things, from bird feeders to model airplanes to mosaic
tableaux.
5. Paint the picket fence, baby-sit or volunteer at a soup kitchen.
Even young children can learn to be responsible by helping to set the table, take care of a pet, clean out a closet,
wash the car or paint the picket fence.
6. Become the family's junior travel agent.
Half the fun of a trip starts before you get there. Involve your child in the planning by practicing how to use a
map to find cities and tourist attractions, and how to estimate distances.
7. Visit a jelly bean factory or a glassblowing studio.
Whether you are going on a trip far away or staying close to home, seek out places where children can learn
how things are made.
8. Turn a museum trip into a treasure hunt.
Get your children excited about visiting a museum by exploring the museum's Web site and taking a virtual
tour.
9. Get stickers, tattoos and comics for free.
Composing a letter helps build writing skills and can be especially rewarding when your child gets a reply in the
form of a cool free item.
10. Become an investment guru or a math wizard.
Summer is the perfect time for older children and teens to learn about the stock market and the value of
investing..
Lots of End of the Year Activities Planned for Fifth Graders
Our fifth grade students have had quite a year so far. We've worked and
studied hard and soon it will be time to enjoy our end-of-the-year
activities. Please remind your child that all special events need to be
earned through good school conduct, staying on task and learning each
and every day. We had a great experience this year to be
involved in the D5 program. The students have learned about all of the
programs on the computer such as Schoololgy, Powerpoint, and Word.
Thank you to all of our wonderful students and parents for their support
when caring for the computers at home.
Fifth Grade teachers are planning a Fifth Grade Fun Week as a reward for
students with good behavior and work habits. Students will be required to
behave properly and complete all assigned work in order to participate in
these activities.
The students are looking forward to field trips and fun closing activities
such as The Annual Fifth Grade Barbecue and Game Day. Each student
will have the words FIFTH GRADE END OF THE YEAR EVENTS as part of the tally book in the
classroom. If a student does not follow a requirement listed below, a letter will be crossed out. Each group of
letters stands for a different activity. Students must have one letter left in each group in order to participate in
that activity. The Fifth Grade teachers have set forth the following guidelines that each student must follow:
1. No Homework/ incomplete class work – lose one letter
2. Off Task – lose one letter
3. Misbehaving – lose one letter
4. Clip Pulled at lunch – lose one letter
5. Parent Note Not Returned – Lose one letter
6. Discipline Referral – Lose next activity
